I've had enough of all of these kents already.

Nothing would satisfy me more right now than drafting H.Reid and watch him kick a bag against the tin-rattlers.

And anyone else wanting to entertain splitting the pick in this massively compromised draft needs to give themselves an uppercut as well.

Can't let this slide.

I'll delete the account of Dark Sharks personally if Marc blinking Murphy ever makes the footy hall of fame.

Mark Bickley is in the AFL hall of fame, they've set the bar very low here so anything is possible.

Its a big call and weird one so do get that people will think that for sure and be passionately against it.

I just really dont rate the guy. So many bits of play I see from him fit into the "He would have been tackled 15 seconds ago at AFL level" or the "At AFL level he isnt doing that" style.

I also fall into the category that even if im wrong and he becomes good, he is 100% going to Tasmania anyway so why bother. He is a bigger flight risk then Reid really
Would have been nice to see him playing against seniors

Hmmm I read that as "I'll go and if I hate it in WA I'll head home"

Hopefully he contributes to a quick bounce back in fortunes.

Actually, it's more like:

"It's better to move when you're younger, because you don't have any commitments/kids/relationships/etc., which prevent people from moving when you're older."

As someone who moved around a lot during my life, it is far easier when you are young.

Harley Reid's fend offs and attempts to break tackles constantly at U18s will see him pinged for holding the ball more often than not at AFL level too.

I still want him.
Maybe initially.
But if Shuey was able to work it out at the top level then Reid is very likely to as well.

Its also not a clear outlier in his play. McKercher overall been relying on breaking through packs to show his worth alot more then Reid whose really showed his worth as a forward this year who can also play midfiel, but then also done this at VFL level too

Yup, remember that prelim against collingwood where shuey got htb twice trying to fend off, within a couple of years he was almost untackleable.

I think you're reading too much into an answer that, at least in the article, doesn't have tone.
He seemed genuinely excited when I was talking to him at the prospect of going to West Coast.
And, like I said, Treacy was telling all the Pioneers how much he had enjoyed the transition to play for Fremantle.

The question of transitioning to the higher level is always the million dollar question with draft prospects.
I think you'd typically expect players like Butters, Gulden and Serong to struggle (or two-time Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale for that matter), however, the elite players have ways to adapt their attributes, work on their deficiencies and have an impact even if, on paper, it doesn't appear likely to translate. So, sure McKercher may not be able to break through packs like Reid might at the higher level, but this still might translate into a propensity for him to be formidable when he has to beat one opponent at the edge of congestion to enable a forward thrust. And more times than not he might be successful in this regard.

It’s great and all for some to say we need more players and IF we get McKercher it’s not so bad becasue we can then take player A, B and C as well.

Tell me how often players A,B and C ever end up still being there?

There’s as much chance that these players some rate that we’d be happy to split for won’t even be left on the board. We then get to take sloppy seconds in a massively compromised first round.

No thanks.

I’d prefer to take the kid everyone has rated number 1 for two years now and just so happens to have a lot of skills and traits we could desperately use.

Let’s not get cute here. So much can go wrong in this draft. There are so many variables, extra picks, academy boys and picks flying left right and centre.

I’d prefer to not be hoping for the best in the middle of this shit show.

People are overhyping McKercher if you ask me. He stood out bursting out of packs this year. At AFL level he isnt shoving anyone off and he aint bursting out of packs like that. He is too small frame to get away with it in the AFL. He also wont be exceptionally quick in the AFL and will be brought back to the pack pace wise too.

I see Dylan Stephens in the guy is all ill say.
For every Stephens comparison, I give you Z.Merrett, Gulden or even Diacos.

He is not being overhyped at all, he's going to be a star. He'll likely start on half forward until he builds some more size to go into the midfield.

Stephens was very outside, Mck has a very good inside game just needs some size first.

I like him. But's he's like every other kid - we just don't know. We have no idea which kids will end up absolutely elite in this draft.

All we do know, is for 2 years Harley has been a standout #1, as well as every club and supporter wanting him. So much so, that nearly every journalist is fabricating that he doesn't want to go to Perth, and how Vic clubs can get him (notice how they never say how Adelaide or Swans might be able to get him).

So make no mistake, Harley is clearly above the others. Then add in that none of those other guys really suit West Coast.

And yeah, just as Harley may end up Cam Rayner, McKercher may end up Dylan Stephens.

Just take Harley. If he ends up not being that good, no one is losing their job over it. Pick someone else, and Harley ends up Dusty or Danger? You will get sacked, your wife will cheat on you with your best mate, you will get bowel cancer, and then you will go to hell.

And this is what worries me the most. I dont want my pick 2 to need something to become very good at something. Id want more certainty and clarity then what McKercher has. Im also wary of the concept of the "He is a winger, no he is a clearance mid, no he needs to start at HF" style of thinking.

Im certain I could be proven wrong and he breaks out like a Zak Butters, but im not inclined to bet the future of my club on it

In his first year or two sure. But 2 preseasons in the gym and that natural instinct to fend off will start to pay off and he will dominate his peers once again.

Watch rayner tomorrow when he floats through the midfield.
