More specifically where is your source of information coming from? I don’t know where you get your stats, but AFL has always been superior to league in ratings on five city metro average, which includes Sydney and Brisbane. Take a look at the last four years top twenty, NRL State of Origin is not there!!

On ten news they said that there were still a few thousand tickets left and they'd be available to the public from tomorrow. So much for tickets selling for $500 on ebay and people camping out for days.

The stats I provided have come form the official report on the NRL 2005. I didn't just make those figures up. Do you dispute them? You can find a smaller summary here

I would have thought you'd learnt your lesson about your assumptions.

AFL tickets are released in stages, to give various groups earlier access. (ie fully financial members first). The Swans cap members at less than the SCG capacity, so they will always have a few thousand avaliable for general public throughout the year. So even if every member wanted tickets, there would be some still left by the time they became open to the public (yesterday lunch time).
RL release Finals tickets in stages also, first to season ticket holders, stadium members, then the general public... each stage being on a different day and tickets going on sale at 9am.

as i said the "reasonable assumption" was 9am.

Two Sydney clubs Sydney Roosters v Canterbury Bulldogs drew a massive 8,000 people to their game at Aussie Stadium recently.

Imagine the uproar if two Vic Clubs got 8,000 to a game at the similar sized Docklands!!
it was a last round nothing game with both teams out of finals contention.

This code has already sold over 10,000 tickets to the challenge cup final at Wembley stadium one year from now... and in the UK it has gone from 32,175 players in 2002 to 126,064 players in 2005. Says a lot about the RL code doesn't it?

How is your "code" going in the UK? says a lot about that code doesn't it?

You may be involving more people in England but what about Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia and Northern Territory. Your game has jach ******** support. Compare your pathetic numbers in England to the followers of soccer.

What!!???

RL is achieving record crowds, record tv ratings, record junior participation... there isnt alot more you can do than constantly break average crowd records, achieve more sellouts than ever, achieve stunning rep footy crowds, achieve 10%+ growth in junior participation each season in recent times, expand the competition, secure a record broadcast deal that dwarfs previous deals, record investment into non-heartland victoria ....

*stop the fight*

need i go on??

it goes very well in the NT thanks very much... and TAS VIC SA WA represent just 'under' 50% of the country.

Your game has jach ******** support.
really...

Compare your pathetic numbers in England to the followers of soccer.
what would be the point of that?

Which does tend to back up the theory that rugby league 'supporters' go for the event rather than to support their club and/or the game.

Seriously, 4,000 diehard supporters per club is abominable. You can hardly blame the venue either (as you tend to do ;) )

Yeah, i agree the crowd was pretty pathetic, but in the bigger picture, does it really mean/prove anything??

27,000 turned up to watch the same two teams play each other in April. That doesn't really mean/prove anything either...

So what if Rugby League has this year drawn record crowds, TV ratings, sponsorship, junior participation rates etc

The FACT is Rugby League is so far behind the AFL in all key statistical data it will take it another 15 years of records just to draw close.

And even that timeframe is being generous considering the inroads AFL has made in Queensland & NSW compared to Rugby Leagues abandonment of having a national comp including WA & SA.

DST
:D

If you actually lived in the UK, you would find out how much league is so far behind most other sports there. Last year over a million poms paid a 20 quid skysports fee to watch the darts final between two fat blokes. :D

You might have a chat about league with someone if you're up north, but anywhere else they wouldn't know what the hell you're going on about.

Rugby League is going to be pushed aside by Union which is a much more attractive game. Now that Union has gone professional League is living on borrowed time.

Don't bother with these RL buffoons. For some unknown reason they have a problem with Geography and believe that QLD & NSW equal Australia and therefore a "National" game....oh yeah and there's that team down south that may as well be called the Melbourne Showers with all the support they get. Maybe the Melbourne Drizzle.

End of the day the game will sell out at the SCG and if it had the opportunity it would have sold out Telstra as more people from the western suburbs would have attended.

Getting in and out of the SCG is an absolute nightmare at the best of times let alone on a Friday night!!!!!!

PS You can have England and wherever else you like. The fact is that the league is highly made up of players from Aust and NZ who are passed their prime and out to make a buck....and yes I know there are exceptions (Jamie Lyon for example).

The last word both games WILL be sold out!

I wonder how ticket sales are going for the Wests Tigers NRL final. As of 5pm yesterday only 15,000 had been sold. Don't forget the cheapest ticket to the NRL finals is $8.

Yet it's cheaper to get into an AFL home-and-away match than an NRL one.

The cheapest ticket for this Friday night's Sydney AFL final is 16.80 (in Adelaide it's 15 bucks), while the cheapest league ticket at telstra stadium for week one of the finals is 8 bucks as has been mentioned. The cheapest tickets for the other league finals this weekend are 14 bucks. Not too far different from the AFL.

How sad that once you Rugger boys are beaten on statistical analysis, you stick around on BF resorting to personal insult.

Now P1ss off and don't come back until this weekends crowd results are in for both codes.

Then you can come back and we will kick your arse again.

You can't win rugger buggers and you know it and that is why you are compelled to keep coming back to bigfooty.

Why don't you all convert? It will be better for you in the long run.

I'm sorry, wasnt League invented in England? So why is there pride in a small amount of growth over there? Especially when those numbers are dwarfed so severely by Football. Wow, a whole 120,000 in a population of 60,441,457.. well now thats alomst 0.2%... keep up the good form!!

England invented a lot of sports including union, soccer and cricket. They can't all be number one.
