What would you like the club to do with Pick 9?

I'd prefer we kept it unless Lake is avail.
Last draft to get a great kid like Martin or Rohan.
Lets face it we'll be back up top next year and with GC's picks
our first pick will be about 23.

Pick 9 for Tarrant. That's the only bloke we can get with pick 9 who'd be worth it. Gibson, and Burgoyne aren't worth it and Lake and Sandilands will stay put.

Pick 9 shud be used for best available youngster.... I'd prefer a Speedy onballer.....
Pick 25 can be used for a Key backman trade.............

Definitely trade both 9 and 25 in order to fill the holes in our team - namely defence.

If we can't organise trades solve our problems then keep them.

S.Burgoyne would give us salary cap problems and leave us with a leaky defence...

I love to get Sandilands to Hawthorn but what's up with him out of contract or what?

He is contracted, doesnt want to leave and you would need a hell of a lot more than pick 9. Minimum of 2 early 1st round picks but even then we wouldn't trade them due to a shortage of ruckman behind Sandilands.

If Hawthorn use pick 9 on a youngster from the draft it means we have full confidence in Thorp, Kennedy, Morton, Muston, Dowler coming through to step up.

If we trade pick 9 for an experienced player I believe it shows we have completely overated our youngsters coming through.

None of those players you have mentioned are backmen though. If we were to trade our pick for a backman, then the only thing it shows (IMO) is the ability to accurately assess deficiencies in our list.

Pick 9 to be used for nothing other than Lake, Sandilands or maybe Burgoyne but i still have my concerns about his knee.

Otheriwse pick 9 goes on Talia or Cunnington in the draft.

Lake and Sandilands?? Those trades arent going to happen.

Burgoyne for pick 9 - thats a bit rich i woulkd have thought

Talia & Cunnington the way to go ( Cunning is going to be a gun, dont know if he will still be available at 9 tho, you never know, look what happened to Cyril

hawthorns biggest concern is our defence.. last yr we conceded an average of 83 points per game.. this yr we conceded 97.5 points.. idk why on earth we are wasting our time trying 2 get Sandilands when getting would take so much.. we won the GF with Campbell & Renouf & Taylor as a back up.. #1 priority is a KD.. Lake is good.. but we'd have 2 give up so much 2 get him.. Gibson on the other hand we can get with a 2nd round pick.. or in the PSD.. id go after Drum Spangher Gibson McGuire in the PSD.. not Lake 2 big a deal 2 get him.. #2 priority a speedy midfielder.. A.Lovett or S.Burgoyne are a good fit at hawthorn.. but we would have 2 give 2 much away 2 get them.. perhaps Burgoyne 4 pick #9 & S.Taylor? seeing how Lade retired that they dont have another ruckmen.. other speedy midfielders we should be looking at include K.Tenace (Geel) A.Bentick (Carl) R.Cook (Coll) P.Bevan (SYD) N.Malceski (Syd) who we tried 2 get 4 Everitt a few yrs back.. an1 of these players will b ideal.. GO HAWKS!!!

I prefece this post by saying my knowledge of draftees is from reading artcles, forum discussions and watching youtube footage so if I am out with my assessments, they are as good as I can make with the information available.

There are basically three options available to us:

1. Trade
2. Draft Tall
3. Draft Mid

1. Trade for a ready made KKP or ruckman would cover a glaring weakness from season 2009. The realistic KPP prospects available to us are thin. Lake is not a realistic option as he is unlikely to leave the bulldogs and we can't afford to lure him with huge money. Would take him if available. Sandilands is the best tap ruck in the comp (sorry cox and jolly) but he is contracted and NOT going anywhere. Other players "available" are Gibson, MacGuire, Drum and Tarrant. Tarrant is the only acomplished KPP of the four and even then he has had one good year as a defender and two or three top years as a forward in the early part of the decade. I would not give up pick 9 for any of them. Burgoyne is also apparently available but I have my doubts. I would give up pick 9 for him as he would strengthen our midfield and provide an option up forward and even down back if we need to change things up. Very good player and if given the opportunity, you have to recruit them. Salary cap issues and cost to recruit are the sticking points for us.

2. Draft Talia is a common suggestion. I can see the attraction but in a draft with almost no KPP worth talking about for top 10, is he really a strong candidate for a key defensive position. Strikes me as a David Mundy clone but could be another Birchall type (not a bad thing but not what we need). If he is going to make it as a KPP I suspect it would take time to fill out so he can compete against the bigger bodies.

3. Draft a mid sized player. I would favour a player with some speed and foot skills as many have suggested. Cunnington looks reasonable but on the footage available his kicking looks a little loose. Dustin Martin has exceptional kicking skills and would be a fantastic HBF for us. Rohan has amazing speed and every team will consider him with there first pick as he has a big upside and x factor. While a number of phantom drafts have Martin slipping to around pick 7-11, I doubt either he or Rohan will be available at pick 9. Tapscott is another who presents as a good option. Good kicking skills and strong body at the contest – reasonable overhead mark too. Would slot in as a HFF early but I can see him playing down back and through the midfield for us in future. I would pick them in the following order Martin, Rohan, Tapscott, Cunnington with Martin and Rohan easily exchangeable.

I suspect we will keep pick 9 as there seems few candidates worthy of it that we might actually get unless we are prepared to deal on a quality youngster. We should at least recruit one of Gibson and Drum as we need defenders KPP or otherwise that can mark a man properly and I believe both are capable of that role and will still give you something the other way.

What makes you say that? U/18 AA Centre Half-Back - I thought he'd have to be pretty good to earn that spot.

Well, Rohan would be absolutely brilliant too. Cunnington, err, not so sure.
Watched him play a lot this year and his not pick 9 he might turn out to be a good player but if he is the standard of a pick 9 these days that says more about the league than Daniel.

He wasn't the best player at his school and some of those players have a bigger upside as well

I just would rather have Shaun then Daniel
