Didn't WA FTA viewers get jibbed last weekend as well with the Freo vs Demons game?
It's NAB cup.

TBH, WA viewers have been pretty lucky to date on this. In Vic, many of the local clubs don't get half their games played on FTA at all during the season.

Was sorted out before the NAB Cup started I believe.

Matches 1, 3, 5 and 6 were on FTA in week one (Eagles/Bombers, Hawks/Tigers, Saints/Magpies, Swans/Blues) and the rest were on Fox.

For Round 2, Matches 10 and 11 are on FTA and the others on Fox. So that's Eagles/Port and North/Fremantle on Fox.

It will only get worse. Foxtel are pushing very, very hard to be allowed to pick the games that they have exclusive rights to instead of just getting stuck with whats left over after the FTA stations have taken what they want in return for providing a very large chunk of the cash in the next TV rights deal. And the two big fish that they are chasing the hardest is the eagles and crows games given that pay TV penetration is very poor in WA and SA and that is the only way they can force people to get it.

Given how much the AFL and Vlad love money and given that they don't care about the interstate clubs (with the exception of Sydney) and fans anywhere near as much as their victorian powerbase i think it is only a matter of time before we start getting gradually sold out by the AFL to foxtel in the name of capitalism and profits.

I think WA viewers will be incredibly pissed, considering the lack of seating/memberships available to many Eagles games or supporters.

Don't forget how many teams there are in Melbourne and how easy it is to get tickets to most games.

The AFL would have to have brass balls to do it.

Also don't forget that the FTA networks just recieved a timely taxpayer funded windfall, so they would more than likely be a little more competitive with bidding.

Mark this down as fact, as soon as the free to air telecast's of the Eagles and AFL in general stopped being shown live is the day the sport will begin to slide into oblivion.

My evidence for this is the Basketball ( sell out games @ the Entertainment Centre ) back in the late 90's switched from channel 10 to channel 7 and they moved it to late time slots on tv then not on at all, it basically lost the public eye and then interest from then on.

Now look at it.

3) Go to the game, and get pissed there
Afterwards you then get to go home broke because of how much it cost to get 'pissed' drinking over-priced mid strength. ;)

Ive just paid for FOX because i had a taste for it while staying with family. The reduced adverts during the game, and the 'better' delayed telecasts when not live were immediately noticeable improvemnts.

I hate the system/the man/telstra/foxtel as much as the next guy, but the experience was better then the non-lubed slamming you get when watching Channel 7.

It's not a problem if you have Foxtel

It is a problem if you dont have foxtel... but do have young kids.

The best i can hope for (in the preseason) is to sneak into the front room and watch it down real quiet. During the season we come to elaborate arrangements so the wife and I can go, but this is pretty shit. I guess i miss out.

FWIW - foxtel is tripe. And to boot it just appears to be the same tripe repeated over and over and over on a 3 day cycle. The last thing the obese country needs is another excuse to sit around on the couch and polish malteasers with the brain switched off... and FreeTV seems to keep everyone happy at that around here.
