Who is the best side in the comp on their day?

I've heard many St Kilda fans claim that the reason Collingwood won the reply was that St Kilda were spent after the 1st GF. Do you agree with that?

StKilda didnt win on GF1 Day. So even if they played out of their skins that day, thay cant claim to be the best side in the comp, because even when they played as well as they could, they still allowed Coillingwood a massive head start and then having wrested the lead, promptly lost it again.

Where did I say GF1 proved St Kilda were the "best side on their day"

Surely any moron would know 1 game doesnt prove that - not even a GF in reality as their are many reasons why a sides best may not be produced on that given day. All a GF proves is on THAT day the winning side was the best.

As MM has pointed out - for the BEST sides how can 2 sides be at "their absolute best" on a given day when there is always a winner/loser.

Collingwood V St Kilda 2010 played 5 times for 2.5 wins each. What this tells us - is over successive games both sides are evenly matched.

Pies are Premiers and finished of the year ahead of all other sides, yet as a Saints fan I got into 2011 absolutely not fearing Collingwood as long as we are fit and healthy...I know the availabe improvement in our side from GF2 whilst the Pies couldnt play any better or have a better year injury wise.

we arnt talking about 2/3 years ago brainiac, we're talking about now, not 10 years ago, not 20 years ago, but last season, as in NOW!! comprehend do we? you feeling me? you hearing me? do i need to go through it again?

short memeories....is that all thats short?:D

By the way BRANIAC we are in 2011...so why we talking last year if you dont want to live in the past??

I'll focus on 2011, confident in the knowledge we will belt Pies.

Who cares what happened 3 years ago? Do you know how much our side has changed in 3 years?

And I live the way you were only one point away from a premiership, and the way the ball bounced at the end just right to deny you that. God must really hate St Kilda.

Who cares what happened in 2010? is that the logic??

And where did I mention anything about losing the game by luck - do show me my quote?

Thanks for more dribble....

ok then, how bouts we just compare win loss ratios from when we first started playing?, that should end the argument shouldnt it?, oops, that wouldnt suit now would it.

You keep saying that, but that doesn't make it true. You played us 4 times in 2010. One game you won, one you drew (both due to Collingwood's inaccurate kicking for goal), and 2 games you got smacked in. Only a loser would count games prior ro R1 in order to boost their team's performance.

Isn't that how you went into 2010?

Do you really think you've got 10 goals worth of improvement, and we have none?

It makes a hell of a lot more sense to compare our sides of last year, which are relatively the same as the sides of 2011, than it does to compare sides of 3 years ago, which have drastically changed since then. Shit, if we're not going to look at 2010, then there's no point discussing this thread, is there. 2010 is the most recent footy we have to discuss.
And where did I mention anything about losing the game by luck - do show me my quote?
You must have said it somewhere. You're a saints supporter, it's the only excuse you've got. "We were 1 point away from winning the flag". I wouldn't be surprised to see that written on your banners next year.
Thanks for more dribble....
Thanx for the lulz.

On their day, with the everything going their way, West Coast is the best side in the comp. Collingwood tried hard, but unluckily they hit the post seven times and had two certain goals cancelled because of interchange infringements. Natanui kicked 5 goals and West Coast profited from terrible umpiring decisions and dodgy 50m penalties. Andy Demetriou refused to comment on the million dollar plunge on the Eagles at $6.50

On their day, Hawthorn's inconsistent fringe players can step up, offer some help to Buddy and Hodgey land make us look like world beaters. But the reason Clarkson has sleepless nights is that he never knows if it's going to be "their day" or not. The best players don't talk about playing well 'on their day'. They play well every time they step out on the field.

In what alternate universe has Nic Naitanui ever kicked 5 goals in a game?

Statements like this aren't worth a penny unless you're prepared to back them up.

Just off topic somewhat, but how can an internet poster 'back up' such a statement?

I'm pretty sure that sainter35 doesn't play for the Saints, nor is he a coach. So apart from a lot of supporter hot air, he has no input, influence or relevance to the result whatsoever.

Do you mean, he needs to 'back it up' with some form of reasoning?

If so, reasoning or backing up statements from someone who has zero influence on the match (unless people really believe that yelling from the grandstands makes a difference) don't improve the value of such statements.

Anyway, carry on.

so we're counting fosters cup games now are we? lol

When you've only won one premiership in your pathetic history (along with 26 wooden spoons), and you've failed to win a grand final in 3 recent attempts, then you clutch onto whatever hope you can.

You'd think they'd learn after all the mouthing off from Stkilda supporters at the end of 2009, despite losing the grand final. All we heard was how they own us in finals, blah blah blah.

And now, even after we ripped them a new one in the gf replay, they still have the nerve to go on about how their best is better then ours. lol. Give us a break.

For a club with such a pathetic history...they have far to much to say. :D

That's funny, but St.Kilda supporters claim any win they can, even Practice Match cup matches. They lost that Grand Final last year too though for a total of zero wins from three Grand Finals. At least they don't have to worry about losing any more Grand Finals this year because I don't see them making any.

By the way, Collingwood were the better team in that Practice Match Cup game too, but great finishing (they kicked only 4 behinds for the match) and an extra nine point super goal to St.Kilda enabled them to win by a point, which would have been a 2 point loss in the home and away season. Looking at the final score, it's easy to see which team was better on the night considering that Collingwood had seven more scoring shots, and yet again dominated inside-50's against the Saints which happens every time the two teams play each other lately...

Collingwood: 1.13.12.99
St.Kilda: 2.13.4.100

Can you try for one minute, to talk bout something other than Collingwood and how great they are?

The only time you seem to talk about other clubs is when you make disparaging remarks about them, when comparing them to Collingwood.

well we did just win the flag. i reckon that pretty much gives her bragging rights at least until the season starts...

heck you hawks fans think you still have bragging rights over 2 years later..

Winners are grinners, and losers can [strike]go to buggary[/strike], woops, I mean please themselves. ;) After copping rubbish from opposition supporters on here so often every year, and to be written off each year as well, you need to toughen up a bit. I remember the things that we said to me when I predicted a Collingwood premiership last year. :)

I have said positive things about teams when it's warranted, but in this case I was responding to a previous post. Why should I ignore that post just because you think that I should? Instead of getting personal toward me, which part of my post do you disagree with?

Exactly, and for the most part, I feel I have been quite reasonable in my bragging. In fact, most Collingwood supporters have been terrific since we won the premiership.

What happened last year, has pretty much the exact same relevance as what happened 2 years ago - or even in 1997/98.

All are old news. And all are only important to supporters of the clubs involved.

New year, new season about to start.

If it's bragging rights that people want, I think that's what the club boards are for. It prevents thread after thread on the main forum from being hijacked into 'we won the flag last year so we're better'.
