- Darling gets double teamed, then free's up another forward, that is if Mcarthy can hold those chest marks.
Kersten is exactly another Jack Anothony for mine. Reasonable WAFL player at best. I am utterly unconvinced.

- Ballantyne has been useless for years. A liability. Boggles the mind how he remains on the list. I'll concede 3 years may have been a stretch after a 49 goal season. (Classic lazy bigfooty posting).

- Apeness - the suggestion was Darling wouldn't get a game because of Apeness and a few others. This guy can't and may never get on the park, making the assumption Darling wouldn't get a game even more absurd. I don't doubt his ability its just he can't get out there.

- I get the feeling with anything Ross lyon, Freo fans can't get over the fact he took your grand final virginity away and refuse to look objectively at whats going on. The hidings, the manner of the hidings, recruiting, drafting, dismal seemingly irrelevant style of play, the worst forward line + structure in the league hands down.
None of it is Ross' fault despite the glaring similarities in all these facets of his days at the saints and the mess he left when he departed.

Freo fans will defend him at any cost.
-Thats true about Darling. But looking at McCarthy at GWS, He was the 3rd tall forward behind Patton and Cameron.

-take away Ballantynes 49 goals in 2014, Every time he played 20 games, he kicks between 25-35 goals a season. That is sort of wat you want with someone in the front 6. He now his competition with matera and Bennell now. Dead certain 2018 will be his last year.

-Apeness.... Again, he has shown something when he can get on the park. Got a stretch of games in the end of 2016:5 games and 3 goals. All 3 of thse wee from good set shots.

-I will give Credit where its due. Ross Lyon got us into a grand final. I also enjoyed our 2012-15 finals run. I said this about Freos 2017 season: I was way better than freos 2016 season. Again cold hard win-loss record said 8 wins and 14 losses not 4 wins and 18 losses. Everyone harps on the 100 point losses. Keep in mind we were fielding a young squad.

Oh and one last thing.... I will say it before and I will say again. I will ram this down every ones throat till the day I die. Ross Lyon can walkout right now and it would be a younger squad than what we had in 2008. Again, in 2008, our squad was that old, we only had 7 players aged 23 or under

Yes he is a hack and I would rather play one man down than any of them!
Again, I would give 22 games to Shane Kersten than 22 games to either colin Sylvia or Jack Anthony. I can see Kersten kicking 30-35 goals if he plays all 22 games.

Masten is no longer best 22, if he plays more than a couple of games this year we're already stuffed anyway.
You have lost faith in Masten? Bummer

How's it changed dramatically? You haven't played a game yet so how do you know how it will be structured?
Remember freos back 6 in the 2013 GF? The only guys that are left is Johnson and Spurr and they are on their last legs. Dawson and Ibbotson retired in 2017.

Yes. Obviously not prime Priddis/Mitchell, but I am confident 2018 Redden/Sheed will be better than 2017 Priddis/Mitchell with someone like Naitanui palming it down their throats.
You are asking a lot for Dom sheed to carry the midfield as a 3rd year player? You are asking a lot. He is a decent player though.

It's this point that they just can't seem to fathom, its almost as if they think Pavlich, McPharlin, Dawson, Duffield and Crowley are still out there running around.

If he walks away today, I certainly would not be hating on him like StKilda fans still do!!!

Whilst Ross' game plan is still evolving he has quite an exciting young group of players at his disposal and when we wave goodbye to Sandilands, Johnson, Ballantyne, Spurr, Pearce & Mundy, there might not be a player over 28 on the list at the end of 2018!!!

I got your point, I'm not sure Ross would play 17 men on the feild!

I think Cox or Taberner are better options and would play to their potential if given the chance and support of 22 games. Saying that, I would much rather throw Dixon straight in and let him develop as the 2nd or 3rd KPF!

He can do it, will benefit from increased midfield time too. Will also have our captain-in-waiting and probably only A-grade midfielder in our side assisting.

Dom will be a good player , Showed a bit last season , Is he ready to shoulder more of the inside work? Time will tell he has had one more pre season under his belt i suppose

I've heard from someone training down with the Lads that Sheed is burning up the track at the moment.
Not sure if it carries much weight at this time of year but it's a massive improvement over years gone by apparently.

Oh don't get me wrong. The back 6 has totally changed since 2013. Like the rest of the side. It's a total overhaul. I just don't think there will be dramatic change on what we saw last year.

