Still had to beat Adelaide to make it so was hardly a bradbury moment. A far cry from Richmonds hundred point flogging of Freo at home late in the season.Port actually won 2. Sydney and West Coast. We werent the only team to cop a hiding in finals BTW.
You mean the Adelaide that had nothing riding on the outcome of that game?
We also beat Richmond at the MCG, when was the last time you guys won a game at the grand final venue?

Who is pretending we were close?

Typical freo freak out when it gets pointed out that an Eagles side that had no recognised rucks, their best midfielder a shadow of himself and missing their back to back Coleman medalist for 5 rounds somehow managed to perform adequately enough to make and win a final.

It must be confronting to see a side just up the road that doesn't pack up it's bat and ball and tank for draft picks in the face of adversity.

Also only lost in a tight contest against GWS away only two games before the Adelaide game so our form wasnt to bad against fellow finalist. Meanwhile Freo also copped a 10 goal flogging by the wooden spooners which was quite amusing at the time.

Eagles arent winning a flag as long as we pay top dollar for a bloke who cant play footy but can jump really high and now has knees that are shot. I say about 8-10 years away

Hope you're on an encrypted VPN when you logged in to post this...your own team supporters will be coming for you with pitchforks and flaming torches otherwise.

Stop moving the goalposts, I'll happily admit we were poor in many games last year.
I won't accept that you were anywhere near winning a flag last year.
You're on a downward trend and you're going to have to get a midfield that can compete before you're a threat in finals again and that could take years and by then who knows how effective Kennedy, Nic Nat and Shuey will be.
In the interim, your forward and back lines may keep you from bottoming out but that only prevents you from getting good draft picks (that and trading them away).

For some people...The truth is just too much to handle :p

Cripps is a defensive forward not a midfielder, he's average.

By all reports nic nat hasn't commenced full training yet.

Jetta is a known inconsistent performer.

Vennebles has spent the majority of the last 2 years injured and hasn't played a game of afl.

I don' think you know what you're talking about.
Let’s just wait and see mate.

Their midfield is more than capable of competing.

Well we finished 6th including a great away win in the the finals. Were second overall for time in front behind Adelaide for last season. This was with both our Rucks injured and Priddis rapid decline due a drop of in pace.
As oppossed to Freo who were miles of the pace with regular 100 point floggings and an almost totally disfuntional forward line

Mate - don’t worry about Freo; we’re no chance in 2018.

WC fell into the finals because Adelaide had nothing to play for in R23, got beaten on all but the scoreboard by PA (fair play there - you win games by kicking more goals/points than the opposition) and were destroyed by GWS.

So in summary, WC is closer to a flag than Freo in 2018 (and maybe even 2019) but nowhere good enough to take the chocolates; particularly given the trend line and nothing all that significant suggesting it can be reversed.

Sydney at the beginning of their 0 and 6 start and errr ....... you guys!

It's probably bottom 4 in the league but what would you know, you think cripps is an grunt work midfielder.
Nah. That would be Carlton. Brisbane Norths Gold Coast and Freo. Freo looks alright on paper but clearly isn't that good on results from last year. A decent midfield dosent cop regular 100 point losses

When does thus trend line begin. We want from 8th to 6th last year.

2016 - or 2015 for that matter.

It’s not a trend line derived solely from final finishing position. In 2016 WC finished 6th after the H&A with 16 wins and a percentage of 130%. In 2017 WC finished 8th with 12 wins and a percentage of 106%.

Adding to that, WC were just not as competitive in 2017 as they had been. I find it hard to believe that you didn’t notice that, or that you would bother arguing the opposite.

Richmond's trend line from 2015 to 2016 wasn't good reading either.

Not saying we will do a Richmond, but we gone further in 2017 than we did in 2016 even if the home and away results weren't as good. Just like the finals series, this season we all start with a clean slate. If we're good enough, we're good enough. There is the talent and game plan, now all we need is the luck and unexpected improvement.

Well the competition was a hell of a lot closer than the season before so it is not that suprising. If not for our very annoying last quarter fade outs we could have finished higher.

Elite forward line.
Elite backline.
Underrated midfield in my opinion.
NN returning will bolster the middle.
Yeo should spend more time in the middle.
Mitchell assisting in coaching could help them work through the travel concerns.

Who is elite in their forward line besides Kennedy?

Richmond turned the place upside down in 2017 with new coaches and game plan - don’t see similar catalysts at this point for WC; only personnel losses that if anything make the mountain higher.

We have new coaches and presumably a new game plan now that Priddis and Mitchell are both gone - we can only go faster.

Foolish to write off either the Dockers, Eagles or any other team before a ball has been bounced this season.

Spare us.

Like in 2010 when you took out the wooden spoon for draft picks? Must have been pretty “adverse” for your poor, courageous warriors back then. We applaud what you have overcome.

The only statement I’m making in this part of the debate is that neither will win the flag in 2018. Most would not deem that foolish.

Both could outperform my expectations, but I’m super confident neither win the flag.
