Just bought the entire Benny Hill boxset on DVD. Was visiting my elderly mum last night and she really enjoyed a couple of episodes.

Boy oh Boy the shenanigans on that show definitely wouldn't fly today but tell you what, it's definitely more hilarious and entertaining than most of the post Woke/Cancel Culture produced tV comedies (say post 2020 and beyond) made today.

The skit where Benny Hill was painted up as yellow face portraying Chairman Mao is no doubt racist and definitely offensive by modern standards, yet it had me literally crying tears with laughter.

I am sorry but I really love distasteful/politically incorrect comedies, especially those from a vintage/bygone era.

Arguably the most offensive program ever made...but funny as hell.

My first rewatch after about 10 years. I love Woody and Mcho.. Mach.. mconohy and enjoy the tension. I can’t remember how it ends but enjoying the journey after 3 episodes

Presumed Innocent was decent (as someone who doesn’t rate the Pakula film and found this a significant improvement). Def ATV+ rec.

The Perfect Couple on NF was fine, maybe takes an ep or so to get on board with it but found it amusing and preferred it to a lot of that recent 2022 wave of whodunits. Solid weekend family binge.

Sherwood S1 was excellent. As much as I enjoy modern Aussie drama, I felt a distinct absence of something like Sherwood still tackling post-industrial festering picket line resentments in a mining town plus a dash of Robin Hood folklore and Thatcherite subterfuge. Prestige name cast with all the reliable trusted thespians. Keen for S2 now, and will explore more James Graham work after this.

Marvelous Mrs Maisel

Through S3 and still no dip which is quite incredible. The Shy Baldwin season was fun and refreshing, some more fresh settings like Vegas, Florida, the Apollo, Rose’s brief Oklahoma visit, staying with Moishe & Shirley (Eee-than!!! Bye Bye Birdy, the goat, 4:30am, etc.), the whole Miss Julie plotline (Jane Lynch is a joy in this), Joel’s new club, Jason Alexander’s beach kiosk playwright and with less Gaslight I felt it was brilliant how they have Jackie moving into Susie’s place given she is often on the road.

For S4 hopefully a little more actual Midge comedy content and development (now free from opening) and Susie is probably overdue a love interest. They really need to get past this endless 1960 as well, noticed a few goofs. Moving into the pandemic era now and approaching the final season so I’m intrigued how long it can maintain this quality standard.

On Maisel I think they do a great job with adapting and maintaining the quality so I’ll be curious to see how you see it. Keep on posting

Watching Emperor of Ocean Park.
Got slammed by the critics as slow, poor script, too much time jumping, etc.
I'm 6 eps in and finding it quite good except for the whingeing music at times.

24 season re-watch complete after 53 days............
204 episodes + a tv movie - 3.84 episodes a day in that time.... while there were brief breaks in between. I traditionally get through it within 7.5 weeks, bit slack this year . Will see how I go, temptation might get to me, but I might shelve the series for a year or 2.

Might pick up another series to watch, or I might slum it and catch up on movies. But I may do another Seinfeld marathon in November.

Finally finished the final season of Superstore. It was pretty good and they stuck the landing. All you can ask for, really.

Watching the new season of Fraiser, couple of average episodes but a couple of crackers as well. It manages to be both broad comedy and a little bit intellectual at the same time, balances it will.

Also started watching Poker Face, Rian Johnson murder mystery on Stan starring Natasha Lyonne, who I have now only seen in two things and has been brilliant in both. Each episode is a standalone mystery, they show you the murderer in the cold open, it's then a case of watching her figure it out. Great stuff.

Watching the new season of Fraiser, couple of average episodes but a couple of crackers as well. It manages to be both broad comedy and a little bit intellectual at the same time, balances it will.

I made it about three episodes into the Frasier revival before I gave up. I found it desperately unfunny, poorly written and badly missing the comic timing of David Hyde Pierce, the nephew was a very feeble attempt at a replacement. Nicholas Lyndhurst is a great actor but seemed to be phoning it in.

Is the second season worth persevering for?

wife is watching season 8 of house. i had emotionally jumped off about 3 seasons ago, too much of a good thing for me and the last couple of seasons just... nah. if it hadn't already jumped the shark by the season 7 finale which i happened to watch, it was then. they had budget issues which didn't help but what i'm hearing and seeing feels very stale.

wife: "i'm pushing through. you can tell it's the last season"

i'm overhearing some of it. it's like when you sit down, turn on the tv and home and away is on, and you think to yourself "why is so much of this show dedicated to the dramas of children"

I'd suggest probably not, if you didn't like the first season, but then again it's only 10 episodes long and 25 minutes each so it's hardly a slog. It took some getting used to in the first season because it has adopted an anachronistic style that has been mocked for the last 20 years or so. But once I got into the rhythm of its 90s stylings, I really started to enjoy it. I agree the nephew is the one character that doesn't really land but Lyndhurst grows on you, as does the son Freddy and professor Olivia. The episodes are largely self-contained, I'd say watch the Cyranno episode from season 2, it was hilarious, if you like that, give the rest of it a crack.

4 episodes in a sitting is basically 2 hours 40 minutes. Which is easily done.

Just finished season 1 of Condor (on MGM - free 7-day trial).

Really good first 9 episodes, a little in the mould of a lesser quality Homeland.

Then along comes Ep 10 to not only jump the shark, but also Arthur Fonzarelli over the entire aquarium. Laughably bad finish.

RFDS on 7plus. I loved S1 in 2021 and watched it live on FTA. S2 was released last year but I binged both seasons as I recovered and it was amazing, with S2 being even better than S1. The perfect blend of drama, humour and realism. Highly recommended.
