David Haynes was better than the lot of them

This is the problem with these types of questions, its a different game and people answer a subjective question with a subjective answer therefore you never get objective consensus really. I was around for McKenna, but only young so I can only recall what I did. Bit rich to say he was _that_ good that he cannot be surpassed, Shep has a lot of playing left and _if_ he keeps it up, I think he's more important in a best ever defence given modern footy.
I only saw McIntosh in 2003 unfortunately. Must've been something in his prime if people say he's better than Glass.
What is it with full backs being cripples?I started following wce about 98 full on. I had two posters (or pics from the west) one was Cousins and the other was Mcintosh. lol both knees strapped too. He was beast fullback even at the end which is what iv only seen. very good kick aswell iirc?
Ash McIntosh played the latter two-thirds of his career with both knees "bone on bone". His father, John, who was a runner up to a Brownlow when he was at St Kilda suffered from the same thing which cut his playing career short. What is it with full backs being cripples?

Glass > McIntosh, IMO.
But that's as a full back. McIntosh was a better all round player.
Would be interested in your rational as to why you think Glass was a better full back !
That is precisely why I would want BOTH of them playing together. Glass for his strength plus McIntosh for his speed would make a brilliant combination. From what I've seen, Glass was more damaging in his prime. Both were great full backs but I think Glass did a better job of neutralizing strong forwards, even with weak defenders around him. McIntosh was blessed with an amazing support cast.

For arguments sake... Brennan held down full back. Ash was a bit of a swing man in his early days.Ash came into the side as a 19 year old and immediately held down full back. In fact he played against Brereton in the '91 GF at CHB because Jakovich (also about 19) had to play in the ruck. He quickly became the strongest player in the squad and was very difficult to move in a one-on-one tussle or show of strength. He was very good over head either marking or spoiling, had a great kick on him and early on before his knees went was very quick across the ground. He was also played further up the ground at times at CHB and CHF.
Glass on the other hand took a while to make his debut which was as a half back flanker. His disposal skills were appalling and he was in and out of the team.
He worked hard and became a very good footballer.
I saw both players full careers and would say that McIntosh was the better fullback and better player.
And THAT is how I would want him to play in a team with Glass, as a swing man. Using his speed to get to spots to help other players in defence or running off to receive the ball and set up attacks. For arguments sake... Brennan held down full back. Ash was a bit of a swing man in his early days.
