He tackled hard. Glad he got the exposure
Yep tackles like a mule. An upgrade after 1 game over 151 Blair games. And they say a cross between Cyril and Picket.
A forward line of Daicos, Kirby, Elliott, Moore, Cox, WHE, Faz etc etc.
I wish life had a fast forward button as I can't wait for 2018 footy season.

Well he didn't come up Yagmoor's so that's a plus.

Today was all about showing him what will be required if he wants to forge an AFL career and it was a worthwhile exercise in the last game of the season.

Liked his tackling, but obviously the fitness is going to be an issue if it doesn't vastly improve. He's had a year in the system now so hopefully he understands whats required and is willing to do the work!

If that taste of the MCG doesn't get him inspired for a massive pre-season then nothing will.
Yep, the club needs to map out his off season IMO, i'd get him playing a few basketball games a week on top of a morning and evening run, let him have no more than one night a week to let his hair down, it's all up to him from here, if he doesn't make it it wont be from lack of ability, if he comes back out of shape it'll be really disappointing.

Rest is an incredibly important part of training. This regime would surely see him burnt out before the season starts.

Nah, a morning and evening run is something even semi pro - serious local footballers should be doing, you need to remember Kayle doesn't just need to maintain his fittness, he needs to improve it, and by a fair bit, his pre season starts tomorrow if he's fairdinkum.

He has a better winning percentage than Wells.

He needs work but hopefully he knows where he's at now. Leading the VFL goal kicking could set some unreasonable expectations on where he's at.

Up to him now,

Yep. On my honeymoon in Malaysia in 2004, 2nd week of October, Rohan Smith from Dogs (they finished 14th that year) was at the same resort with his family. He was out running on the beach every morning before breakfast, he was 31 years old and in his 2nd last season as an AFL footballer. Had a little chat to him, he said that you need to keep the body ticking over every day of the off-season (obvs Christmas Day and New Years you can have a few days off it).

Gone are the days where more is better, it's about training smarter. With the rule of dimishing returns and the more time spent running increasing the risk of injury there becomes a point where the benefits no longer outweigh the risks.

He would benefit more from a structured programme targeting specific aeras (i.e., aerobic base, lactate threshold and vo2max) rather than just time spent on feet. Something along the lines of:

Easy pace running once a day, below 80% of his age predicted HRmax or actual HRmax for > 40mins in order to build up his aerobic base.

Every 3rd or 4th day alternating between a 20min up tempo run below 90% HRmax to improve his lactate threshold and repeat sprints or repeat max efforts of some kind that allows him to reach, therefore improving his vo2max.

Also with the obvious focal point on improving his skin folds by improving his diet.

Overweight and not convincing at all.
He'll always carry a bit of condition IMO, for his height he's always going to be heavy, it's just the way he's built, so we're going to have to take the good with the bad, the good is he hurts people and is ridiculously strong, the bad is he won't be as effective defensively, i can live with that.

Looked incredibly out of place, but i'm going to attribute that to a complete lack of fitness.

He look cooked at the 7 minute mark of the 1st quarter.

Savage but true; it highlights how big the gap between AFL and VFL is.

Now we find out if he's fair dinkum.

I don't expect him to be Bruce Lee in the off season, basically doing push ups in his sleep.

But I do expect him to eat exactly what he's told to eat and exercise the way he's told to.

Thomas and Keeffe had all that time away with no contact with the club permitted. Clearly they had good advice and stuck with it as they came back in great shape.

If Kirby is legit, he'll report for the first day of our season without blowing all the hard work he did this year.
