The Predator

I think the fairest comparison of this movie is the Cowboys vs Aliens (which I love). CvsA was a classic film that knew what it was, a shameless whoring out of traditional genres for the novelty value. Nobody in it took it too serious, and it was fun enough to have some big names sign up.

That is what this movie tried to be. But through a script that I could have farted out in an hour, D grade actors, and more plot holes than a 13 year old's Star Wars fan-fic, it failed miserably. The true genius of the Predator franchise is the minimalism and terror you can create without showing the monster. This was not a movie in that vein.

I suspect that Hollywood had a C grade alien invasion movie script, and in an attempt to get it green-lit and on a money making trajectory, they turned it into a Predator movie to get the nostalgic suckers like me through the gates.

I wasn't bored, but I won't be seeing it again or recommending anyone else does. Let it be my gift to you, that I have sat through this toilet stain of a film, so you can spend your lives doing something more interesting..... like hanging out the washing.
Yeah I wouldnt see it again. Was ok but yeah as I predicted from the previews was more about tryinv to get a laugh pr something. Was ok though.

Atomic Blonde

First watch since the cinema. Got both better and worse at the same time.

What got worse was the plot/story. Editing and scene transition seemed more abrupt, settings are difficult to follow, it's just a bit sloppy all around if like a coherent unfolding of things.

The good news is, everything else got better. The action scenes in this are outstanding, which is the glue that holds everything else together, with music and sex icing on the cake. What I did notice about it though, is that it doesn't feel over the top, the violence is graphic without being gratuitous, it's erotic without being exploitative. Makes it feel mature in a way, but also contributes to things feeling confused as to whether this is a rollicking entertaining adventure or a taught espionage thriller.

It's also refreshing to see a movie with a strong female lead, but she isn't invincible.

****ing good movie overall. Will watch again. The one take fight scene is one of the best of all time.

Finally watched Justice League on netflix.

That was a crikey. Whats with the bad guy? He looks soo stale and i guess, generic? Looked like the bad guy from a snes game. I dunno how you could f up whatever this had to be. What a bland vanilla cash grab. Up there with Adam Sandlers flicks.

There are serious rorts happening in hollywood. Such little effort.

I saw this on netflix too, terrible movie

Climax - probably the wildest film I'm going to see this year. The film opens with a single shot dance sequence, depicting a Parisian dance troupe having their final rehearsal before touring the United States. I'm not sure the last time I found a dance scene in a film so exhilarating, this is beautifully filmed and choreographed. Celebrating, the DJ cracks out some tunes and they enjoy their night, until they discover someone has spiked the sangria, and everything descends into a hellishly bad acid trip. This is a film that understands what makes for a great party and how quickly and easily that can dip over into nightmare territory - halfway through the movie I felt like going clubbing, by the end I felt like going home and going to bed. The soundtrack sizzles (Gary Numan, Cerrone, Patrick Hernandez, M/A/R/R/S, Aphex Twin, Soft Cell, Giorgio Moroder and The Rolling Stones); between the pulsating bass that echoes over the entire film, the mesmerising cinematography and the terrific performances from the young cast (who are almost all dancers, not actors), this is well worth seeing at the cinemas when it's released commercially in December. ****

Hereditary.

WTF. The longer it went on, the better it became. At the end another WTF moment. Even for me I was like, shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiyeeeeetttttttt.

I got around to watching that this week, and I couldnt believe how overrated it was.

The first half or so was quite creepy and interesting, but the second half just got more and more stupid and not remotely scary. I saw all the reviews were like 'ohhh this film doesnt rely on horror cliches of sudden bangs etc ...' .... but that is exactly what it was.

Same here, I finally got around to watching Justice League on netflix.. I want my 90 min back, seriously what a piece of shit. The only good thing about that movie is Gal Godot.. other than that.. what the **** were they even thinking. By far the worst "Super hero" movie I have ever seen.

Johnny English 3

Lucky I got free tickets because if I paid money for it I would consider flying over to London, tracking down Rowan Atkinson, and beating him to death with a hammer. One of the worst movies I've ever seen, only cracked a mild laugh during one sequence (people who watch will know what I mean). Rest was garbage.

Venom 6/10

Thoroughly more enjoyable than a few formulaic Marvel movies. Recently watched Ant Man 2 and although not a bad movie was pretty boring compared to this. Definitely not as bad as what them reviewers are being all negative about. Some entertaining action pieces, the dynamic between Venom & Eddie was great and funny.

That elevator scene, and this 8 year old kid sitting with his family asked "what's a pussy?" lmao

Tom Hardy tripping over his accent in the previews is enough to turn me off.

Ain't it weird they are retconning comic characters races and genders all over the show, but heaven forbid they aren't American!
