Here's how I'd fix it:
- Trade radio declared illegal. No reason apart from that it is, of course, shit.
- Remove the rule that clubs cannot speak to, or table contracts with, in-contract players before this time. It's a charade, everyone knows that terms between clubs and new players have been discussed ad nauseum well before Trade Week, players and key staff meet on the quiet to make sure everyone gets along, the sport needs to grow up.
- Have an hour at the end of each Trade Week day for paperwork submission, and make Trade Week last all of three days.
- No need for the AFL to sign off on future trading. You want to cut your own nose off, be our guest.
