What would a Dutton Liberal leadership mean for the Liberals and the country?

The enormously obese mineral whore Clive Palmer has begun his idiotic commercial campaign with this nonsense, “Australians are going hungry…..”
ok ya fat campaigner

And he finishes off the ad asking for Australians to say a prayer

Did he mistake us for Alabama?

Also just saw another ad, jeez he looks flushed and thin, and with those blood shot eyes while he tries to tail against climate action.

Been hitting some of the wacky sauce a bit too much eh Clive?

That’s what small government means. Less policy. Or in their case, no policy.
Journos need to start telling Dutton that if it’s so important for Australia’s future that people vote for his policies, he needs to say what those policies are.

Jane Hume was wheeled out on RN this morning. She said that the Coalition would 'rightsize' government and that government spending is crowding out the private sector.

Absolute bullshit. The Great Depression, Second World War, postwar boom and covid pandemic showed that Keynesian economics works. Government spending stimulates the private sector by creating demand, not the opposite. More ideological crap not backed up by evidence. The LNP's schtick.
It’s so dishonest.

Of course the Coalition doesn't mind when profits are up much more than ages. Sounding Marxist, they are for the capitalist class, not the working or middle classes.

In their eyes, it's right and just for business owners to make 20% more money while employees make 10% more, or none, because employees are plebs and employers are superior patricians like them. I believe both employees and employers work hard, and it's right and just for them to share any increases in profit.

There is a global movement to xenophobic Nationalism.

The Liberals have always excelled in that environment.
Is it really a movement, or is it just the same reactionary conservatives have found a new language and figured out how to amplify their racism on Social media without backlash?

Is it not just racist rage bait being amplified by rage clicks and algorithims which promote anger and division?

I think it’s both. Malign feedback loop.

Mate I've lived in different parts of Melbourne so I've been out an about and I know exactly what the outer East for example think in regards to the Labor Party so any excuse to not vote for them they will. As illinformed and as uneducated as you can get. All they care about is getting pissed on weekends, Sport and Cars. Cut and paste the South East. I'll reiterate what I said, if they think Dutton is the better choice we are in real strife as a nation.
Those same folk are the ones complaining that everything costs too much, that they've got no money, and the government is to blame.

Nevermind the fact that they've got 3 cars, a seadoo and 5 houses they can't afford.

Almost as stupid as Midwest America.

Same goes for the people crying poor and saying they can't find staff. You'll just have to pay more and forego the second international holiday this year. Cry me a river.

It's the cashed up bogan demographic, a 50km radius in the outer ring of suburbia. They claim there working class but alot of them are borderline high income earners. There not struggling at all what there struggling with is the inconvenience of having to pay more for things. The genuine people who are struggling if there well informed would not vote for Dutton.

Unfortunately I think a lot of cashed-up bogans - because they are bogans - lack the nuanced thinking to realise that Dutton won't make their lives better. It's simply 'Layba got in and everything's gone up, so I'm voting for Dutton. And he likes Ustralya Day and says he'll get rid of the woke and the immigrants.' Australia is full of people who talk (and presumably think) like that.

At this point, I’m saying not enough for Dutton to be PM. I think Albos numbers get better from here

any diarrhea factory churno who attempt that line of questioning would be looking for a job the next day. sad, but true.

regardless of the reasons or the spin in the media and online for most people things were better before this government

that is a hard thing to overcome at the ballot box and Labor don't really seem interested in doing anything to actually change that

they can have all the stories they want about what they've done to make things better but when most people don't feel it, it won't cut through

and that makes it very easy for LNP to be negative and get Labor voted out which will result in them getting in

they don't really have to do anything more than that currently because Labor are making it very easy for them

There needs to be a balance, but it’s been too balanced towards consultants and spin doctors for too long now
there is very little “balance” in the mainstream press generally. had labor been guilty of the disgrace that is robodebt and the consequent destruction of so many lives, including those who took their lives, there would be no end to the coverage.

sadly, the last sentence is accurate. albo has been a huge disappointment. when he was leader of the house he was a street fighter with strong policy positions. now pfft.

Is that the same Jane Hume who claimed the LNP don't have any policies because they're in opposition?

A Coalition government would lean on banks to lend to creditworthy businesses in fossil fuels, forestry and agriculture after Opposition Leader Peter Dutton attacked “woke” bankers for rejecting loans on environmental grounds.
Coalition sources not authorised to speak publicly said a new policy nearing finalisation would seek to rein in the rise of banks rejecting loan applications from companies in sectors that contravene their environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments.

The LNP already hold a lot of seats like these.

I can see Dutton increasing the margins in such seats, but how will that help him win government?
