they went out in straight sets though so still kinda irrelevant
They won 15 games (their last 6 in a row) to snatch 4th place on the ladder

They won late season thrillers vs Geelong, Essendon and Sydney (at the SCG), not only ending the Bomber's finals dreams, but also snuffing out Geelong and Sydney's hopes of finishing in the top 4.

They played two MCG finals in front of crowds of 91,446 and 90,152.

Their best player Tom Mitchell won the MVP award and the Brownlow Medal

Sure, the Hawks were eliminated from the finals in straight sets, but this is not an "irrelevant" season from an "irrelevant" team & coach. You are being ridiculous. Irrelevancy applies to all the shite teams down in the bottom third of the ladder

Like I said earlier, the 2018 season remains one of Clarkson's finest coaching achievements. He no longer had Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Franklin, Hill, Birchall, Lake or Gibson. Cyril played just 4 games. But he somehow got the Hawks into the top 4.

Mainly he's just clearly a dickhead

Good on him for his record but he's not won a final since 2015 and not been relevant since 2016.

Would disagree to say he wasn't relevant straight after a 3peat. Halfway through 2019 is probably fair. That's when I first thought a change might be needed. He became way too obsessed about suggesting things of how he envisioned the game, like when he had the coffee catchup with Gil. Was very last years of Sheedy like.

He also lost a lot of respect from Hawks supporters for how he and his manager manipulated the media during his exit. It was revealed the whole "man of my word and integrity" was just a bit of a act.

Hawks supporters happily turned on Clarko once Mitchell came along. Now they defend Mitchell with the same energy that they used to use to defend Clarko.

Matthew Nicks

Chris Scott. I met him once and told him that he sucks. He responded with "Piss off dip$hit". Just really came across as an arseh*le.
Given Chris and brother, Brad, were known as the 'Kray brothers' in their playing days at Brisbane, I don't believe this story unless bottomboy was feeling sorry for himself and looking to be punished.

Listening to Simon Goodwin speak is like being in a 2000s business meeting. When he doesn't know something, it's because he doesn't "have line of sight". Be so easy to play Bullsh!t Bingo when he's talking.

Craig McRae, Adam Kingsley and John Longmire seem like genuinely good people looking from the outside.

I went with Clarkson. He's a flog.

Geelong supporters turned on Chris Scott for not delivering any finals results for a decade and Bomber for becoming an assistant to Essendon after saying he wanted to step away. I wouldn't act all high and mighty.

The issue with Thompson was somewhat more based around the public pressure bordering on criticism he made toward Gary Ablett Jr and questioning his loyalty regarding the potential GCS move and all the while he was planning to leave anyway, ultimately to end up at another club himself.

You know the old saying "Hate is too strong a word"? Well in my case, it isn't strong enough.

Same. His stubborness drives me insane.

He put himself above the club on the way out with how he agitated for a payout.
This, after years of continually giving lip service to how he was “a temporary custodian of the club, who needs to leave it in a better state then when he found it”.
On top of the way he had us playing, it left a bad taste in quite a few mouths.

Don't agree with you too often, but this is absolutely spot on 👍

Let's not forget how the best Sydney team in history finished on top of the ladder in 2014 with 17 wins and 145%, smashed Freo and North in the lead up finals... but the Swans were then embarrassed by Hawthorn on Grand Final day, losing by 10 goals (greatest losing margin ever by the top team in a Grand Final)

I'm sure this would have no bearing whatsoever on your hatred of Clarkson.

It was mainly because he got lucky having Hodge/Mitchell/Lewis as defacto coaches... :D
2014 one of my favourite premierships to rewatch. Most neutrals probably didn’t enjoy it because no close finish, but I thought the clinical way the hawks just took Sydney apart throughout the match was pretty mind blowing. Hawks had an incredible core of great players, and very good players across the park, but you don’t win like that without an excellent coach
