Ok - 2010 is done and dusted, so lets get positive and ask a few hard questions bout the list and try to get some productive discussions going:

Obviosuly AKKA, Johnno, Bald Headed Eagle are gone

but who else goes? Who gets a repreve?

Who is pissed off and wants to go ? who is trade bait?

Obviously we cant get rid of everyone, but below is a few names in question

Players in question are Harbrow, Tiller, Hahn, Tim Callan, Everitt, Josh Hill, Markovic, Stack

people have even considered GIA and Boyd or Hargrave as trade bait???

Where do we go from here to try and take the next step?

Yr thoughts?

I think we focus on development rather than trading. If we trade, we only trade for young talent, no old blokes.

Sadly, Hahn should retire. I hope he sees it that way.
Tiller has to go.
Hill and Stack need one more year, but only one if they don't improve.
Callan is a handy back-up. Keep.
Everitt stays, unless he wants out and a trade can be done. Everitt for Tambling? It may pay off.
Minson must be kept unless Adelaide offer something special, which they wont'.
Throw the house at Harbrow, we need him. But I don't think we have a chance in hell of keeping him.

Trading Boyd would be like trading away our heart and soul. This bloke is our highest favorite for the brownlow. Sure we're disappointed but keep it real.

Hahn was fantastic in the first half tonight. He's got football left in him. He's had an ordinary season but I wouldn't give up on him yet.

Sorry but unless it rains every week he needs to go. He is way way way to slow to stay. You can add Gia, and Cross to the to slow list as well. As Eagle, Johno, and Aker are slow but gone no need to mention them. Sadly I also think Boyd, Hargrave, and Gilbee are slowing as well.

Johnno, Eagle, harbrow, Callan, Markovic gone. Hill likely to head back to WA. Hahn likely to get one more year.

Fair turnover of players...yeah?

yeah, we cant get rid of everyone ey, so there has to be some kind of compromise

as a general rule, how many players do you turn over in a season including de listings, retirements etc?

Yeah, it's a long shot. But we do need outside runners. I can't tell you how glad I am we got Griffin in that Draft rather than Tambling though. :thumbsu:

the way its looking i think i would take griff over franklin too

yes, they got the flag in 2008, but i think griff has turned the corner this year, where franklin is not dominating like the year they won the flag

I dunno, I fear for Hahn's future. Tonight re-enforced the old "If you cant kick you cant play" theory. He is so hard at the ball but when he has a clear disposal he just butchers it.

That sort of thing just cant go on, and there's no magic cure for it over the summer.

So long Mitch, you're a champ but sorry.

I love Griff to death. And agree that from here on in he might be more valuable than Franklin.

But if we'd picked Franklin, in 2008 that flag might have been ours.

I've been thinkng the same wian. Two years ago Franklin looked like a steal but Griffen is really making an impact every week. Meanwhile Franklin is still very good but not as dominant as 2008.

2010 was Griff's best year by far and if he keeps up that form and stays injury free he would be a fair chance of AA honours.

Big chance for the Sutton Medal this year too.

Eagle, Aker, Johnno are givens.

Harbrow is assumed.

Personally I'd lose Hahn. I agree he did some good things tonight. Good - I'm glad he could go out on a decent note. But let's not be fooled by that.

I really can't see him offering a lot next year. He was only in the 22 this finals series because of injuries. Next year he will be older and slower again.

Hahn has been an excellent servant to this club. I have enjoyed watching him for years. But his time has come.

Apart from that 5 I really can't see us being able to replace too many more players. Maybe Boumann or Tiller. I haven't been watching Willy so i don't know who the real under-performers are there. But i doubt we could afford to lose more than 6 players in total.

Am I wrong in thinking we have a number of talented father son pickups in the next few years?

- Tom Liberatore

- Mitch Wallis

- Lachlan Hunter - Is Hunter a fast, skilled midfielder?

- Tim Templeton? Forward?

I'd give Boumann one more year. I've seen signs from him this year but he needs to be whacked around the ears and told to be tougher out there.

Tiller is gone, He's been on the list for ages and just doesn't seem to be doing anything.

Markovic may go but if he does, we'd best replace him with a mature bodied full back. Now, who could this be that I allude to?

Faulks? Don't know.

I have a feeling the club won't be recruiting from VFL

Eade has already said we'll be active in trade week (tonight's interview) so I'm thinking some players will be dangled (eg Everitt, Hill, maybe Stack). Not sure who he has in mind to recruit but please, please don't get a mediocre cast-off from another AFL club.

Faulks is unlikely to be available by pick 293 or whatever our first pick after father/sons is. The success of Barlow, Pods etc will have alerted all 17 clubs that there are some real gems to be found in the VFL. So VFL ranks will be well and truly picked over, especially as Gold Coast have already taken some of the cream of this year's crop as 17yos last year.

For me, it comes down to this.

Are they in our best 22? or will they improve to be in our best 22?

Hahn won't improve.
Gia won't improve.
Boyd won't improve.
Will Tiller improve?
Will Marcovic improve?
Will Callan improve?
etc.

Sure, you can't get rid of everyone, but what's the point of having someone on the list for no real purpose? I'd cut pretty deep this year, giving the benefit of the doubt to younger guys only due to the draft situation. Anyone 26+ and not in our best 22 as we see it at Rd 1, 2011. De-list. Anyone outside our best 22 in Rd 1, 2011 and there's no upside, delist.

Our current best 22 can't win a flag. It needs improving. 'Depth' players don't improve your best 22.

Wade said the same last year too... Only addition was hall.

As for everitt, hill and stack.... If that is the best we have to trade we will be coming out of trade period with peanuts and will go backwards

I hope this is carried through to the thoughts on who we keep. Panos seems to have similar knocks on him that Pods did in his time in the VFL. Not fast enough for AFL. One trick poney etc. If it's a good trick, keep him.

I'd rather see us elevate a few rookies and draft a few more speculative rookies than just keep list cloggers on.

Honestly, we need to go backwards and put time into our youth. We're at a point where it's been shown, 3 years on the trot, that our best 22 can't do the job (ok, injuries this year notwithstanding - but we were never in form so we still wouldn't have won it). We need to improve our best 22 by more than just 1 or 2 players. We need to make big changes IMO. Coming 4th again next year means nothing. Winning it in 3 years means everything.

Elevate who?

Hooper, yes... Panos probably deserves it... Noone else

And I agree.

However this isn't the time to rid ourselves of young players. All 3 of them have talent and the draft picks we would get in return would be rubbish, and even more rubbish considering the compromised drafts of the next few years
