Whilst right now it looks pretty bleak, I don't agree with this moving forward because north have been loading up with top end youngsters and are on track to add a few more (maybe trade in a good player as they have some good draft capital)..if you look at the raw talent, its there and more will be coming in, they just need to now get games into them and Clarkson needs to make sure he sets a game plan up that will stand up and that the youngsters can buy into.

Putting my neck out on a limb here but I could see north really turning it around in the next 1 -2 seasons and pushing for finals then when they get good games into the kids
North still have the most young talent. They'll get more this year too.
Sheezel, Wardlaw, George was a fantastic draft.

Hawks need a couple of marking forwards.

Crows still need elite mids, like I've said numerous times.

Poll is still correct to my eyes.

Can clarko afford to clean out? He brought in mature players to push up the table

Retiring this year or next

Hall
Cunners
Goldy
Ziebell
Shiels
Greenwood

Candidates to be Delisted this year

Mahoney
Turner
Young
Bonar
Dawson
Perez
Howe
Edwards
Spicer

That’s 15 players over the next 2 years without breaking a sweat

Agree and happy with most of those delistings. Only one I can see hanging on, (even if it's a re-rookie contract), would be Spicer, and that's pending he continues to show growth/improvement like he did last week. Young is the other I wouldn't totally rule out.

Edwards was so highly rated going into that MSD. What happened?

That's absolutely Melbourne-esque.

Plus, a lot of them are at North until '24-25. It's going to take a good couple of years to clean out that mess, if they ever do under Clarko.

JZ and Goldy have been among your best all year.

It's going to be dire if they retire but not sure if Goldy has much more left to give. Will be a North Melbourne legend when he hangs up the boots if he isn't already.

Hilarious ……..

Amazingly his best game to at I’ve seen at vfl level was his first one just after getting drafted while still at school.

He’s got worse everytime I’ve seen him since
Sorry but it’s funny asf with how north fans carried on about him being the second coining of Jesus Christ himself.. rated higher than Mitch Lewis by a particular someone I won’t name

He’ll definitely play on next year. But the club will prioritise Xerri.

And probably look to see if they can play Comben and CCJ alongside him.

But goldy is still playing bloody good football and really taking poor rucks to the cleaners this year.

I very much doubt he had any illusions about pushing up the table with Tucker, Shiels & Howe ffs. I’m not sure why they picked Howe but Tucker looked more capable at Freo than he has at North and Shiels has obvious leadership and toughness credentials (hence hanging around Hawthorn in 2022 despite being well past a top 8 contender player by 2021).

Logue makes sense for the long haul.

It’d be like saying Hawks are trying to push up the table they’ve brought in Amon & Greene.

I’m still of the opinion by sheer weight of numbers North have the highest rated youth overall - it’s hard to say “better” because there’s so many factors coming into it.

But already we’re seeing elements of Hawthorn develop players rated down the order. Let’s say there’s no applause for a kid taken in the first 2 rounds being good.
Taking into account that big men take time so more leeway for “youth” rating there:
Hawks have taken Newcombe via MSD, Lewis 76, Reeves PSS, Brockman 46, Jiath cat B rookie, Moore 67 (and re-rookied), Nash rookie.
They’ve also given Mitchell a 2nd chance as a rookie.

North have Larkey 73, Xerri 72, Zurhaar rookie draft as our main 3 “Smokeys”.

Just take a look at Hawks and Richmond of the 2010s - sure got a lot of high picks both clubs did, but a LOT of players through late picks, rookie picks, value trades.

It’s all well and good to compare LDU, Sheezel, Wardlaw to other top picks but ultimately Hawthorn have shown they have a system that allows players to develop properly.

Curtis Taylor looked promising 1.5 seasons ago. Bailey Scott’s game on the weekend was probably his 2nd best - his best being his debut, where’s the improvement? We haven’t developed a quality small forward since Lindsay Thomas. And our back flankers (hoping that Sheezel doesn’t stay there) have been filled with stopgaps for a decade (Pittard, Williams, McDonald into Hall, Ziebell).

Adelaide have the star power but still need to develop a midfield. Don’t believe in them as much as Hawthorn to get it done. But still you can’t look at a list that at any stage can put Fogarty, Thilthorpe, Rankine & Rachele as their forward line and think they have a bad list.

Peak delusion.

You have 15 blokes you could easily delist. We will struggle to cut 5!

Crows have got their cake in the oven.

Hawks have got the ingredients. Just need to find the cream.

North are still crawling out of bed after a bender trying to piece together what happened last night.

Hawks fans talking about North losing a gun ruckman like they can't find a capable replacement.

Look at you own list!
