Continued in Part 7:

There is so much wrong with Age of Ultron.

Even having the film open with a huge battle made the entire rest of the film feel underwhelming and completely pointless/boring.

Possibly the worst major action film of the past ten years.
I am going to agree with this - the movie was signficiantly underwhelming, the dialogue was not good (the humour they tried to inject was cringeworthy at best).

literally the only good thing about Ultron was Spader voicing it

Prey (2022).

Predator encounters the Comanches from 300 years ago whose best warrior/hunter is a young female.

It's very predictable. It's another girl power movie that transplants 21st century values into another time.
You know the downtrodden female main character is going to kill the Predator. Along the way this skinny woman outfights several large men before single handedly defeating one of the deadliest warriors in the universe.
The dialog is sparse which is a good thing as it varies between bland and inappropriately contemporary, with a bit of fan service thrown in. The acting was poor which is fine as all the characters apart from the main were one dimensional cardboard cut outs.

Despite all that, it's an enjoyable action movie that is well made and watchable.

5/10
I actually thought they didn't overdo the girl power thing in this.

Her brother was still clearly the best hunter in the group even giving the predator a run for its money and forcing it to hide at one stage. She basically lucked out until the final face off.

Agree with this i would also note

Much like with Arnie in the original most of the film wasnt about them hunting the Predator it was about surviving, being Prey (hence the title).

If The Terminator or Alien was made now people would be bitching about woke Hollywood girl power.

Whining fragile males that can't handle it not being about them shut the **** up challenge

Prizefighter:The Life of Jem Belcher (2022)
Generic boxing film,boxer becomes champ,
succumbs to alcohol and women.
Kept me interested,just.
It's set around 1800 with a couple of crusty performances by Ray Winstone (trainer) and Russell Crowe (alcoholic grandfather).
Big Russ definitely channelling South Park's
'Fighting around the World' character.
2 stars

I think Convenant (or Prometheus, or both) might have copped similar feedback, which is amusing given that franchise started with Ripley.

Absolutely - sure End Game it was just over the top, but gobsmacked that Prey could be thought of in that way.

Even End Game was just one scene of a few seconds. Sure, it was a bit on the nose, but any time you heroically pan over the heroes striking a pose, it looks a little on the nose.
That scene in End Game was just badly done tokenism.

Watched it recently and thought it held up quite well. Harsh take.

I think the Endgame shot was intended as the "Marvel is for the girls and women too".

I didnt hate it but it also wasnt for me so i just accept that it likely meant something to a young girl watching the film.
I thought it was a middle finger to those that rallied against Captain Marvel (i.e. review bombing, etc). I mean, I didn't hate it but acknowledged it for what it was.

Another weekend at the cinema, actually found a Hoyts in my city that offers $10 VIP Xtremescreen tickets, however 2 drinks and a regular popcorn cost me like $30 lol.

Nope
This was pretty good but I get why not everyone likes it. I've listened to a podcast today on it and watched a few things which I always like to do to hear some perspectives on the movie and then take my own meaning from the movie. Would love to discuss the movie further somewhere. There are some pretty scary scenes in the movie but I definitely wouldn't call it a horror. It's funny because there are massive sci-fi elements but at the same time everything is very close to reality. 8/10

Charlie Wilson's War
This was a bit of a miss imo. Hanks was good, and I'm excited to read a bit more history on the backstory but the story of the American's selling weapons to the Afghans was what originally hooked me in. It was kinda too like cliche for me, they would just plant sex or drugs in between the long dialogue scenes to make it more watchable I felt. It's still a good story and some good acting but yeah. Not the best ever. 6.5 or 7/10

The Russo's and their writing team made some good movies but one thing they generally sucked at was dealing with the female characters.

Their reasons for why Natasha sacrificed herself was bleagh

Without actually really doing anything of substance with almost all the characters they used in the shot

There has been some good representation in some of the MCU properties but Disney is also really big into self promoting a five second scene as strong representation.

Like proper representation means its actually important and part of the story, most of what they do is around the edges, often so it can be edited out of the movie in some markets....

Agreed, it's a small thing and shouldn't replace better stories and representation, but young girls also probably loved it. Didn't hurt my viewing experience.

If also this, then good, the reaction to Captain Marvel was childish in the extreme.

Who's the best movie villain of all time and why is it Clarence Boddicker

The rest felt boring because a large stretch of it takes place on a farm. The most boring setting for so many films and TV

Just watched a great movie about a policeman that falls victim to violent criminals and is left disabled and traumatised. He then has to recover his purpose and sense of identity as he recovers.

Extremely moving and powerful.

Watched a couple on a mental health day yesterday

Lightyear - Average all round. Didnt have any of the charm or humor it really needed to to work well. 5/10

Not Okay - Really enjoyed this, Zoey Duetch accidentally falls into being a fake victim of a terrorist attack and winds up famous from it. Interesting look at the social media phenomenon and how stuff like this plays out. 8/10

Fresh - Interesting concept and started really interestingly but kind of falls to standard horror tropes at a point. Daisy and Sebastian are really really good. 7/10

I'm on a massive late 1960s to late 1970s binge/exploration.

Too many movies and directors to list, but many that are avante garde and you don't see done much anymore.

Henry Jaglom (a safe place, etc), Bob Rafelson (head, etc), Nicolas Roeg (track 29, man who fell to earth, dont look now, eureka, etc) Donald Cammell (performance, demon seed, etc) Monte Hellman (china9, ride in whirlwind, two lane blacktop, cockfighter, etc), as well as other notable movies like Myra Breckinridge, Candy, Valley of the Dolls, The Hired Hand, Sorcerer, Barbarella, Felicity, Vanishing Point, and many other type trucking/car movies from the 70s, as well as Sam Peckinpah catalogue.

Too many to all name.

I thought Not Okay was ordinary until the end. Loved it and raised it from a 5 to a 7 for me.
