I wouldn't expect any bombers supporters to take shots at other clubs now about club culture..
Knights made a call on Lovett, and decided that Essendon wont tolerate what Lovett was dishing out. Now it seems he will tolerate it if he cant get a good enough draft pick. As far as Im concerned, knights made a call to get rid of this guy from the club and now he's gone back on it. In the end he should have just taken what he could get for him and got rid of him. What sort of message does this send now.. If a players bad for yr club, you dont compromise. But by knights keeping him, he has. SUre, you try to get the best deal, but by the end of trade week he needed to be moved on. The issues Lovett has with Essendon have nothing to do with what pick you can get for him. Either a decision to keep him, or get rid of him should be made. It looks like now Lovetts the winner and that Knights has excpetions and will compromise his values.

The message that was sent was to pull your head in because he are not as good as you think you are. Just look at the crappy offers.

Simple. He's under contract and if we didn't get what we were after he was always going to stay.

And thats my point. If Knights wanted to trade him, which he did try to, it wasnt because of his playing ability, it was purely off field. So then if what he did was bad enough for Knights to want to trade him then what does it matter what pick you get for him.. Like I said, sure you try to get a good pick for him but in the end the idea is to get that type of person out of yr club..
But I can see this thread going in circles..

Had the feeling this might get a "carlton supporters" comment. Though i felt it was unnecessary for the OP to post this, its probably a fair enough comment. But who is to say what Knights motive was? it was probably to scare the shit out of Lovett into realising his career could be over at any time and he wouldave acomplished that. Lets see what comes of it next season.

It depends how you read the media I suppose.

It was reported that he was definitely out the door, and it was reported that we were more than happy to keep him should the right deal not come along.

We never made a definitive comment as to where he stood, so it comes down to what you want to believe, but it's impossible to say whether Knights has gone back on himself.

As the first response stated (although you chose to ignore it). By putting Lovett up for trade and having nothing come through, Knights can say to Lovett "see no-one else wants you, pull your head in or else".
Missing two training sessions is hardly irrevocable damage.

The same reason why you havn't traded Fev, you know if they can pull their head in they have the talent to be one of the better players in the competition.
I understand that, and our club has come out and said if he stuffs up again he's gone.. I would fully expect that to happen if he goes stupid again. But what you are saying is that if Lovett had less talent then he would be gone. That is not a good value to set at a club although half the clubs are guilty of it.

Fair enough, all we hear are the media reports and thats what we have to go on.

Would (for example) Fisher still be at Carlton if he had had the same indiscretions as Fev? I think not..

seriously some people are so deluded. what has lovett done thats so bad? he missed a training session and rocked up hung over to another one. compare that to fev beating up irishmen, pissing in the street and walking down the streets of melbourne with a sex toy hanging out his pants and didaks hanging with murderers and drink driving and you may get a realistic look at how bad lovett actually was.

lovett is not effecting the culture of the club, in fact his indescretions could have had the opposite impact on our club now all our young guys will think hey if someone who is a really talented footballer almost was kicked out of the club for missing a couple of training sessions i better look out..

have a real think of what lovett did and what the appropriate punishment should be. the whole trade thing was more of a scare then anything else

Apparently we offered Geelong Lovett for Pris and pick 33 but was rejected. Though, put it this way, This will make him realise he isn't god and that might be enough for him to pull his head in and actually turn potential into results.

IMO people forget that Lovett is under contract and didn't express a desire to leave EFC.

Ultimately, Lovett was choosy about any future club and Essendon wanted a certain draft pick, so a deal wasn't consumated.

I think you'll find that the clause about Fev's behaviour is NOT in his new contract. So for all the big talking you managed to completely backflip only a few weeks later.

Hilarious that a Bluebagger would point the finger when they've had more than their fair share of troubled players on their lists over the years like Lappin, Fevola, Angwin, Norman .....

Lovett is a talented player. Several clubs wanted him, but no-one was prepared to give up draft picks this year.

Go and clean your tooth TfT

I don't think it was any great plan by Knights to show Lovett he wasn't needed. And this is a time when it pays to listen to what Knights actually says rather than media speculation, as Knights is a straight talker.

From what i can remember Knights said Lovett would be traded for the right price, otherwise we would keep him. Several clubs were interested, no-one was willing to give up a reasonable pick as they weren't for any other player so we kept him and he will remain a valuable member of our team next year.

Geelong wanted to get rid of Steve Johnson at the end of 2006, no one wanted to take him. Look at what has happened since

it shows that your an uneducated football supporter
