Manner of attack - when strangling someone, you do so with your hands, as Lake did. Applying your forearm in the manner Boomer did can be argued was trying to hold Picken down.

Area of pressure - Lake was solely focused on the middle of Petrie's neck, Boomer had middle of neck initially, but the majority was to the side of neck/check.

Position of "Victim" - whilst both were lying down, Petrie submitted and did not remonstrate after the initial two way scuffle. Picken pulled Boomer down onto him for the entirety of the scuffle.

Visible effect on victim - Petrie submitted when he realised he couldn't breath and looked to be on the way to passing out. Picken looked angry that Bommer was pinning him down in such a demonstrative fashion.

If Picken was the dirty little niggling prick that you guys say he is, surely he would have at least been reported once let alone suspended. The fact is he beat Harvey fair and square and Boomer (who has form) couldn't take it and went the knuckle. There's no backflip from the Lake incident because they're different incidents in different contexts, but you know somersault with, o wait no logic. Form is whacking one Selwood in a tense final series and that's really about it in recent memory. 21 disposals and a goal is being completely beaten, then you don't understand football. Does Harvey complain about it in the media no, just alongside Griffen he doesn't either so there's no complaint from either, so another moot point. Harvey overreacts 2-3 times to taggers in twenty years and you guys brandish him as the worst human being on the planet. The game is designed to protect taggers as highlighted by the cases involving Ablett and Crowley and the behaviour of the tribunal, so he wouldn't. Picken isn't a dirty player, just a niggling tagger.

Lake's was certainly more controlled. If Harvey's forearm had slipped, or if he fell on Picken throat the potential of injury is much worse.

That's not to say one was worse than the other. This type of incident just shouldn't happen given they're supposed to be professional athletes.

I don't have the time to go through your whole post. But the cliff notes are, your characterization of Petrie as some sort of poor defenseless victim. He not only outweighs Lake by a fair margin he is also still picking bits of Lake's cornea out of his fingernails.
Further the incident between Harvey and Picken was entirely unprovoked. Harvey stopped short in order to initiate contact, then in some sort of reverse urinagi slammed Picken to the ground gave him a love tap with the left and forced the point of his elbow with force (as evidenced by the concave appearance of Liam's neck) into Picken's larynx. This was clearly premeditated and could've resulted in severe damage to Picken. Possibly a crushed larynx, it was an old shooter wrestling move that was seen back in the 1970s when wrestlers used it choke people out who refused to do a job.
Suffice to say both incidents were a blight on the game and Harvey should be severely punished.

You are so preoccupied with provocation of Lake that you have missed the point. Neither Lake nor Harvey had the right to do what they did.

Both got weeks/will get weeks.

Would you not agree an unprovoked attack is more severe than one that was?

Further Harvey's use of the point of the elbow was as dangerous as Lake's use of the hands. In fact Lake could have argued that he was holding Petrie down to keep him away from his already scratched eyes. Harvey can make no such claim.

The only reason Harvey will get a lesser penalty is because Picken will look after him at the tribunal.
