All The Money in the World - an ok flick but nothing that really stood out. If they did follow through with Spacey in the role Plummer took over, it would have been two out of the three leads being miscast (as Marky Mark was just a silly choice in this movie - no way he could hold up his own with Michelle Williams on the other side). Plummer was really good as the tightest old bastard in living history. 6/10.

Tom Hardy tripping over his accent in the previews is enough to turn me off.

Ain't it weird they are retconning comic characters races and genders all over the show, but heaven forbid they aren't American!

Dont want to cause a shit storm with a beloved Spider-Man with another accent. Americans would probably boycott the movie.

Searching.

High concept keeps you engaged but doesn't leave a lasting impression.

Hmmm. It was okay. I didn't particularly care for the production style, (it's basically POV of the main character looking at and operating a computer screen most of the time), in fact it kind of infuriated me for the first 20 minutes or so and I almost walked out. Is this what the world is coming to, are people that addicted to being online that even a movie needs to be dished up as if the viewer is at a computer?

Anyway, clearly they've decided to go with this format. You could call it a gimmick, or you could call it challenging themselves. The Tom Hardy movie Locke tried something similar (an entire movie of a man driving a car and on the phone) and we engaging enough. Searching succeeds in their experiment in that after a while the schtick becomes less jarring and you can settle in to enjoying the film. Unless of course you like things like good cinematography, as this movie sacrifices that completely. (Even the live action scenes are deliberately filmed to look shit). Guess it was edited well at least. (If there was anything to edit?)

As for the plot, it's an engaging mystery with layers of twists and reveals which are kind of good, although I pretty much saw it all coming. (I'm not normally the type that does)

The sound and editing are good. Acting is okay, but the format doesn't really allow this aspect of the movie to flourish.

All up, it tried something different, and it could have been really shit because of that, but it wasn't.

2.5 stars.
I thopught the format was rather clever. The searching by the dad seemed pretty realistic.

7.5/10 from me.

Yeah, don't get the Venom hate. Maybe they left out some stuff they shouldn't have, but what was in there I felt was fine. Perhaps that's just because I love Eddie Brock and Tom Hardy, though. Would have liked an R rated version of this, though.

Beast

Bit of a haunting movie set on the island of Jersey in the UK. It creates a good sense of the place, both beautiful and isolating / haunting.

A young girl, black sheep of the family, buggers off from her own birthday party because the people there shit her to tears. She goes out drinking and dancing all night. The next morning her mundane existence (her home life is one with a horribly oppressive mother) takes an interesting turn. Along with this there is a serial killer at large on the island.

The story could have done with some more meat in it. I mean they set up this really interesting scenario and i recon they could have gone in some more interesting directions with it. The performance by the leads was really good, and the war it was shot and the score make it a bit creepy and forboding at times.

3 stars.

I put on Ted last night for no other reason than it showed up in my Netflix recommendations and I vaguely remembered being interested in seeing it when it first came out. It was stupid, of course, but had some reasonably funny moments. Don't think I'd bother watching the sequel though - I really don't see how they can stretch an already paper-thin premise over another hour and a half.

Ant-Man and The Wasp.

That post credits scene, too soon. :(

It was ok. The usual Marvel action with a fairly ridiculous plot and inserted humour. I laughed a few times then some of the jokes fell flat. They made a pretense of explaining the science but it's best not to think about it too much because none of it made any sense. Eg how does a person breathe oxygen when they are sub-atomic sized? There seemed to a big plot anomaly -
why did the Laurence Fishburne character help them find Ghost when he was her ally?

6/10.

Mandy- to say this movie is batshit crazy is an understatement. 10/10 willl not watch again.

Is this Nic Cage's magnum opus?

The trailer throughly tripped me out, so much so I thought I was on lysergic acid for 2 minutes.

I also downloaded the directors previous movie - Beyond the Black Rainbow I think it was

Hereditary

Wish I was sober for this. Was stoned then drunk (not that there's anything wrong with that!). It was pretty good. Would've been great to see in a cinema, ideally alone, but I'm of a "**** cinemas" mindset at the moment (too many campaigners talking and playing on their phone). They did a great job showing what being an older teenage boy is like. Reminded me of myself and my brother. He was kind of the main character but nobody's heard of the actor so they didn't plaster him on the poster. Toni Collete and Gabriel Byrne play his parents and some weird looking girl plays his sister. You should watch it. NSWCROW you'd like it.

The House with a Clock in its Walls.

Actually ok. Cate Blanchett and Jack Black excellent chemistry. 6/10

Was expecting it ot be awful but yeah it was perfectly watchable.

I saw that as well. Reminded me somewhat of Goosebumps but it was another typical Jack Black performance.

Hanna

Don’t bother
Yeah, I remember watching that when it came out and being incredibly disappointed. Just everything about it was an absolute cliche. I enjoyed the scenes set in that abandoned theme park at the end though - not because they were interesting or well-acted, just a suitably creepy spot. When I visited a friend in Berlin, he took us on a bike tour around they city, including going to SpreePark.

Watched the last 40 or so of the Amtyville Horror last night. Holy **** that is some intense shit.

Good flick.
