Continued in Part 7:

My son wants to get into the MCU and I cant be arsed sitting through the first Captain America, Thor, etc so we watched the first Avengers on Saturday night. This is easily the best one in the whole MCU lot. I haven't seen the latest ones yet such as the new Dr Strange but the way The Avengers flows, has every character getting some major air time/battle time is just awesome.

We'll watch Age of Ultron, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America Civil War (which is also great) and then Infinity War and Endgame in the proper timeline so he understands it.

The Avengers: 8/10

Misery (1990, Amazon) -
Top notch acting from Kathy Bates in a play-like horror that was a cool metaphor for overcoming addiction. 8/10.

Triple Frontier (2019, Netflix) -
I recall this being much maligned but, barring the usual plot contrivances, this was a worthwhile action romp. Scenery particularly enjoyable. 7/10.

the two Joss Avengers movies have not aged particularly well I don't feel

Ready Or Not

Been meaning to get around to this for ages, finally did it last night. Good, light, fun sort of horror / comedy - treads the line nicely between the two without leaning too far into either. Not great art but certainly entertaining enough if you want to watch something that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Should've started with Iron Man.

If you're an MCU fan I'm sure that Avengers is brilliant but I wasn't really grabbed by it.

Prefer 2 3 and 4.

Try and find X-Men or Spider-Man cartoons from the 90s. Awesome stuff.
Disney plus has it I’m pretty sure.

Few years to go then. My eldest loves Marvel superheroes but we're sticking with the cartoons for now.
Others with kids of that age can probably comment more than me but maybe stuff like guardians and cap 1 could be okay.

Guardians to me is one of the heavier ones and Cap 1 takes places in WW2.

Not the 2 I would have picked for young kid viewing.

I remember quite enjoying this, I was expecting a traditional '80s action movie and got something very different.
Agreed it felt more like a 'what would you do' type greed parable.
Ive acyally enjoyed a few of these. In the Extraction, The Contractor mould.

Pretty solid.
Are these films better than Triple Frontier?

Prey
Made by a fan of the original for sure
Like he's said it in interviews so news but yeah, seems he meant it, unlike most of the time someone says they are these days before butchering a world

I seem to remember the XMen cartoon dealt with some heavy themes

There is so much wrong with Age of Ultron.

Even having the film open with a huge battle made the entire rest of the film feel underwhelming and completely pointless/boring.

Possibly the worst major action film of the past ten years.

JC Chandor is one of a few directors that I follow closely, especially with him only having made a handful of films.

All is Lost and A Most Violent Year are in my top ten films of all time, so I had high hopes for Triple Frontier, especially with Oscar Isaac involved.

But I didn’t care much for it. It was fine, but it just felt a bit generic and “eh”. Having said that, it was one of those “development hell” films, with a thousand different writers, directors and actors involved for years, so I guess it could have been worse.
