Which team out of Adelaide, North and Hawthorn has the better youth? Part 2

60% feels excessive.

Saturday was probably our worst performance since 2021. Our effort was incredibly poor. I don’t think though it suggests a big gap in quality between the two sides. I think it just shows in footy that if you’re not up for it and the other team is hungrier and willing to work then you will get exposed. I think the fact that we were still able to score 80 points from 41 entries shows that we weren’t completely outclassed, just out worked. I also really rate Sam Mitchell as a coach, he is clearly finding a way to work around Hawthorn’s weaknesses. The way the forward line is working at the moment without Lewis or another genuine key forward is really impressive.

However, and I said this before the game so it’s not just because we lost, Saturday was never going to be a legitimate reflection of where our youth is at.

We had Rankine, Thilthorpe, Murray, Worrell who are four of our most important young players out.

It looked like a typical interstate performance from the crows. 10 straight losses at the MCG

How are teams rated favourites in fixtures they rarely win?

It’s a consistent trend that Nicks over-values players who he perceives are “hard workers” and is far too quick to drop players with talent (like Curtin or Pedlar) after a poor game or two.

It’s why a player like Dowling still hasn’t been selected despite being consistently in our best in the reserves.
Crouch's injury should at least force Nicks' hand to push some younger players through the middle

From the weekend I’ll name who would and wouldn’t play for Hawthorn if a chance to be named:

Would - Rachele, Soligo, Michalanney, Dawson, Fogarty. (Rankine, Murray would too but out of the side)

The rest wouldn’t. Some are close like I don’t mind Cook but extremely raw, Nankervis is a solid defender.

This is somewhat irrelevant to youth but with hawthorn humming along right now it’s quite obvious.

Also didn’t pick Tex because he played like 🗑️

B: Scrimshaw - Frost - Michalanney
HB: Sicily - Weddle - Amon
C: Jiath - Day - D’Ambrosio
HF: Moore - Chol - MacDonald
F: Ginnivan - Dear - Fogarty
FOL: Reeves - Dawson - Newcombe
INT: Rachele, Soligo, Worpel, Impey, Nash

From just this game btw so 60% isn’t excessive, generally speaking fully fit there’s a few more, and also recency bias through performance. Then changing out players who aren’t youth, is a differing discussion.

Very keen to hear the opinion of those that fought tooth and nail with SYL and I re Adelaide’s midfield. We heard over and over Laird and Crouch would be moved sideways once the young brigade was ready.

I was smashed for suggesting Rachele and Pedlar were not going to figure in Adelaide’s 2024 midfield due to their inability to build any sort of tank.
Pedlar a mile off it still… (a shoulder doesn’t limit your ability to work so injury is not an acceptable defence) and is struggling in a woeful SANFL Adelaide.
Rachele not trusted for midfield minutes despite injury except when an oppo is being thrashed. He has no 2 way engine.
They are both 80/20 forwards/mids. Always have been. Always will be. At a stretch it may get to 65/35.

So Kane and Mr Mystery… how’s that working for you? Still claim I didn’t watch enough or hard enough?

If you like this guy, you should watch "The Simpsons". He reminds me of the characters from there.

Back to the topic of the thread, I would have to say North Melbourne at this stage.

Well it could have been Adelaide but it's unlikely under Nicks.

What is it with the Crows and consistently sucking out the talent and natural flair of players for the last 15 years? The most inoffensive vanilla AFL team.
