Why blame the coach and not the team?

Just wondering why people seem to blame the coach rather than the team when there team is going badly?
Two main things is that it is easier to sack 1 man than 38, and also when ever a group underperforms the leader is the one who is held responsible.

Because it is his job to motivate the players, play them in the best positions and make all the tactical moves necessary to win the game. All the players have to do is play their best. If they are not doing that, then it can still be blamed on a lack of motivation from the coach.

Sure the players are to blame too, but the buck ultimately stops with the coach.

If the players are playing that badly, they can be pulled from the team by the Coach. Thus when a team does lose and players play badly, its the coaches fault based on that, lack of motivation, tactical errors, etc etc. That is not always the case that is true, but you'll find over a long extended period of time it tends to be the coaches fault.

What is it Harry Trumman said? 'The buck stops here'? There's a perception that ultimately a coach has the power to improve a team, and as such the responsibility to do so. Speaking from a Geelong perspective, supporters got jaded last year by Bomber's repeated failure to drop underperforming players, his bizarre match-ups (which just kept happening - Joel Corey as a small defender, exhibit a) and the total absence of a gameplan.

Because the coach's job is to build, motivate, and make the team perform. It is his jb, if he can't do it then he is a failure and in most circumstances shouldn't keep his job.

If a team is not performing, or not following the coach's instruction then that is ultimately the coach's respnsibilty. Part of the job is getting players to follow your instructions.

I also find it puzzling at times as to why coaches cop the wrath. It seems as though it happens in hope of a quick fix, but can at times be unpredictable and risky.

Just look at how people were calling for Laidleys head at the start of the season, i doubt any other coach could have propelled the Roo's to the success they've had in 07. Coach of the year?

So Bomber should have got the arse last year? Because last year you were rank. However this year you have turned it around.

So did you underperform last year with a crap coach, or is everyone including Bomber a legend this season?

There's only so much a coach can do. They don't go out there and kick the goals. Coaches are overrated anyway. Yes they can be the difference between having a good team and a premiership team but YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE CATTLE ON THE PARK

You ask any of the successful coaches like Barassi, Jeans and Sheedy and they will tell you the same thing
