A father son possibility for the blues in Luke Blackwell
Has been named in the best for 6/7 games he has played over in WA

Anyone have some more info on him? :)

Bluemike, just wondering if his father played a 100 games with the Blues??

Blackwell Snr played 110 games with the Blues. Big wraps on young Luke from what I hear down OO way.

He should be lining up for WA in the U18 Champs so look forward to seeing him first hand.

Just a thought on Blackwell junior if Wayne played 100 plus games for Carlton and also played 100 plus games for Claremont would he be eligable for Father and son at either club , much as The Cloakes were FAS at both Collingwood and Richmond?

Any ideas?

He played 112 for Claremont i think and i think u need 150 games to be eligible under that rule??

Either club? do you mean Carlton and Claremont or WCE and FFC?
If it's the latter the answer is No.

Besides, I have a funny feeling that WB's 112 games may not have been ALL for Claremont. They were all WAFL games, but did he play elsewhere.

By the bye, if we want him, we will have him.

As Wayne said in Wayne's World - "She'll be mine, oh yes - she will be mine!" (Well HE anyway)

Orangeapple,

Draft cut-off bithdate this year is 30-4-1987.
Marcus Drum from Murray Bushrangers is a 1-5-1987 birthdate - he misses by a day - Myles Krakouer (son of Phil) misses by 8 days.

112 wasn't enough regardless, however your other statement sums up the situation in a nutshell.

Thanks Sezzac1 for the info. on Blackwell senior.

Just wondering if you or any other WA footy fan knows Luke's physical statistics, what position he plays, his attributes and strengths, if he is eligible for 2004 draft and most importantly does he have what it takes to be a player??

Thanks in advance

Mark Lynch (Northern) looks a lock on number 1 to me. 206cm+, mobile, agile, skilled and pretty mature body. Junior ruckmen of his quality are extremely rare and ruckmen tend to dominate early picks.
A certain Collingwood supporting junior footy nous, reckons he's no chance of being a top pick.

Then again, he reckoned Bradley was only worth a second round pick, so it's all just opinion until draft day.....and after draft day for that matter!!

Not saying otherwise. So does TheHeatlyStand & GOALden.

Just pointing out that there are varying opinions. Sometimes extremely different!

I'm interestied in everyone's opinions, so thanks, and keep em coming!!

dont quote me on this but i think he around the 183cm mark with an average type of build. he plays midfield.

whether he could make it or not, i am certainly not qualified. alot of questions will be answered after the u18 state carnival. he gets alot of the footy at colts level here in WA but if u even want to be considered for a midfield role in the WA u18 side u need to be prolific at winning the footy.

Re Blackwell and the FS rules- I think the WAFL/SANFL cutoff for teams there is 150 or 200 games. Chris Johnson went to Melbourne under similar circumstances because Alan had played 120 odd games for Perth before his 130 odd for Melbourne, rule would be better back at 100 for these leauges for those temas but i guess the Vics feel they were robbed of too much outside of Victoria talent under the rules as they stood then.

How many father sons are you allowed to have in a year?
If its more than one then its good for the roo's to see Phill Krakour son appealing the draft the decision because they wouldn't want to miss on Jesse Smith from Calder.

Saw Lynch from Northern on Sunday against Deluca from Eastern on the weekend and Deluca dominated. Nothing against the kid and I don't like to put players down as its exeptional to make the level they have but he looks like a real project player at best. Very tall but his postioning and lack of mobility was evident.
Having said that he was up against some class. Deluca will go high.

Thanks Sezzac

Judging by the threads on Smith and the few games I've seen him play, he wouldn't be a wasted pick in round 2.

A 2nd round pick sounds about right from what I've read and the little I've seen, however, a 3rd rounder for Myles Krakouer (assuming for the sake of the argument the AFL were to overturn his ineligibility) would perhaps be a stretch from the little I've been able to ascertain. Anyone?

Smith for a 2nd looks right. Only question mark is his position in the AFL. He is not quite a winger, or a centreman, or a tough HBF, tall but not key position. Plenty of ability though.

Krakouer needs another year but has the skills and flair. Just not the body. He will be better in the AFL than TAC because the small grounds in the TAC hamper his style. He would love the spaces at Subi for example.

Has Miles got that ball snatching ability of his cousin Weaver?

How does he compare to Andrew at the same age?

Can't answer that because Andrew was almost unsighted as a junior and was considered a bit of a roughie at draft time. I certainly didn't see him.

Myles though has similar kicking and the ability to look like he is playing at a speed different to everyone else. I wouldn't have said he was as quick, or that he had the defensive qualities and he hasn't shown much goal-kicking yet.

As I say, he looks classy and poised but really needs more time.

It is awkward for Phil though. As I understand things Myles finishes school this year (so the paper reported) and so he has that year of 'limbo' with figuring out whether to get a job, go to Uni or focus on footy. Challenging the rules makes sense in that context.
