I dont think I made myself clear. Im not here to bag umpires because in any sport they are an essential part. In fact I think they do a pretty good job considering all of the laws that are in the game. My point was that when the regional clubs play the Bendigo sides and Gisborne, there is some soft free kicks are payed, when there is nothing much in it. Let it go I say. Yes Castlemaine does play some undisciplined footy, a lot of it by the leaders of the club, but so do Gisborne. They play uncomprimising footy, similar to Hawthorn, and get a fairly good run with umpires from what I have seen. All we ask that you pay the free kicks that are there, and let the game flow as best as possible. If you want to see some sub standard umpiring, go and have a look at the MCDFL.

what a load of sh*t if you call hard contested footy undisciplined then you probably need to go and play netball!!!

all of the above = kyneton fc
spot on there enforcer couldnt have said it better myself

question to everyone who has bagged the umps, have you umpired a bendigo senior game ?

to me i dont think the umpires and they shouldnt deliberatly give soft freee kicks away they act on instinct (or should) dont blame an ump on a sole mistake blame your team for the mistakes it made through the game !!! i crap kick, soft handball, soft effort.

i think they do a good job i know i said bout them vs Maryborough but they do a good job and there are reasons why u guys and i dont umpire they have the balls to walk out there every weekened in front of a crowd that dont like them and every decision someone doesnt like!!

I would have to disagree with you lads there as i was watching the game on saturday Gissy Vs Strath and they won by a comfortable 39 points but i think the umpiring was an absolute disgrace and standard of the umpiring has been pretty shi**ouse for some time!!!

Easy to make such a statement. What about stating the Unwarranted free kicks and decisions that were blatantly wrong, considering you are such an expert on the game. There were two fairly inexperienced BFL Senior umpires umpiring at that game and one that has been around for a while. But where do these guys get that experience?

There are inexperienced footballers out there that make the odd mistake from time to time. The problem umpires have is that they may not make a mistake but to a person with a severe lack of objectivity it is regarded as an error, granted they do make errors but not all the time.

Imagine if Bendigo players gave as much of a toss about interleague as this kid....

Clash with Bendigo an honour too big to pass up

Ballarat Courier - 18/05/2009 11:19:00 PM

RYAN Waight says he would never turn down a chance to play representative football. It is an honour, too big to pass-up, according to the Redan midfielder who will this weekend pull on his second Ballarat Football League guernsey for a clash against Bendigo.

"I'm looking forward to it. Rep footy is a great part of country footy," Waight said. "It's a great chance to meet other players in the league and great chance to get to know them better. "I enjoy playing and the social part after the game is just as important."

Waight made his interleague debut in 2006 as a 20-year-old and progressed to Vic Country duties where he made All-Australian country selection. "We played on the Gold Coast and I had Leigh Colbert coaching me for four days. "The guys from that team are mates for life now."

He encouraged other players to make the most of any interleague chance and said it was a great chance to learn new tactics and styles of play that could be brought home to club football. Waight has returned to RegionalOne BFL competition after two seasons playing in the Victorian Football League.

His enthusiasm for the interleague cause and dynamic on-field presence has earnt him a spot in a six-player leadership group for the one-off game against Bendigo at Bacchus Marsh on Saturday. Waight said he was surprised and humbled by the role, and was ready to throw everything into his game for the clash.
The BFL will officially name its squad after a training session tonight at City Oval.

Thats what I meant by uncompomising football. They are very much a hard contested footy side that sometimes give away some unnecessary free kicks because they like to intimidate their opponents.

SQUAD FARCE

Already ruled out of the inter-league squad through injury are Anthony Holdstock, Brady Childs, Nathan Bell, Ryan Doherty, Aaron Connaughton, Mark Fitzgerald, Ash Noonan, Dujon Fuzzard and Jason Griffin.

Those ruled out through unavailability are Lee and Lance Picioane, Mal Borchard, Justin Arnold, Shannon Milward, Daniel Christmas and Balraj Singh.
Additions to the initial squad are Adam Baird, Josh Gitsham, Tim Nicolson, Ryan Threlfall and Brodie Filo.
With this quality missing - it could get very ugly on Saturday

Mostly kids. Gisborne boys are kids, and the outgoing from Eaglehawk will return for the next round

Gday gents, long time no speak. Good to see nothing has changed, we still despise umpires!

Kyneton, battling away well, been competitive a couple of times now

KFlat, A little disappointing thus far, a few too many blokes playing for themselves or cash?

