I'm surprised by Keeffe, tbh. I thought it was weird they played him forward all year and given our lack of key backs, was also surprised he wasn't given a gig down there. I mean, what happens when Reid and Dunn get injured?

Goldsack, Scharenberg, McClarty.

Moore, Howe, Langdon at a stretch.

I suspect it was put to him that he would need to reinvent himself as a forward to hold his place on the list. That's a guess but it's as good as anyone else's :)
They gave him the whole year to show something down there & he didn't grab his chance. I'm sure if another club give him a lifeline he will be playing defence.
Personally I think he is a bit slow & has almost no leap. Therefore not a relief ruck option either.

Kefffe in my view was always given the opportunities as to his incredible height and athletic ability.
But the death knell for him, in my view, was how strong Dunn has come on, and at a guess McLarty would now be ahead of him in the pecking order and depth.

I could see a club take him in the rookie draft late as back up.

After he came back from his knee reco, he was never the same
He was tried in Defence, in the Ruck and Forward....failed at all them.
After that he was a certainty to be delisted

Look how many of our last premiership side came off the rookie list

Look at how much money we were spending on talent identification and development back then.

How the F has Blair not been delisted

How do you know he hasnt or wont?

He'll probably be last man delisted or last man retained, depending upon who we trade/draft .

Hes certaily good enough quality to stay on the list for depth for another season so theres no rush to stick a fork in him at the first list lodgement stage of the process.

It's fair to say that the doping scandal actually extended his career on the Collingwood list. I agree that he was likely to be discarded after the reco.

Shame as he actually wasn't too bad in defence pre-injury. For all his faults he disposal was quite good for a big man.

Good luck Keefe - I reckon St Kilda might be knocking on your door for a rookie spot

Can't run, physically weak = very bad in modern game especially if position is defender.

The silver lining is that if oxley plays regularly in 2018 it will mean we'll have a top 4 pick in a super draft.

Shaz or Oxley?

They're pretty similar in my opinion. Shaz's senior form has been more consistent, but hasn't reached the same heights as Oxley. Oxley has played some excellent games as well as some absolute shockers.

Weird year, right now it looks like

Off: White Keeffe Schade McCarthy Mackie

On: 6 36 54 59

Which would mean all our rookies would come from players currently at the club

Oxley played one good game and that had as much to do with the oppositions poor coaching as it did his ability. The game has changed a lot since then and these days he's a defensive liability who doesn't offer much on the rebound other than being a clean kick.

Scharenberg has much stronger build, is better in traffic and a better intercept mark. He's also 3 years younger and has the excuse of a torrid run with injuries. Basically he just starting his career in 2017. What's Oxley's excuse?

Further, Imo there's also scope for Scarenberg to play inside midfield down the track whereas 2017 demonstrated once and for all that Oxley can only play half back and even in that spot he's not AFL quality imo.

I'm confident the club knows something we don't. My guess is that we are looking at drafting / trading in a kpp or 2 and wouldn't be surprised to see McClarty debut next year and probably more than 1 game

Get the f**k out, really?
So BigFooty is not where everything about Collingwood is known? Who'd have guessed that?

I see the dumping of Shadey, Keeffey and McCarth-ey* as clearing the decks of Fringe dwelling KPP's to keep our options wide open in both drafts (shallow draft often equals later round and rookie bargains to be had I guess?).

*keeping up the trend-ey thing we had going there...

Still it wouldn't surprise me at all if we picked one of them at least back up again in the rookie draft - if we get through both drafts and Ned isn't happy with our KPD stocks.

I kinda feel for our younger KPD's actually - how I the hell are they supposed to get any real development into then with no one really to set an example on field (let's be honest we haven't had a decent KPD for a while now) and a bloody midfielder coaching the defensive group off-field?

Subtle nuances such as touch, blocking, body work and timing in one-to-one contests aren't going to develop magically on their own if you don't have someone who knows what they're doing on a KPF teaching them...

No, no he wasn't.

How in the hell people forget the epic on-field meltdowns he was having in games towards the back end of his last season in 2014 is beyond me.

He was cooked back then I reckon but I was happy to give him a second chance. If he wasn't up to task and couldn't find it in himself to step up this year when we clearly had issues stopping any key forward for pretty much the entire season then it doesn't looks like he is ever going to at AFL level.

He might make a solid player at NEAFL level I guess?

Off: Mackie Schade White Keeffe McCarthy

On: 18 38 56 61 80 *adjusted for FA compo*

Draft: Brander Clavarino Brown Murray Paton

I can't have Paton at 80 can I? We have to go from a list of 45 to 44 if Cox is upgraded off the International Rookie list yeah?
