Im glad some are finally seeing the lack of value from Hargrave.. Been nothing but a liability this year.

Give Everitt a spot like we have persisted with Eagleton, Hahn and Johnno..

Hill - send him home to WA if he wants to go

Gia - went missing in 2010

Gia was pretty crucial last weekend...

We don't have a replacement for hargrave... We need to start developing one for lake as well.

As for Hill, don't let him go for a dud like McKinley .. At least hill has potential...

I would have thought Grant might be a chance of being in our best 22 next year.

I would have thought Grant might be a chance of being in our best 22 next year.
Was about to say the same thing!

I think given our supreme lack of pace, we can't have Boyd & Cross in the same team anymore. Someone has to make way. And possibly can't have Reid in the same team either. The team is a bit too 'inside' now. We've gone the opposite way to what we were a few years back. Need to re-balance.

Well it's certainly going to interesting to see what we do this year as far as delistments and the draft/trade period.

Retiring.

BJ, Eages, retire of course. I thoughts Eages was great last night, ran really hard and gave it everything.

I think Hahn should retire also. Again he played ok last night, but he just seems slow these days and of course never highly skilled anyway. He's only 30 next year, so perhaps he'll stay on a year and I'm not sure of his contract status, but he looks done as an AFL player to me.

Form drop

We have so many players this year who dropped back a lot all at once. Guys that used to be able to kick can't anymore like Gilbee. Boyd this year has become the turnover king. Higgins was injured/ill all year, big will had that soy milk thing that stuffed his pre season. BJ the achilies, Aka never fired a shot and then they sacked him. Then when it mattered we lost Cooney as well.

Not sure what's wrong with Ryan Hargrave, but to me he looks like footy is not that important to him. He plays like a guy who's content with where he's at and lacks the intensity required in a final.

Gia, well...I think he's a player who has some terrific ability, but seems to drop out of games too much for my liking. Playing that small forward role can do that to a player of course. But where is he at, could he really be our skipper?

Game plan decision making

Why was it last night when Stkilda had numbers back on Hall that we couldn't find the loose man that must be there somewhere...4 on 1 means there has to be 3 players loose? All year we have played in spits and spurts. Effort has been there almost every game. We changed our style and seemed to lose that dare and dash. We lost confidence and our skills dropped and our decision making at times was beyond belief. This I think goes to the MC and that needs a review also.

Remaining List

I think that Tiller, Daniels and Callan will be delisted. Markovic looks a good player at VFL level, but too slow for AFL. Do they keep him as insurance? Maybe. But for me, I'd draft Faulks from Willi and have him as the insurance and develop him. He's only 22.

The tall developing defenders are Mulligan and Boumann. Both have some potential especially Boumann. I doubt we'd delist them.

Thorne, well he played about 10 mins of the first VFL game then did his knee. No idea really about him. But quick skilled small forwards/mids we need so he's the right type, not sure he's the right man.

Conclusion

Farewell and thanks for your great efforts: BJ, Eages, Hahn (all retired).

Gone Aka (sacked). Delisted (and thanks for being good club men): Tiller, Callan, Markovic, Daniels.

That gives us 7 spaces in the main list and 1 rookie spot.

Promote: Hooper, Moles, Panos (so now 4 rookie spots)

Draft: Wallis, Liberatore, Faulks, outside quick mid/forward x 1 and then 3 Rookie spots for outside/mids and tall defenders. We look high and low for these guys and some will be mature age.

Pressure for spots

Gilbee, Hargrave, Gia, Minson all need to have pressure on their spots. Roughead and Cordy will I hope combine at various times as the second rucks and Minnow will be back up.

Stack, Hill, Everitt, will need to step up to demand spots in the team. Wallis, Liber, Howard and Tutt will play AFL next year but we can't expect them to dominate. Sammy Reid will be pressing. Hoops will be. Jones should be CHF next year. I also expect improvement from Matt Panos.

I hope this is carried through to the thoughts on who we keep. Panos seems to have similar knocks on him that Pods did in his time in the VFL. Not fast enough for AFL. One trick poney etc. If it's a good trick, keep him.

I'd rather see us elevate a few rookies and draft a few more speculative rookies than just keep list cloggers on.

Yeah well Pods showed he's not much more than a flat track bully on Friday night.

Eade mentioned we would be active in trade and that Johnno and one or two others would retire

Off List -4
Johnno, Aker, Eagle, Harbrow

Add back Onto List +4
Libber, Wallis, Moles, Hooper

Maybe De-list (at least 3 of these)
Hahn, Tiller, Markovic, Mulligan, Thorne, Callan

Trade Possibilities
Hill, Everitt, Minson, Stack

Trade for
Small pacy forward (Jetta from Essendon)
Outside Midfielder with pace (The Shermanator) although I cant see us having the salary cap for him
Smaller Running Back ?

Woops! Thought I had him in. He's a cert.
Grant in for Hooper, Moles or Everitt.

Some good thoughts there although I would probably keep Callan for insurance. Not convinced he cant make it.

Also agree with some posters regarding Boyd and Cross in the same team. Would need to find different role for Boyd because he isnt quick and doesnt have good enough delivery skills for a centreman.

It is interesting that most posters on here have a minimum of changes from our list eg 4-6. I am the odd one out because I can see up to 10 at least.

This is my guess at what the club will do.

