We just got Brett EDDY!!!!!!!!!!! so excuse me for not caring about a now invalid opinion. There's also an extremely large amount of untrue bullshit in this and I'm too ecstatic to care right now so I will reply at a later period.

Also, Port now have Brett Eddy so feel free to change your votes folks.

Everything I wrote there is flat out correct.

That Port Adelaide fans refuse to acknowledge it despite demonstrable behaviour from your club makes them delusional.

Nearly 200 votes and not a single one to the Demons - the only team without one.

Years of irrelevance manifest, or genuinely looking the goods for the future?

Seriously which potatoes voted the Dogs and GWS?

Quite clearly looking good for the future.

Depends what you mean by "going forward." If you isolate 2017 our list looks really ordinary. Can't see us threatening for the finals at all. But if "going forward" means building over the next 3-5 years then I think we're OK. The young players all look pretty handy and will only get better over time.

... how much of a shambles Carlton's list is. Aside from Cripps and Weitering there aint much.

A bit harsh on Docherty there. Stiff to miss the All Australian team after making the squad.

Marchbank looks a talent. Byrne also. Doc has shown he can play to an AA level. Weitering has the potential to be very good. Plowman had some decent form off a nothing preseason. Midfield has a gun in Cripps and also Gibbs will be around for a few years yet. SPS and Pickett displayed elite junior talent but have no exposed senior form. Jack Silvagni has obvious talent; Curnow too, but who knows how that will develop. McKay looks prospective, but a complete unknown at this point, as with many other young players on Carlton's list.

Certainly, not as bare as you've painted it, but for sure not enough exposed form to say Carlton's list is in a good place right now. But I guess that's the objective here ... not to spot where the list is at this minute, but to try and figure out where its trajectory will take them.

Haha the kangas have been told for the last 5 years we have no A grade talent yet have made the last 3 finals series. youse say the old blokes carried us through our first 9 games yet besides waite and probably higgins the rest played 95% of the year! wright mcdonald jacobs wood anderson all missed way more games then any veteran who wont be playing next year. if higgins and waite can stay fit as with turner and garner(both who have played good finals games) the core of our team is still there. chuck in hrovat marley williams potentially a draft pick from this year with the added development of wagner clarke and hopefully some other draftees again we are not in that bad of shape! cunnington swallow goldstein had average years and if they get back to there best we will be ok

Yeah I've refrained from voting for this reason alone

If you're talking 2017-2018 then there's quite a few teams with lists you might not want to have

But if you're talking 2019 and beyond then there are probably less that you might not want as there are so many unknowns and so many players with huge upsides that *could* smash their potentials.

Did not, did not take a lot of interest at the dead rubber last round games. I am sure he was as impressive as Watson tearing Essendon apart a year earlier in another dead rubber game. Equate these type of games as not much more value than a pre-season practice game but often some are fooled to take more from such games. I knew Watson was a hack and needed de-listing. Others got sucked in and thought he should stay.
He got de-listed after the next season. Not saying same will happen to Langford, but do not get too excited about performances in dead rubber games.
If Carlton treated a game against arch rival Essendon as a dead rubber their list is clearly the the list I'd prefer least moving forward and is a perfect example of the depths to which they have sunk. Essendon humiliated Carlton twice this year which tells me their list is far superior.

Sorry if I did not word the initial post too well but I am sort of referring to hope. Hope is what drives a lot of football fans, hope that their team is working towards something. Different supporter bases have different kinds of hope. Myself for instance I hope the Swans can win the flag in 2017 but a Carlton fan would not have that as realistically we all know, even Carlton fans that they are not going to win the flag in 2017, so what makes a Carlton fan hopeful about their team. I think if I were a Carlton fan I would be hopeful about some of the younger players coming through, guys like Weitering and Cripps and if I were a Carlton fan I would be hopeful that my teams list is improving and that in a few years time the Blues might be contenders, or at the very least pushing for finals again.

This thread was sort of about lists that do not provide hope for their supporter bases, or which lists would give their supporters the least about of hope in terms of imagining their team contending for the flag in the somewhat near future. It is why I picked North Melbourne as they are not pushing for a flag so there is no hope there, they don't have many A grade players to keep their supporters excited and they also do not have any real youth coming through so they can't hope that their list will be getting better in the somewhat near future. Their list is sort of stuck in no mans land, and it is really hard to imagine North getting out of that position easily. Their list does not provide a lot of hope for the near future.

I hope that makes more sense.

Carlton and Essendon played two very ordinary games in 2016.
We won one ,they won one.
You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

I noticed this yesterday. I am amazed. People actually realise now they have a wonderful batch of youngsters to build a side from for next decade.

I voted Collingwood but I also struggle to see many positives with Norths list, Richmond have struggled to win without Deligo and now he is gone, not sure Pestia is as good at this stage so they may slide a little.

I think the smokey this year might be Carlton, if they can find someone to kick 40 goals, they might finally come good and play finals but they will be up against the Dees, Saints, the Bombers and several others for spots from 7th down to 12th.
