I've had enough of all of these kents already.

Nothing would satisfy me more right now than drafting H.Reid and watch him kick a bag against the tin-rattlers.

And anyone else wanting to entertain splitting the pick in this massively compromised draft needs to give themselves an uppercut as well.

I think this offseason has truly brought to light just how ruthless the media in Vic have been over the past few years and we have sort of fallen for it hook line and sinker. Been way too conservative going only WA players over the past 5-6 years. They know that since the Kelly trade it's been brought to attention just how much they will interfere to try and stop us drafting quality Vic players. It's becoming very desprete and aggressive. Draft tampering just about. It's time we put an end to that.

Our recruiting should never be influenced by media. I hope we grow a backbone and realise what's happening right now and draft Reid. And it's not out of spite even though media behaviour over there is disgraceful. It's because it's the right thing to do. His the best in the draft and just so happens to play in a position that we despretely need. It's a no brainer of a decision. Should always go best player.

Are all Victorians drafted since the Kelly trade

The Hawks board seem convinced we'd be happy with 3+DGB+Brockman, and even think throwing in their future 1st is too much. I am reluctant to post there obviously to challenge that but it seems puzzling that they think a currently fringe defender and an out of contract fringe small forward will get the deal over the line. What are they smoking?

Don't think many realise that throwing in two spuds (yes DGB and Brockman may come good but they are struggling to get games in a bottom 4 side at the moment) doesn't make it any better, at the cost of sliding back from 1 to 3 and obviously downgrading from Reid to someone else.

When you consider the hullabaloo (in the media) when we beat the Bulldogs because we’d given up either Reid or the draft bonanza we could cash in on by trading pick 1……

That draft bonanza of picks 2 and 16 from North or pick 3 and two fringe players from Hawthorn are decidedly anemic

GWS gave up picks 3,12 and a F2 (Collingwood) for pick 1 last year in a totally different draft grouping where the club holding pick 1 (North) knew they were going to be able to get the player at 2 they’d have taken with 1

It’s absurd

All of them within the last year. I think last season we woke up a bit to it. Before then we were very conservative compare to other clubs. There's a stat across the league of amount of players and how many per state each team has. But it's about time we woke up to it. Ignored the media playing the go home factor and go for best players regardless. Obviously we get more WA talent coming through but not picking the best players just because of media spin pressure is bullshit. They know we've been the most scared of it in our drafting and probably explains why they are doing it hard for Reid right now.

Journo saying “I think they should do this” becomes “They are going to do this”
Superficial article with a shallow analysis.

Again misreads and misinterprets Fitzpatrick’s admittedly awkwardly worded statement.

But plural players are connected to plural picks. Why aren’t these people challenged on this point?

If we made a few tiers of players in the draft, where would McKercher & Curtin fall?

And how many in the 3rd tier?

Feel free to pick below apart... there will plenty who know more than I do!
(Just an exercise to generate a bit of a discussion)

Top tier:
H.Reid, Walter*, McKercher
Next tier: Curtin, Duursma, Caddy, Read*, Watson, Sanders
Third tier: big bunch of players (how many?)
O'Sullivan, Rogers*, Croft+, Wilson, Murphy, Stevens, Hardeman, McCabe+, Edwards, Cleary*, Schoenmaker, A.Reid, Philactides, Tholstrup, Patton, Morris, Moir, Collard?

The media would still be pushing as a 50-50 chance of a pick split.
Can see the headline now: “Reid attends WCE B&F and handed the number 9 jersey by Nic Nat. Clear indication Adelaide now favourites to secure Reid by trading their #9 pick and Matt Crouch to West Coast”

Surely 19 would also go Adelaide's way as compo for missing the finals due to the goal umpire error.

The only suitable package for Pick 1 is one where we rip the other team the * off. None of this "that's a fair package" bullshit.

Either we rip them off, or keep Pick 1. Nothing in between will suffice.
I think the pick 2 swap last year has lowered the bar. Bar needs to be raised again or list manager loses job surely

I think last year was a bit different. There wasn't a real standout player like Reid and there were a couple of Vic-based players who did not want to relocate interstate. Made sense to pick split last year.

I'd be the first one down at Min Res Park ready to burn the place to the ground if we accept a 2+16 type deal.

I think he is referring to picks 2, 40, Rioli going out for 8, 13 & future picks (approx) 40 & 55

I.e. us being too nice to let the rest of the Port/NM trade get done.

We got absolutely bent over in terms of currency for Rioli. The way that was handled was shambolic. 2 for 8 and 13 no problem. Rioli trade should have been totally seperate. I believe we initially requested Dan Houston coming back instead. Would have been a good swap in hindsight.

Yeah whilst that pick split has worked out fine, I’m still angry we got so little for Rioli who has proven he is one of the premier smalls in the competition, he just impacts games on such a high level, has made Port so much more dangerous.

I was mad at him when he left, but part of me is excited to watch him this finals campaign. Just sucks how things ended.

Port was willing to walk Rioli to the PSD and he was willing to cooperate

We got what we were able to and have been unfortunate that Port had one of their “on” years
