Robert Duvall and Gene Hackman strike me as two blokes who’ve been good in everything I’ve seen them in. Admittedly there‘s a lot I haven’t seen. Just looked them up on wiki- both 90 not out. Well played lads.
I remember seeing runaway jury back when it came out. Hard to believe that besides welcome to moose port (which Im not counting), Hackman hasn't been in a movie since. Good on him for saying I've had enough and living the rest of his life out of the spotlight. Ended on exactly 100 roles too according to imdb.

De Niro has really, really phoned it in a few times. Picked some bog average roles.

No disputing that. However, his 25 odd year run from Bang the Drum Slowly onwards is unparalleled. The Godfather II, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and The King of Comedy are all as good as it gets, with a dozen or so other excellent performances right through to Jackie Brown.

Pacino's run isn't far behind either.

Great shout. Two of the most reliable and both have a handful of top tier performances. Dustin Hoffman hasn't had a great career as an older man so is rarely talked about, but for a long time he was considered up there with DeNiro and Pacino.

Just watched John Wick 3.....Take him on at your own peril mother farkers.

De Niro has had some pretty good roles amongst the money grabbers he's done. I think he might've been divorced a few times which may have caused him to take more roles for financial reasons? I think his fall (which I don't really think there has been, was great in The Irishman for example) has been much smaller than others. I find it so weird looking through some good actors from big movies 20-30 years ago, and seeing the shit they have done lately. It's sad.

Regularly an issue for great actresses (although improving) but also there for the men too. Diane Keaton was one of the reliable greats of the 1970s and one of the all time most deserving Oscar winners, but has only had a couple of things worth noting after 40. Faye Dunaway the same, and her 21st century filmography is absolute bargain bin trash. I don't think Meryl Streep's necessarily the best of her generation at their respective peaks, she's just been able to avoid getting absolute trash foisted on her as she's aged.

Promising Young Woman. 2020.

I found it really patchy. The premise was ok - that the protagonist wants to extract revenge on sleazy men because of what happened to her friend. Then she hooks up with some bumbling dweeb nice guy. Is this really what intelligent women want in a man? Then it turns out
he was also a scumbag male - yawn.

It was promoted as a dark comedy but there is no comedy.

The ending felt disconnected but is better than the rest of the movie.

4/10.

oh how could i have forgotten...one of the greatest films ever made (with De Niro in lead role)....THE MISSION.
Stop please. If ever he needed to hide his NY accent it was this shallow romp.

What about James Caan? Wasn’t he considered in the same league as Pacino and De’Niro once?

He was building an interesting career through the 70's but it didn't really amount to much. Doesn't have the heights nor the weight of numbers of the rest of the guys mentioned so far.
