Midfield looks fairly average

Forwards look good

Eh, we have Dawson for the next five years and beyond that is too far to have any real feel on what is going to happen.

Yep. Not one player under 22.
Good call SYL.

Our selectors tend to favour mediocre experience ahead of trusting young talent. Plus, we have a stupid voting system that Nix created. Votes are awarded based upon the degree in which the player executed their role. Game impact has no relevance.

Only on bigfooty is being younger better.
You need a mix of experience and quality youngsters to win a flag.
It's why Hawks and North will take time.
We are closer by virtue of having decent players in that 25-27 range.

Who will be the best 24 and younger group? Time will tell.
But I'd be worried by the lack of quality key position players if I was a North fan. Midfield alone won't win a flag.

We actually have fewer players in the 25-27 range than Hawthorn or North Melbourne. Our edge in performance last year came from our veterans performing at a high level. There can be no guarantee Tex has another year like last and he was a massive part of us doing as well as we did.

Players between 25-27
Adelaide

Murphy
Milera
Himmelberg
Dawson
Keays
Hinge

Hawthorn

Worpel
Morrison
Reeves
Lewis
Scrimshaw
Nash
Meek
Hardwick
Chol

North Melbourne

Stephenson
Free
Dawson
Fisher
Larkey
Zurhaar
Logue
Simpkin
Tucker

Sleevo 24
The rest of them 25

Currently only have 5 players 26 and older on our list (tucker, McDonald, corr, greenwood and shiels) arguably only corr and lmac will be in our best 22

With respect to Larkey, Simpkin and Zurhaar, Worpel and Lewis.. Dawson, Hinge, Keays, Milera have had a greater overall impact.

Fair bit of disrespect there to Nash who finished 3rd in the B&F and Hardwick. Add in Reeves who is a solid starting ruck

Keays and Mileria are battlers.

Youth is an exercise in building hope and really, if you're a North supporter - that's all you've got. They're the ones that are staring down a failed rebuild at the moment.

Like with Adelaide, you can see a pathway with their list to get to a genuine contender. Hawthorn are probably one-two years away from that as they get an working identity bedded down.

Keays and Mileria are battlers.

Keays is spot on, but Milera? Battler? You're on the wrong extreme of that spectrum.

Very few players in the whole league had more impact than larkey in 2023.

Anyone claiming otherwise is hopelessly biased.

Dawson from the Crows was very influential and got a lot of Brownlow votes. Very fine player, almost knocking on the top 10 players in the league list

Just pipped Newcombe in Brownlow votes and coaches votes actually.

Mustn't be a huge gap between top 10 players in the league and overrated midfielders who aren't A graders by your logic?

I absolutely love Jordan Dawson as a player by the way. Went to the next level after changing clubs.

Okay I might have undersold Newcombe a bit :) (still prefer Warner though at Carlton)

That goal Dawson kicked after the siren to sink Port Adelaide in the showdown to win the game for the Crows last year was absolutely epic.

That was the moment I knew be would be a amazing recruit for the AFC

Don't worry, almost everyone is under-rating Newcombe. You certainly aren't alone.

His massive performances at Sydney any time he pushed into the midfield should have made it obvious for you.

Meh… again one of the many issues with the premise of this thread is the arbitrary cut-off of youth being whatever suits the narrative. Bump that cut-off up a single year suddenly Adelaide and Hawthorn have the same quantity of “youth” in their top 10 (two).

Yep. The age cut-offs are so arbitrary, and they never seem to take into account how age is relative to position. I see Reeves (25) and Lewis (25) as youth but not James worpel (24) because I expect mids to mature faster.

Fair bit of disrespect there to Nash who finished 3rd in the B&F and Hardwick. Add in Reeves who is a solid starting ruck

And Scrimshaw and Morrison who have had the equal in careers as Keays and Milera. Dawson is a gun (Sydney knew) and Hinge is a promising player only just finding his feet. Hawthorn and North have a stronger group than Adelaide aged 25-27

Further to above to compare
Hawks 9 over 26 years of age
North 5 over 26
Crows 11 over 26
