With the membership figures which teams fans are the cheapest in the league. Essendon and Collingwood rave about having the most supporters, but look at their membership numbers. Not really that many considering the supposed number of supporters. Would that be supporters who aren't actually willing to front up their hard earnds to actually buy a membership. You might even throw Carlton into that mix.
Also why are Essendon, Collingwood, Carlton, Sydney, Brisbane, Fremantle, Geelong and West Coast afraid to show their membership numbers on their web sites?

Official figures from AFL
CROWS 48,720
EAGLES 44,863
FREMANTLE 43,366
MAGPIES 42,498
BOMBERS 41,947

At the start of the year West Coast had a 6 year waiting list for full membership.

I wonder if that'll have thinned a bit at the end of the season.

We had 57,000 members last year if you include all those on the waiting list etc.

1) Essendon would have more members if the G was still our home ground. People are not going to purchase memberbships if they think they cant even go and watch their team.

2) What are you talking about? There is a whole dedicated membership section on the Essendon website and it clearly shows the membership figures.

I'm one of almost 10,000 non-ticketed Tigers members and i don't see why we shouldn't be counted. I'll hazard a guess that we provide more cash to the coffers than the ticketed members considering that all i get for my $80 is some garbage made in china that would cost the club about 50 cents!

that is not anyone's problem but Essendon's. The AFL wanted you to play at the MCG and you still went to play at the DOME. Hawthorn on the other hand were requested to play at the Dome, and instead told the AFL to shove it:)

When did he say it was a problem??

Hardly a problem, the money we get from the Dome was too good to pass up. Hawks told AFL to shove it, ended up playing in Tassie.

Good stuff:thumbsu:

I am sick of these threads, who cares?? If you want to have a pissing contest about membership go and do it on your own board.

The only thing that matters from a club administration point of view is net profit and assets.

Perhaps Essendon & Collingwood in having the most supporters, are in that position as they've built up support in areas outside of Victoria? No real reason to buy a ticketed membership if you are outside the home state?

How does someone on a waiting list count? They simply replace someone that gives theirs up. You can't count them as well, it's like counting some members twice.

You talk about who is the cheapest? I paid $275 for an 18 game membership. Most would be similar.

I think that's a more valid point.

You would need to look at the ratio of spend per member to see who is the cheapest (certainly of those that are members anyway).

Could it be that (for example) 60% of essendon members pay for the highest package, where 75% of collingwood members pay the lowest package available. The total numbers of members do not always tell the whole story.

I reckon Essendon would have a higher ratio because we play at the Dome and more people would get reserved seating with their package.

Greetings Viewers

The Lions pre-season promotion was "28 in 08", that is, 28 000 members this year.

We are unfortunately a long way short of this.

Regards

Dicko

Carlton actually has 40,726 members. It was shown on the banner last friday night!

No they don't. The club figures are not the official ones. The AFL conducts an audit and then realeases the official figures. Essendon's figures were also different from the official ones realeased by the AFL.
