I find it difficult to believe Clarkson would actually accept a contract like that knowing it would cripple his ability to have a fully functioning coaching panel.
There was a story going around years ago that he actually coughed up some of his salary at Hawthorn of his own volition in order to bolster their coaching staff. It would be an almighty turnaround in attitude for him to then accept bonkers money which would cripple the FD.

I had some hope for Clarkson joining us, but never saw it as a serious prospect of happening. Always thought he was Carlton bound or the AFL would intervene and offer him the world to join the Suns.

Always been more invested in the idea of an "untried" coach such as McRae taking over.

I’m happy with McRae. I think modern footy is a lot about game plans and new ideas. Of course the list you have at your disposal has to be primed.
It’s interesting that after the Hawks success which came on the back of drafting some amazing players and then topping up brilliantly, they haven’t looked like it for a while. Adam Simpsons side has dropped off big time after winning one. Beveridge has only won a final (a big one of course) in one of his 6 seasons.
I think game plans get worked out and a new coach with fresh ideas could be just the perfect recipe for a side with so many young developing players who will also add to that in this years draft.

Well I guess if it's a guarantee then we may as well all hand in our memberships and vote with our remotes, wouldn't see the point if there is zero hope.

Call up the club and tell em to shut the doors, tell em they're only gonna make up the numbers and never succeed again.
