They were talking about mcguiness attempting to lock down sheezel the way he has locked down daicos the last three games between Collingwood and Hawthorn (one was a pre season game).

Sheezel seems like the sort of player finn has done well on previously. Would be a great match up I think.
Those stats I mentioned were a combination of Sheez and Wardlaw. They weren't just Sheez.

So sure, they can try locking down Sheez, only for Wardlaw to do damage.

If I were Mitchell I would put finn on sheezel as a hard tag and have Nash loosely run with LDU. But if wardlaw is hurting us inside more than LDU (or if say simpkin is having a blinder) I would move Nash across.

I don't think Finn does as well matching up on the inside beasts.

So who do you put on Thomas when Wardlaw take's Nash's attention?

Is Thomas in the forward line? If he is in good form, hardwick. Poor form then whoever. He is pretty inconsistent. If he isn't in the forward line then no set match up.

North haven't really worried me for a very long time though.

Yeah I get it. I felt like that about Hawthorn in 2006.

Thomas averages just under 20 and goals over the last few years if you don't count 2022, which was a bit of a shitfight. If he's put that behind him then he won't be inconsistent much in future.

15 disposals per game and 0.8 goals per game just seems like an ordinary half forward to me. But it is his off field exploits worry me far more than anything he has ever done on the field.

Comparing yourself to Hawthorn is fairly bold, if I may say so.

True. We're not like Hawthorn.

We don't bleed the poor with pokie machines on the other side of town or select some of the shittiest people in Australia to be our club president. We've also had a long productive and respectful relationship with our indigenous players.

I guess the only similarity is that we've both had periods where we've dominated and periods where we're shit. Youse may have had more but then you're club is predatory and a bit of a shit citizen so swings and roundabouts i guess.

Your analysis of Thomas is poor tho. He'll be a top ten talent in the comp if he has a good pre season and applies himself.

The ultimate youth thread

2022 - hawks vs North sh*t fight
2023 - hawks vs Adelaide sh*t fight
2024 - Adelaide vs North sh*t fight?

Then we can close it right?

Or at least delete the votes and start again so all those people who embarrassed themselves by voting North Melbourne can fix their vote.

Who's mcguiness?

I know the hawks are also-rans but have some faith. You won't be a 3 win team next year.

Rising Star Winner? North
Best First Year Player? North
Most possessions ever by a first year player? North
Most clearances by a debutant after 3 games? North

Thread can be closed.
Suiting up for another off-season of bluster and BS, I see.

Get your fill before Round 1, 2024.

You love it. You get to retort with “lol norf, shit youf” something about Will Day and Newcombe and whatever else. Quality bants!

Average age of each club, for the top 10 players in the coaches votes this year:

Crows 27.4
Hawks 25.4
North 24.8

So does this mean north have the best youth? 😉
Probably not hey, just that our young players are better than our shit truck veterans 🤷‍♂️

I don’t even need to do that really.

Just have to wait long enough for psicosis to build up enough courage to return here.

The crows poster earlier did appear to show that if the youth available at time of thread start and still contributing that north had the best youth (well youth doing most of the work compared to crows and hawks)

It literally means your top 10 contributors are an average of .6 years younger than ours.

Which is a pretty sketchy stat given a couple of older/senior age players can throw those numbers out of whack fairly easily.

A better stat would be how many players 24 or younger are actually on the list.

Or how old your starting 22 average age has been etc.

I've mentioned this elsewhere but the current Adelaide, Hawthorn and North sides remind me of the Port, Bulldogs and Melbourne sides from a decade ago.

2023 Adelaide = 2013 Port.
Best bet for the short term but I can see this Crows side peaking at semi/preliminary final appearances much like that Port side.
Nicks reminds me of Hinkley as a coach too in that he's good but not great.

2023 Hawthorn = 2013 Bulldogs.
Best bet for the first side to win a flag from this trio and you can see the meat and potatoes players are in place.
I can see them winning a flag in the next five years but much like the Bulldogs they won't become a dynasty team.

2023 North = 2013 Melbourne.
Absolute basket case of a club.
David Noble is their Mark Neeld.
Jason Horne-Francis is their Tom Scully.
Alastair Clarkson is their Paul Roos.
I can't see success for them in the short or medium term, but long term I can see them becoming a potential dynasty team much like the Melbourne team that's become a potential dynasty team.
North are stockpiling top end talent much like Melbourne did and if they nail their top draft picks this year, then look out.
You are accurate about North Melbourne.

I look at that 2013 demons playing squad. It was bad but not as bad as it was. Playing squad was either lazy or shot with confidence or not fit enough or mixture of all 3.

So Crouch signing on for another 2. Don't have faith that their young players can step into the middle anytime soon?

We're in it for a flag now. Kids are for loser clubs and all that.
