Society/Culture Why I blame Islam for the fact it's raining today.... part 2

Reminder: This isn't the Israel/Hamas thread. Go to the Israel/Hamas thread if you want to talk about that. Thanks.

Thread rules update:
From this point if you're going to make a connection between Islam and the crime rate, you need to demonstrate causation in your post. If you do not, I'm going to infract you for the inherent racism in the position you're taking.

Its really only been a generation or two that this has changed tho. When I was a kid Prod's marrying Catholics was frowned upon and in parts of the world people could end up dead.

When I was a young man one girlfriend was from a very strict Christian family that wanted marriage along ethnic/religious lines. Meanwhile there are now secular leaning (and outright secular) Muslims/people of Muslim background in Australia who are open to relationships with mixed ethnicities and religions.

Sure, but its been a long time in Christianity since someone would be killed for going against the family and marrying the "wrong" person, on anything other than a very tiny scale.

We probably also dont expect camels/goats/etc as a dowry. Though again, maybe in splinter groups that is still a thing.

The key being, one group progressed and the other still has medieval beliefs which are still generally followed today.

It was a "bride's family pays for the wedding" deal in the past. Not sure what the go is now.

Lumping all ~ 1.9 billion Muslims in together as a homogenous entity seems pretty silly to me.

We don't do the same for Christians or Jews, funny that.

I think Jews and Christians very much get lumped, by the same people who talk about how many Muslims there are and they arent all that bad - mostly.

Its still hundreds and hundreds of millions who hold archaic beliefs and believe the world neesa to be converted or die. These days hardly anyone listens to the Pope. On anything. Even in Italy.

Some of them probably should listen more, he's less anti-gay than many Christians would like.

Plenty of archaic beliefs held by Christians around the traps, mostly in the US.

Possibly my parents era. Certainly not common for mine. My daughter lives in sin so I cant speak for now.

But also it didnt involve a comparison of family animal ownership and how many would be traded for fatherly signoff on the marriage. And certainly after the age of 18 in the absolute vast majority of cases.

I can't see how you are saying Christian families didn't exert control over the female offspring in relation to marriage and the like.

The potential groom asks the parents for their daughter's hand. The father "gives the daughter away" in the traditional ceremony.

Did but now dont is my point. We left medieval times behind. Islam hasnt.

Stoning to death in front of their homes followed by 3-days of crucifixion sentences for the LGBT people in Yemen. Horrible

Its now more fashionable to believe in :
Ghosts
Aliens
Fortune tellers, Clairvoyants, or Mediums
Essential Oils.
Magic
Astrology
Numerology
Cryptids
Karma

None of its more viable than the mumbo jumbo religions push.

In an historical sense it was a tiny time ago that oil became valuable and was discovered in the Middle East, before then those economies were dominated by nomadic animal herding. In an historical sense, it's a short period of time ago that Pope's were declaring Terra Nullus and encouraging colonisation of infidel lands and the genocides that ensued.

Cultures have developed separately for a multitude of different reasons. It took thousands of years of gradual development for us to devlop our woke ideals - expecting all cultures to be followers of our current dominant views at the exact point of time that we are is ridiculous, as is suggesting that the very small differences in Islamic and Christain religions is the main driver behind differences.

Karma is actually another word for cause and effect according to the origional hindi meaning.

I think people confuse Karma with Instant Karma which John Lennon invented.

People use Karma in the context that if you do bad things, you will end up getting a suitable reward.
Sometimes that happens, but there are others who die in luxury.

Hence the extension to the next life to pick up those whom don't catch the karma bus in this life.

Yeah they use it in the context John Lennon did in the song I mentioned not in its actual context.

Would you include the rainbow serpent in that list? It seems to wield a lot of power.

Yeah, heavy flavours of people who wouldn't know a muslim if they fell over one thinking everyone is some kind of middle east terrorist from a 90s movie or some Indiana Jones shit.

Reckon I am surrounded in my street by a half dozen families of different brands of muslims. Maybe some of them might think I'm some kind of infidel, a couple I chat with with, one family I have BBQ and beers with.

Cause and effect can have valid uses, but I wouldn't call ultimate justice one of them. The common usage of karma makes it another term for just world hypothesis.

Just awful! Why do we never hear of this stuff?

Only in English.
evolved2 my understanding of it isn't "just world" as such.

But as I get older I see more and more of that poetic justice in the world but not enough to give it any validity as an actual mechanic that could be measured - so much shit that happens that doesn't fit with that idea.

The definition of a Muslim is someone who finds Muhammad to be not only a prophet, but the last and most important prophet. So they do have something in common.

Yeah, heavy flavours of people who wouldn't know a muslim if they fell over one thinking everyone is some kind of middle east terrorist from a 90s movie or some Indiana Jones s**t.

Anecdotes don’t say as much as facts. There is no shortage of statistical information available if you want to determine Muslims’ opinions.

How do you understand the word?

It's quite easy to disprove the idea of a just world. Religion plays on that psychological need by providing untestable answers such as reincarnation and the various forms of afterlife.

Reality isn't always easy to deal with.
