It's not because we had 5 of our best players out that night
Nor is it because we have a far more talented side.

Grand finals are the most hotly contested and pressure games of the year. There is no time to think and every ball is hotly fought over like it's the first ball up of the day. Hawthorn simply are not prepared for this, Geelong have had tough match. Geelong are contest orianted and contested ball focused.

The hype surrounding Hawthorn being tough is nearly a myth. Bar some heroic performance by Hodge, to play with injured ribs.

Geelong are ranked 1st in tackles per game
Geelong are ranked 1st in Contested possessions.

Hawthorn are ranked 13th in tackles last in contested possessions.

Geelong are a tough, contested finals team. Hawthorn play a majority uncontested style of football. They guard space rather than a man.

Sniping players is not tough. What Lewis and Brown do is not tough footy.

Remember that. And get some money on the cats 39+ and Corey for the norm smith.

i suspect hawthorn may open old wounds it repeatedly inflicted on the cats not two decades ago. if you think franklin will not rise to the occasion, you are scared and it will happen.

geelong- be prepared for a close fight, which you might lose. we all know geelong can collapse with even a bit of doubt in their heads.

the mentally stronger team always wins, these guys are physically strong enough to match each other so it doesn't matter a lot.

Both have something t prove.
Hawks, that they are not the pretty boys of the competition.
Geelong, that they are mentally strong enough to win back to back.

Whoever comes out switched on above the shoulders will win, easy peasy.

If you honestly believe that stats wins games alone, you are sadly mistaken.

The Hawthorn Team are a bunch of Warriors, one for all, and all for one. They believe and we believe. Saturday will prove that, just you wait and see.

The Hawks to win by 22.

Neck up you ****ing parrot.

I was worried before September started about the cluster and how it would translate into finals, where contested footy usually wins. And what do you know, the Hawks won more contested possessions in each final and thrashed the Dogs and Saints in contested marks. Hawthorn tackled more than the Dogs but got shaded in that stat by the Saints.

I am confident we can break even in those stats, if that is all that is needed.

I didn't realise Hawthorn weren't that great in those areas. Whenever you here anyone offical from Hawthorn they seem to emphasise tough footy.
A stat which would be better would be how many games they have won the contested possession count and tackle count, cause they may have beaten their opponent more often but just in small tally games. And you only have to beat your opponent on the day and not be the best in the comp each week.

I have some coin on the cats to win by over 39.5, as I did last year.

Geelong are just too strong at the moment. Hawthorn, as Port were in 07, would beat most sides in a GF. But not this Saturday. All of Geelongs strengths are Hawthorn's weaknesses.

If the Hawks win or lose in a tight one it will be one of the greatest efforts in modern footy.

St Kilda were the second best side in the comp in the last 8 weeks and Geelong took them apart with ease.

If you backed them by over 39.50 for every game this year you would of made a handsome profit.

Watched the finals then eh? Oh, no. I see.

PussieFlog, you are comfortably the worst poster on this site, and that is saying something.

I care not for your stats.

You best go back and make sure the Slurpee machine is in good working order.

Lewis and Brown are snipers?

Bahaha wind your neck in you pillock.

And did it ever occur to you that we've done so well this season, despite being ranked low (in those stats) because we use the ball so well? And that the other teams are usually chasing us?

No? Thought not.

Errrr......................
Hawthorn - 118 DEF St Kilda - 64. :confused::confused:

The difference between Port 07 and Hawthorn 08 is that they have Buddy Franklin.

Best of luck Hawks Fans, if Geelong play like they did last year you will be in for a hell of a day.

I've been of the opinion for some time that Geelong would win the GF quite comfortably but I've realised this week how similar to 2001 this season is.
Back then Essendon were coming off a dominant (one loss) 2000 premiership season and talking of a dynasty, and it had the team to suggest at least back to back flags was a formality, even though everyone acknowledged Matthews' Lions were coming.
Of course, the Lions arrived a lot sooner than predicted and snuck right up on the Bombers, who looked a lot older and more tired than everyone expected towards the end of September 2001.

Hawthorn have arrived a lot quicker than I thought; I seriously didn't expect them to be a real threat til next season, I thought they might be still a little bit brittle.

But this week I've started to think that, like the Lions, they ARE ready to seriously challenge the Cats.

Still think the Cats, but if it goes beyond about 20 points I'll be surprised, although if they are 3-4 goals up into the last term, Geelong could blow Hawthorn away.

Geelong by 17.

Cheers Zach - and you are right - Geelong derserve to be favourites and there best footy will be hard to beat but I'm sick of cocky Geelong supporters and that alone is why most the Country wants the Buddy show to roll 'em....

Mind you - when did so many Hawthorn people become parrots? Bit of humility Fellow Hawks fans....