South, Very good, and have a terrific side for the QEO. Will they fall over again?

Maryborough, Looking pretty good, still playing plenty of kids and picking up the odd win.

Eaglehawk, maybe on the up now, but quite a disappointing start. Didn't recruit well enough?

Sandhurst, Just ran over Kyneton, but look a competitive young list, that will mature in time.

Strath, terrific, very competitive. Already achieved more then was expected.

Castlemaine, Very disappointing, cannot string four quarters together. May be time for the club to put their hands in pockets and clean up the playing list?

Golden Square, Just travelling nicely, quiet achievers that may go deep into September.

Gisborne, Again proving why they are the best club since Northern United. Just have such depth and continue to win the tight ones. Is it their year again?

Players that have impressed (Just to name a few)

Lance Picioane- Hard, maybe over the top at times but extremely clever. Wins the footy out and is continuely on the end of it. Reminds me of the Krakouer brothers the way he can find his brother Lee.

Justin Arnold- Jet, wins the footy well and always finds space on the left. Good pace and knows how to find the sticks. A genuine quality midfielder.

Ollie Messoudi- Enough said. Probably in career best form, but playing the way we have come to expect. Ferociously hard, runs all day and keeps dishing it out to the runners eg. Sharp. One of the best midfielders of the past decade in the BFL.

Lachy Sharp- Of the younger brigade, this kid looks very classy. Can kick a goal, only a wirey 6 footer. Good pace, strong overhead and looks a player of the future.

Thanks lads

gisborne play undisciplined football!!! you have got to be dreaming. gisborne are the most disciplined side going around and have been for quite a few years. and yes the umpires were woefull at strath on the weekend but it went both ways. not a damn thing we can do about the umps so we all have to put up with them

the four gisborne boys are currently playing with the local gisborne rookies side (rdfl) and they are in their final year with them. the boys will then progress to the u18 gizzy side next year. all four boys are local. good on them

That is exactly the problem. Plenty has been spent this year and it will deliver no success. Big build-up for the 150th year and no result. Gutting for the people that have put so much time into the club. The future has to be a real concern.

I tend to agree, the money has been spent over the last couple of season and unfortunately the money seems to be going to the wrong blokes. There is a couple highly paid recuits on the list at the moment still putting there hand out, when in reality they should have been playing reserves 3 weeks ago.

The other real concearn down there at the moment is that there is talk of bringing back the likes of Oliver, Eyles and Blake to join Smith. The club did the right thing and cleaned them out 3 or 4 years ago. If these blokes want to help the club out they should play reserves and play for the love of the game.

Couldnt agree more Maineman. As an outsider I feel sorry for the likes of Ron Cawthan and Ray Taylor who seem like they put in countless hours for the club. Some of these players obviously dont repect the tradition and legacy of past players who have served this proud club.

The future is a concern no doubt. If that is true about Eyles, Blake and Oliver then the committee surely must step in here. Those 3 have been terrific servants for the club, all coaching the club in some capacity but surely they must realise their time in the sun has come and gone. Help out the twos and get them back on track as there is a real lack of leadership out there. Wouldnt know who is captain or vice captain in any grade apart from Jimmy O'Brien. If anyone knows I'd like to know and comment on that.

Madcata, you make the point about a few of these players putting their hand out for little return? I'd be having a guess here but you are talking about Bill Rolfe in particular. Been very disappointing this year and looks to have come back a bit overweight. Who are the others possibly that fits in that category? Not knowing what people pay packets there could be a few others but I wont put my foot in it.

i you'll find that the 3 mentioned above will only play the game against strathfieldsaye as a one off. the club is going nuts. can expect more players leaving at seasons end unless something dramatic changes around the place :thumbsu:

Sounds like you are in the know Crow Eater. Why the Strath game? And what do you mean by the club is going nuts??? Who do you expect to leave?? This is disheartening for our community

I am with you there. If that plans actually happens I know of quite a few fringe Senior players who will walk.

Bringing back 3 blokes like that is a slap in the face for the guys there every week busting their guts.

The rolls royce is back!!

come on, that's old news KA....

I'm more interested on your other "news" from today.

Re: Ballarat Football League
Also there is a huge push for Gisborne to join the Ballarat league next year. A proposal will be put to Gisborne shortly about the benefits in joining this league - only travel 5 times etc. With teams looking to be pushed out Gisborne would be a great replacement to strengthen the league. My mail is this will happen and they will be in next year. Bookmark this post.

Go get them WARDY!!!
