GWS and GC had their pick from the entire Australian best juniors. We had ours only from a state basis.

I know their early list was largely transferred from a highly successful SANFL club that dominated the SANFL at times, while Fremantle were created from scratch. So were West Coast and Adelaide, mind you, and they've already achieved premierships.

I can't remember specifics because i was only a kid but I'm pretty sure Freo had better concessions than Port.

Port had the second worse deal of everyone, only Adelaide had worse. You could argue the talent available when Adelaide came in, compared to port, was an equalizer. But port bribed many sanfl players not to enter the draft and wait until they came in, so that may equal that out.

Ports success was due to the coaching staff they built and the lessons learnt from Adelaide.