SACKED

1 Akermanis

RETIRED

2 Johnno
3 Eagleton
4 Hahn

DELISTED

5 Callan
6 Thorne
7 Markovic
8 Tiller

OFF TO GOLD COAST

9 Harbrow

TRADED OUT

10 Everitt
11 Hill

RETURNING HOME TO WA

12 Stack

And this list doesn't include Boumann or Mulligan who are on shaky ground.

Personally, I want the club to keep Everitt, Stack and Hill because I think they all have talent and we need young talent going forward. But Rocket has no faith in them and I would bet anything that the trifecta won't be with us next season.Which is an indictment on us as a club in one way, but that is another subject for another thread.

As a club we did our best to trade Everitt last year. Hawked him around to all and sundry during trade week, and it only came down to the difference between pick 23 and pick 29, otherwise he would be a saint now and playing in a grand final. From the players point of view, I can also see why Everitt and Hill would want out. Why stay at a club when the coach has no faith in you and doesn't play you for more than a game in a row.

So I will be probably 100% wrong but I can see at least 10 changes in our list.

We also need to remember that next year we are in rebuild mode. There is no point in keeping Hahn on the list, and no point in keeping Callan for 1 or 2 games a year. We are not in premiership mode anymore. We need to invest in picks and players that will be potential premiership players in a few years time, not just VFL players who are handy back ups.

TBFB, that leaves us with no depth and a few low draft picks. And in compromised drafts, that will screw us for years...

Well 5 are gone anyway(assuming Hahn retires and Harbrow goes).

I don't want to lose Hill, Everitt and Stack. I really want to keep them. But I am giving my opinion as to what the club will do. And my guess is that the club will offload them.I outlined the reasons why in my other post. Maybe they will get players back in return. You are also assuming those players want to stay with us.

As to the other four. Well posters on here have said that Thorne is as good as gone. Other posters have said the same about Markovic.

And we are rebuilding from next year. Do you think that Callan and Tiller are going to be premiership players? If so, fine, keep them on the list. But if not, it is just wasting spaces keeping them there. That list space could go to a potential premiership player in the future.

Note also, my list is players who will leave our list. Remember we have upgrades from the rookie list, F/S and probably we will trade for a player or two. So even though 10-12 players exiting sounds a lot, it might not translate to that many draft picks.

One thing we need to consider is the type of player we focus on next year. We need bigger players who can take a contested mark, make a tackle stick and win a one on one contest for the ball.
We were too small against the Saints last night and the Pies two weeks ago. Also we need a CHF and another ruckman, Minson is hopeless and Cordy is going to take time to develop.
Keep Everitt, trade Gia, Hargreave

McKinely and Lynch.

?????????????????

All 4 players out of favour / form and each fill a need at the other club.

Am I wrong in thinking we have a number of talented father son pickups in the next few years?

- Tom Liberatore

- Mitch Wallis

- Lachlan Hunter - Is Hunter a fast, skilled midfielder?

- Tim Templeton? Forward?

As far as I know Kelvin has 2 girls, perhaps insert Will Beasley.

I'd initially name those I feel are untradeable, everyone else up for consideration (depending on what's on offer).

Those I wouldn't trade:

Grant, Murphy, Higgins, Ward, Hudson, Griffen, Cooney, Jones, Roughead, Hall, Wood, Lake, Morris & Picken. I'd obviously have Harbrow on that list too if it wasn't for GC17.

There are youngsters such as Howard, Tutt, Prato & Cordy that you just wouldn't consider trading as we really don't know at this stage what they offer.

My worry is our one paced midfielders; Cross, Boyd, Reid, Ward, Libba & Wallis. We need more players with pace & creativity to assist Cooney & Griffen.

I'd add Williams to the "don't trade" list given he is still improving with a lot of upside and we have little to no depth in tall defenders. Other than that - agree completely with your assessment TCD.

I read in an interview he has a son named Tim. Haven't been able to find much on him, but believe it was mentioned he was a forward? Could be wrong but this is what I read.

Will Beasley? Info? When eligible, etc

Eade has already said we'll be active in trade week (tonight's interview) so I'm thinking some players will be dangled (eg Everitt, Hill, maybe Stack). Not sure who he has in mind to recruit but please, please don't get a mediocre cast-off from another AFL club.

Faulks is unlikely to be available by pick 293 or whatever our first pick after father/sons is. The success of Barlow, Pods etc will have alerted all 17 clubs that there are some real gems to be found in the VFL. So VFL ranks will be well and truly picked over, especially as Gold Coast have already taken some of the cream of this year's crop as 17yos last year.

Bearing in mind the difficulty with the draft, clubs are going to be extra cautious with trades as well. Those wanting to offer up Gia, Hargrave, Boyd etc :)eek: what the...), well, who do you think we'll get for those - Hodge? Judd? Chapman? Clubs will be the same as us, looking to offload out-of-form, out-of-favour, older players, not their gun youngsters.

I hear there's a forward up at the Lions who is out of favour... ;)

Some clubs seem to be able to successfully recycle players from other clubs, some players step up when they go to a new club. Think Leigh Brown, Michael Gardiner, Schneider, Dempster, Darren Jolley,

Think Andrew Lovett, Andrew Raines, Andrew MacDougall, Andrew Wills, Alan Jakovich...and I'm only half way through the "A's"!

Whatever the club do, let's hope they don't go down the Michael Voss path.

i think we will be right - for all our mistakes, i think our recruiting has been pretty good since 2000 - there have been a few balls ups, but its been pretty good on the whole
