Where would Caddy go in 2012

this story is dead until next week then we will see who is really willing to play hard to get Caddy. So many conflicting stories in the media it isn't funny so the speculation is pointless until we see some hard facts on the table.

Are we still discussing this? Carlton have put pick 11 on the table, so unless another club than top it, then the deal's done.

Pick 11 has been on the table for several weeks.

If Caddy prefers Geelong or North or St Kilda to Carlton, I can't see Gold Coast holding out over a couple of spots in the draft order.

Exactly. As soon as a player talks to a club it's "that player is going there," when all they're doing is window shopping

We won't know anything till next week. No doubt Caddy & GC will both have to compromise if they've got conflicting interests. If Caddy wants a club that doesn't offer GC the best deal then chances are both will to compromise otherwise Caddy will get picked up by a bottom-based club in the draft, likewise if Caddy doesn't want a club that offers GC the best deal then both will have to compromise otherwise GC may miss out on a pick. It's called a negotiation and you never get exactly what you want. Unless you're Chris Judd.

Other thing, this year is a bumper draft, so chances are it probably won't be a huge loss to whatever team doesn't get him if they keep their first round pick

Don't be silly Funky, It is never that easy. Plus by the looks of all the rumours going around he is not interested in Carlton. I suppose anything can happen in trade week.

Tad annoyed at Caddy not choosing Essendon this year despite it appearing difficult for us to conduct a trade. If he was so enamoured with our club last season I do not see why 12 months would make a difference to him. Despite landing Goddard, whom everybody would much prefer, I am greedy, I want Caddy at Essendon also. Whilst very content with the Goddard coup and the injection of young Daniher, as well as the general buoyant feeling Jobe has brought to the club, another top rated youngster would gladly be welcomed into the club.

I agree - hes gonna end at one of our clubs i reckon - hopefully its North but i wont be shattered if its not as i think we can get a real find at pick 14.

I think he is scared of the Weapon.

As for the Goodard V Caddy - a 12 year mid or a 4 year mid? It is not as clear cut as you think.

Think McKay said Caddy was too expensive. Either Caddy wants more money. Or the Suns want more than pick 11.

Geelong's compensation pick would be more attractive if it becomes a top ten pick as a banked selection.

Cats have more space in their cap to outbid rivals.

I wouldn't choose North if I wanted to play for a club with solid finances and a stable board.

The Compo pick might look good for the GCS to help with list management, but not so good for the Crows if the GCS intend to on-trade it for Tippett. I am sure that Adelaide would be more interested in a pick of known value in a strong draft than a pick of variable value (anywhere from say 8 to 18 depending on if Geelong slide down the ladder in the next two years) in a draft of unknown strength. Remember it will need to be used either in 2013 or 2014, so if they don't see Geelong sliding in that time then it might not be seen as that valuable.

I think Essendon may have just been the first club to get in his ear last year so he chose us.

I think that people might believe that Geelong has plenty of room in their cap because they made a big play for Boak. This doesnt mean that they'll pay Caddy a fortune, but you would assume that they have some room to pay him.
I think we have around $1 - $1.2mill in cap room for the coming year stemming to the vet list changes (700k) and Scarlo retiring (300 - 400K)

GC need to get 7 players off of their list year so adding another draft pick that has to be used this year isn't going to help them to that end which is why the Ablett compo pick is attractive as they can bank it and use it when they don't have to get the list numbers down

Well at present we have no way to get him. He knows that so why nominate us. I can't see any reason why we would be his desired destination, when many similar clubs are chasing him and have the means to get him.

Easy.
Lewis Moss
Josh Fraser
Hayden Jolly
Tom Nicholls
Piers Flanagan
Jacob Gilbee
Sam Iles
Jackson Allen
and of course Josh Toy and Josh Caddy.- There's a few more that I don't rate but they can wait for next year's cut.

How much money are we talking? Carlton found space to make Cloke an offer, so salary cap pressure won't be an issue.

That's all well and good if Caddy wants to go to Carlton, but hasn't he already ruled the Blues out.

Not that I heard of... I'm sure he's not ruling anyone out. His concern is about returning to Victoria and securing a good deal along the way. What other reason would he have to rule out a club? He's a professional footballer. And until he's a superstar, beggars can't be chooses.

If it's a 2 year contract that's fine..... 3 or 4 years might be pushing it.

It's too much dough for a green kid mate, and it has the potential to be destabilising.

Would Varcoe have been on $300K when Geelong won the flag? I doubt it.

They may want to use the Caddy pick in another trade as well.

I highly highly doubt we'd give Caddy that much.

Players like Duncan and Christensen who are far ahead of Caddy, are on $150-$200k.

Caddy would be earning probably the same as players like Smedts and Motlop, who are probably on $150000 tops.

Just read this part in the news about whether or not if GC would bid on Viney or not

Clayton also confirmed serious Gold Coast interest in Adelaide's Kurt Tippett, but said a potential deal with the Crows would likely be independent of its dealings with Victoria-bound midfielder Josh Caddy.

So was thinking that the GC are keeping the two separate