I do agree with your earlier post though. Ross Lyon will leave this freo in a better place than what he inherited. He's done a lot for the club.

heard the same from a West Coast mate who is pretty informed and switched on

Its worked for Masten since day 1, but his time has come surely!?!

I like Sheed, not as much as Duggan though, I really like that kid!!!

Duggan can really play , Partington is supposedly training really well as well,And from a Freo perspective Tucker and Langdon have shown signs that they are ready to step up Have been very impressed with Darcy as a player and a person ever since he arrived at the club , A real first class kid ,I am looking forward to 2018 , Great to see our young guys and West coasts making the next step , i enjoy watching the young guys progress no matter what colours they wear ,

I totally agree. The only thing is, now I don't have a real 'hate' for any of the teams (Hawthorn excluded and theres a little left for Geelong) because I'd much rather see young blokes doing well than wishing teams like Carton & West Coast get smashed every week like I used to!

I dont think Sheed has ever had a decent preseason free of injury. Fingers crossed.

One year he tore a pec muscle off the bone early in the season, another preseason was knee soreness.

When he gets up and going and proprrly maych fit he can rack up the numbers. Just needs a decent run to prove the doubters wrong.

Sheed hasnt been fit enough to run out games in past seasons. His first halves stack up with the best but ha falls away as the game goes on. He is also genuinely a first touch clearance mid who up until this coming season has been played out of position.

Also to a prior poster WCE based on past performance would have Mcgovern, Mckenzie, Barrass and Schofield all ahead of Hamling.

You mean the Hamling that carved up Kennedy in the home final that WC couldn't lose.

Mckenzie and Schofield are way past their prime. Barrass is still trying to prove that he is an AFL defender.
You mentioned Pearce coming back from a broken leg and I agree he will struggle but Natanui is in the same boat. A 100 odd kilo leaping ruckman with a dodgy knee coming back after a year out of the game is not the best option to hang your hat on for a successful season.

Are you sure about that? Isn't Fremantle's list full of players who can't wait to jump ship just like Weller did because they hate playing Lyon's game plan. You stood vindicated about Weller going home to play with his brother at St Kilda and its a miracle that Langdon and Tucker are still here after it being common knowledge they were as good as gone mid-season, and we all know until St Kilda realised Fyfe was cooked and tore his signature up that he was flying your way like a bat outta hell.

Could probably add that his rehab has been anything but smooth. In fact its been nearly 18 months now, and he's still not in full contact training. This must add another layer of doubt.

What do you think? Of course I'm sure about it

Crozier wanted to leave too but he couldn't get a better offer so re-signed. That changed when a couple of clubs could match what freo were willing to pay. Tucker and Langdon are in the same boat IMO just because they are there now doesn't mean they don't want to be playing back in Victoria.

Weller was homesick in 2015. I know this because I spoke to him myself. He was keen on playing with his brother and best mate. He wasn't exactly hiding it. Everyone knew it. That changed then he signed his extension. He then got cold feet again when faced with the prospect of signing another long term deal with freo. Gold coast made him a massive offer and the rest is history. His parents live up there along with some of his mates. His girlfriend from memory is from there.

Fyfe was never coming. It was a long running joke on the saints board going through private messages to stir the freo lurkers.

Even if we wanted fyfe he wasn't going to come. We were merely a bargaining chip. Fyfe loves freo is arguably their greatest ever player. Is a WA boy who loves the WA life style. It's a good thing he stayed at freo on big coin and will be a one club loyal player.

What's the issue with Alex Pearce? He looks like an absolutely ripping prospect. Is it still the broken leg or other injuries?

When I hear that a player is "burning up the track" in pre-season, I think, well that's put the mozza on that player. I call it the Daniel Bandy Effect !!!.

Anyway, at the moment there are so many if, but's and maybe's for both teams.

Absolute class freo supporters. So because someone says something true about your current and past players you have to jump and be disrespectful of the deceased.

I reckon we're at at a minimum of 50/50 chance at least 3/4 of Wilson, Bennell, Matera and Kersten are delisted or sacked by the end of 2019.

3 love drugs, 2 are Shit and all of them will be lucky to play a combined total of 100 games for the dockers.

If that's the issue, Harley Bennell isn't on bigfooty to defend himself either.

You know what I meant.

Harley Bennell can explain whatever he did to the media and to club officials and his teammates.

I just personally believe throwing him into a shitfight between Freo and WC supporters on here is classless.
