kill the messenger - felt like a John Cusack movie

Should have done Map to the Stars just as I did.

Cronenberg sure knows how to take his cast out of their comfort zone and I enjoyed (can you call it that?) this more than his last couple.

Seriously messed up movie but in a good messed up way 8/10

Liked it just as much. Though I loved it the first time. There were more just little things I picked up on I guess. I was more aware to watch everything happening on the screen as much as I could, rather than just focusing on one character.

Also to watch Edward Norton at any possible second.
Just saw it. What did you make of the ending?

I didn't really like it. Just couldn't get into it.

American Beauty (1999)

Yes, in all these years I had never seen it. Can see why it cleaned up with all those awards back in the day. I'm not entirely sure
why that Marine guy kisses Kevin Spacey before killing him though??? Was he a closeted homosexual all along? Or was he trying to relate to his son and accept that his son was gay?

9/10
Hey I watched it the other night for the first time too. Loved it. Excellent film. Cant tell if it was supposed to be hilarious but i found it hilariois up until the final act obviously

Finally got around to seeing The Interview, was alright. Wacky Franco was a pisser. I ****ing lost it at this scene with the reporters outside the studio:
"Hey Skylark, have you worked out which one of Kim Jong Un's butt cheeks you'll be kissing first?"
"No, because I'm going to be giving him something with my hands!" (makes a hand shaking gesture)
"You're going to jerk him off"?
"What? No...it was a double entendre!"

The General (1926) - Great film. One of the very best of the silent era. Keaton was an immense talent and the camera work and editing is still fantastic to this day. A genuinely thrilling film.

Into The Woods - Jesus... I dont like musicals but this is a new low. 2/10

i take it your not a stephen sondheim fan, his musicals are nothing of the les mis/phantom (no pun intended!) variety. i've seen the stage musical and although some cuts have been made they are very minor and dont distract from the movie - the casting was top notch and did excellent in the singing roles and i am pleased to see that its doing well at the box office and with potential oscar noms.

The Drop -- I really liked this one. Another great acting performance from Hardy. I'm a sucker for films like this where the main character is underestimated and far more capable than others think. I'll give this an 8/10.

agree. Also note his wife in the movie, without spelling it out, she does come accross as someone not getting a lot of lovin

It really is one of my faves. You either get it or you dont, some people think the plastic bag scene is stupid, others understand that is basically what the whole movie is about. It'stagline LOOK CLOSER could not be more apt.

a couple of interesting takes on it's symbolism etc

Zero theorem, another strange one, I like Christoph Waltz but I didn't like seeing him in that role (loser). I give it 6.5/10 the extra half mark was for Bainsley's sexy version of Radiohead's "Creep" on her website.:hearts:

American Sniper - Bradley Cooper really has turned into a very accomplished actor. Its a real good movie based around real life US Navy sniper Chris Kyle. The action scenes are excellent, it gives great exposition about his family life. Where does it seem amongst Zero Dark Thirty & Hurt Locker? Its right up there, I think it trends towards the faster paced Hurt Locker. Just as good as both movies. Its probably my favourite Clint Eastwood directed movie. 8.5/10

Most of what you just said made no sense at all to me. I hated Les Mis (waaaaaay too long and dull). I thought the casting was odd, not sure what Oscar noms this would be up for, even putting aside my hatred of it, best musical i guess.

Adored him in Adaptation

Hobbit: Battle of 5 Armies - Felt like they tried too hard to make an epic to end all epics and I found myself waiting for it to finish with about 30 minutes to go. 5/10

Did a McConaughey double on Saturday night.

First up The Paperboy - thoroughly enjoyed this southern crime thriller - McConaughey plays a journalist brother to the co lead Zac Efron - also features John Cusack as a farked up redneck on death row and Nicole Kidman as a blond slutty prisoner lover... set in the late 60s with undertones of racial tension.

Solid 7/10 for this.

could have done without the McConaughey S&M homosexuality stuff as it really added nothing to the story

Second up The Lincoln Lawyer a crime thriller with MM playing a defence lawyer and getting roped into a murder case. Loved William H Macy in this too.
8/10

Saw St. Vincent and Birdman over the weekend.

Thoroughly enjoyed both for different reasons. I found Melissa McCarthy a bit distracting in SV but not sure why.

I loved Birdman but one of the people I went with thought it was tripe, so I think it's going to be very polarising. Edward Norton was kick ass, but the stories seem to be that he was essentially playing himself..

sondheim as in the film's composer/lyricist and phantom as in the phantom of the opera
streep and/or emily blunt for best supporting actress

Why did I watch Don Jon last night?

Written and Directed by JGL... seems nothing but an excuse for him to lift weights and pretend to be macho. It did not work for him at all. Everything sounded contrive and he really couldn't act the part. Every character was made to have their little corner and were nothing more than that, as opposed to being interesting characters had a point. And that's not to mention the deplorable story: so, so obvious he was going to end up liking the ugly ginge.
