So we get rid of gia but keep stack? No clue.

Some people just get bees in their bonnets. Gia had a good year overall and was also given some jobs to play as a defensive forward, but a lot of supporters neglect to see that, whether they don't watch the game and understand the game enough or not?

It just burns me man. Espically the comments about him not being good enough for captain and to be traded and what not. These are the same people that laid the boots into johnno aswell. Considering we have half our 22 from the weekends game going into surgery you would think people would respect the players abit more and be happy with the determination they showed to not only bring themselves a flag but the fans aswell. They are playing in pain and i know people will say bring in everitt and what not but they simply did not show enough when selected.

Gone:
Eagleton
Johnson
Akermanis
Harbrow

Going:
Tiller (too many in front of him to get into the side, especially if we pick up Faulks (but we won't, look at Podsiadly))
Thorne (although by reports when drafted could be the small forward we need)
Markovic (doubtful, but possible)
Callan (will be 27, will not get any better)

Trade Bait:
Hill (might want to go home)
Stack (talented, but is there a spot for him in our 22, especially with the inclusions of Wallis/Liberatore)
Minson (Fremantle would be keen, but would need to offer us Mundy to get it done)
Reid (Injury prone might make the likes of Voss interested)
Everitt (underperformed but other clubs are well aware of his potential)

Trade Targets:
Djerrkura/Vespremi* (Small forward, crumbing type - would be nice to uncover a Didak/Milne type in the draft)
Taylor Hunt* (running half back, I liked the look of him in the games he got at Geelong this year, and he seems to be a quick half back)
Mundy* (outside mid with good disposal)

*Or players that have the same traits

I think we should stay away from Sherman simply because he is too expensive.

Draft:
Wallis
Liberatore
Faulks (or live pick)
Moles (Promotion)
Hooper (Promotion)
Pre-season/Rookie live pick

There is a fair bit of space opening up in our list, which will ease our salary cap a bit, and means we can be a little bit more aggressive in trade week. In saying that though, I don't know the contract situation with the targets I listed, and also I don't think we will end up trading at all.

Re: Bulldogs list in the off season

Nice work samass and welcome to BF, but there are already threads open on this topic, such as:

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=758364 (Trades and draft selections)

or

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=758280 (Team for round 1, 2011)

or

Not sure how much a newbie you are but it's etiquette to check first whether there's a relevant thread before starting a new one. Helps keep the board from descending into chaos.

Re: Bulldogs list in the off season

I think the rumour is Hill direct swap for McKinley. Not a great one given our needs, but who knows really.

Re: Bulldogs list in the off season

It'll take more than a second rounder to get Sherman. If Brisbane were prepared to pay him 400 grand a year I'd say they rate him pretty highly.

Re: Bulldogs list in the off season

If a player's overpaid (as Sherman is) it actually hurts their trade value, which is why we might be able to land him for a second rounder. Dont forget we picked up Jones & Roughy late in the 2nd round 2 years ago, so they're still seriously valuable picks.

Minson (Fremantle would be keen, but would need to offer us Mundy to get it done)

Somehow I don't think that would happen....

And aren't Thorne and Markovic on a two-year contract, given they were drafted in the last draft? The most we could do would be to delist them and then pick them up again in the rookie draft so as to not clog up our main list..

The more I think about this, the less I think Mitch Hahn will be gone. I also think this whole process will depend on how many "live" picks we have considering we have the minimum 3 already decided assuming we elevate at least 1 rookie (rules were changed last year so now rookie elevations count as one of the 3 we must have), and assuming that we do pick up both Wallis and Liberatore (near certain).

OUTS:
Johnson (RET), Eagleton (RET), Akermanis (DEL), Harbrow (GC), TILLER (DEL), CALLAN (DEL), Hahn or Hill (depending on whether the reports of Hill wanting a trade west are true)

People need to undestand that the retirements of Johnno and Eagle (both from veterans list) only create 2 rookie spots.

With Aker and Harbrow also gone that creates the space for Wallis and Liberatore.

Obviously there needs to be more opened up, before we can consider any rookie elevation.

What we will have is 2 additional rookie picks.

I reckon Sherman will be a good get for us. Pretty vesitle player with pace and flair.. and thats what we need, we are lacking pace espec with the loss of harbrow.

I don't rate him. All he has is pace but no football brain and dodgy disposal. Last thing we need is another bloke who burns the footy....and we will end up overpaying. Identify some quick young blokes and develop them.

Eade mentioned they will be active in trade period but how ?

1st round selection on Wallis, 2nd round on Liber which leaves a 3rd rounder around pick 60. 1st rounder for Harbrow I cannot see using it this year, it will be worth more if held up a couple of years considering the young talent coming in

So how will we have enough leverage to get Sherman ? Swaps with Stack (not worth much), Hill worth a bit more but not much and Minson ?

Re: Bulldogs list in the off season

if we trade away our 1st and 2nd round picks can we still pick up liber and wallis with 3rd and 4th round picks?

How does it work?

Yes. Yes... Actually, you better ask The Coon Dog for further confirmation.

"Quite active" would probably mean two trades at most IMO.

Agree 100%. IMO he is way over rated and as you say that our challenge is to get young quick midfielders with good skills, who can kick.

Hope the club doesn't listen to the supporters and borrow the Vossy recruiting strategy.

Hmm, what about Christian Howard - can he play in Harbrow's position?

He is about to do his second pre-season, will he be good to go does anyone know?

Good point BJ. I had forgotten this. Thanks for pointing it out.

(I'll have a word with St Peter...)
