I believe he should be part of the midfield rotation. I agree he is not quick, but he has an excellent football brain and is very quick to make a decision, usually the correct one. He is a tough hombre as well and can break a few tackles. I would definitely have him on a bench or a HFF. Did kick some great goals this year and I think he has settled in very well.

We can't rely on Harves starting in the guts. Remember how good we were with him coming of the bench in 2004/05? Of course it depends if the other midfielders are fit but I would love to have THE KING come from the pine.

He will want Gram and Schneider to become goal kicking mid-fielders. I have no doubt of that. Charlie Gardiner will be a decoy, but he's fit enough to put defensive pressure on their rebounding defence. Players like Milne, Raph Clarke, Birss, Gwilt and C. Jones will be "on reserve". Raph Clarke might be an exception to that rule if he has a full pre-season and they work him really hard. Armitage and his ilk really need to string 3 good games together in the VFL. They haven't. Dempster may change places with Goddard depending on the matchup. He'll persist with Fiora changing on the left with Schneider, both are good kicks. Blake will come off the bench as a second ruck if someone gets injured.

Remember that Baker will miss the first 5 or 6 weeks so a player like Birss might be up for some game time in those weeks (there are a few players vieing for that spot, Howard and Armitage come immediately to mind)

just a questin 4 saint fans. y dont many if not any of you have birss in your side, i followed his progress 4 u guys seeing as though he was an ex doggy and thought he did well in the 2nd half of the season average about 15 touches a game and bobbing up 4 the occasional goal

So with you on that. I think he's been unfairly restricted in people's minds to a crumber, but that's not when he's at his best. He's actually good at leading for a mark, especially for a little bloke, is getting at least 2 assists for goals in most games. 30-odd for the year is a nice amount, especially given how dry it was in the Saints' forward line during the first half of 2007.

When did i ever say i supported tarrant and farmer? You have to be kidding Milne as a lead up forward.. ha.. Anyone could contribute 2 goal assists a game thats what he is paid to do, but too often he is shut down! I have from good authority that his name was thrown around in trade week again, but surprise surprise no takers.. Only wish we traded him to Essendon when we had the chance.. A Steve Johnson type would be good for us should have grabed last year..

Key things i'd like to see,

We still have depth issues so it's important pick 9 and Gilbert continue to be developed.
Kosi hopefully has an open forward 50 to work with.
Blake starts in our best 22 down back and swap with King when he needs a rest
Fisher is used to take opposition number 2 tall
Maguire who in turn is used as a running half back
Gilbert to take number 3 tall
Hudghton to ALWAYS take best forward

Criticism is sure to come thick & fast but:
Ross Lyon champion - fixed Raph Clarke and will make an impact this year
Got some ruckman so Kosi after hes most injury free year can be close to goal and doing some of them Wayne Carey crash pack like marks.
Ball is only in the pocket due to Osteitis Pubis(apart from that Hawthorn game I cry after knowing how good he was in 2005)
Shnieder & Dempster must be walk up starts as Ross Lyon is trying to apply that Sydney game style.
Also think Gardiner will still suprise as Ross has done the right thing buy him 2 as he did Raph Clarke.
Montagna to become a genuine Superstar & Hayes to be like he was at the end of this year and September will be there.

BJ maybe start forward till round 11-12 ish Good Luck to BJ & Attard through the year

I think the best Key defensive setup provided everyone is up and running is Same Fisher and Goose and FB/CHB with Max taking the small forward with the thrid tall defender - take your pick - Goddard, Gilbert, R. Clarke, Gram, Dempster etc
