Hawthorn and St Kilda.

Hawks genuinely will improve and trend upwards in future years.
Saints will be 8-14 for the next few. Not terrible but not competing for a flag.

Richmond won’t be as bad next year but still likes bottom four as they continue to blood players for the future.

North should improve, but how can you not after the worst four years on field any club has ever experienced.
That is unless LDU and Zurhaar decide to leave. If those guys go the club may as well close shop.

Hawks comfortably for mine. Very close to being equal second this year and I expect them to go on with this years form. They play with a shitload of freedom and are having a blast out there.
I’d say saints would be next with not a great deal of confidence.
I’m reluctant to make any calls on how we will go after hoping this preseason that we’d be doing what the hawks are currently doing. Oh well

I hope Richmond hovers around the bottom of the ladder for the next two years beyond this year to stock up on talent.

Hawthorn have done their time and are now reaping the rewards by marching up the ladder. They have the talent and they have developed them. They have created a winning culture and I can see them pushing well into the finals next year.

North are a year or two behind the Hawks but are well on their way. I think they have the talent to be a contender in the next 3-6 years, pushing up to mid table quickly.

St.Kilda are a disappointment atm. They seem to not have the depth to get passed the bottom of the eight. I hope their key position players can step up because they have far too many mature role-players atm.

I am saying hawks and Saints, Specifically Hawks.

Richmond were bad in 2024. 2 wins and 21 losses. I dont think that they will be that bad again in 2025.

North got 3 wins and 20 losses in 2024, eventually they have to improve.

Saints get bagged out on here. 6 wins and 11 losses from 17 games. They then won 5 of the last 6 to get 11 wins and 12 losses.

Hawks made finals with 14 wins and 9 losses despite being 0-5.

Hawks could easily get injuries and finish 11th to 14th with 11 wins next season. Its that tight.

With the amount of experience Richmond will lose again this year and their focus on the draft I don’t know how anyone could vote for them.

It’s more likely that they get belted regularly in 2025 and media lose their mind about how poor they are(which they do every year when a side is bottoming out) before they start to rise in a couple of years.

Hawks 15 wins
Saints 10 wins
North 5 wins
Richmond 3 wins
For any other team not making the finals in year three from where they were would be the death knell for the coach. But not RTB. He has a vice like grip on that club and only he says when he leaves the position.

In saying that I reckon they will sneak into the 8 and lose their only final. That will be enough for Saints supporters to be optimistic.

Making finals year 1 has given him some leeway. Plus those at the club have realised that they overrated their list

Hawthorn are the only one who are a chance to play finals this year.
I personally think Hawthorn will regress slightly eg take one step back before taking two steps forward, but they'll still finish above the other three sides.

Why do you think that?
Harder draw and opposition teams putting more work into them, similar to Fremantle who regressed after 2022.
I rate Mitchell higher than Longmuir though, hence why I expect Hawthorn to take two steps forward in 2026 and push for top 4.
Fremantle will no doubt be mediocre again this year and probably next.

Hawthorn - Finals and maybe top 4 if all goes well.

St Kilda - Finals or not. Who knows. Fair bit of talent, but seem to have list balance and maybe other problems. Get it right and top 8.

North Melb - Midfield should start to be very good. Defence solid. Forward line .... Should improve and seriously push some good teams. But if teams put effort into them their forward line weakness can be a major problem. Bottom 4, but could be better if they can find a way to score regularly.

Richmond - limited stocks so injuries can screw the team up. One paced midfield. Good to very good defence, and if Lynch is fit good forward line. Lynch goes down lots of problems. So bottom 4 pushing bottom 1 most likely. But the actual team has the potential to be decent and so could win more games if injuries etc are good.
* Major wildcard is having a game plan that works and everyone plays to it. If the game plan is good and the team is disciplined the Tigers could win q few more games. So many if's in that sentence. I expect things to not go right and the team to be better than 2024, but not winning a lot.
