This thread sucks. Being moderated to avoid legitimate discussion of blatant police process failure.
I don't disagree with your sentiment, but that other troll M2F keeps alluding to conspiracy theories, which ruins it for everyone. I think there were obviously process issues on the police side - but would be good to know what information they had when the four young officers were despatched (their own internal info and other sources, in relation to welfare/weapon issues). Without comprehensive details being made available, we're all whistling in the dark.

Without comprehensive details being made available, we're all whistling in the dark.

This is it. It's going to be a huge investigation that will take time and we just don't have enough detail. In the interim and through an information vacuum, is when conspiracy theories can take hold and spread so hopefully, the police will update the public through the process.

We can do that without reflecting the same kinds of paranoid, conspiratorial sov-cit batshit thinking of the shooters.

Fascinating that some want to focus the attention on speculation rather than the undisputed facts of what happened. Reveals all you need to know about the poster.

In under twenty four hours, we had poster/s in here promoting as truth and defending, the same conspiracy theories the Trains were.

"Nathaniel Train’s wife had “genuine concern for his well-being” when she reported him missing before he, his brother and sister-in-law shot two Queensland police officers and a civilian dead in Wieambilla, Police say.

The Train trio’s criminal history has also been revealed as police defend the “run-of-the-mill” response, which led to constables Matthew Arnold and Rachel McCrow being killed in an ambush on December 12. Alan Dare was also shot dead.

It has been revealed Nathaniel Train’s wife had not seen him since December 2021 and last spoke to him on the phone in May this year, before reporting him missing on December 4, 2022.

“She had a genuine concern for his welfare and as a consequence of that she reported him missing to the NSW police, who then relayed a request to Queensland Police to attend an address in Wieambilla to see if he was there,” said Queensland Deputy Commissioner Tracy Linford on Thursday.

“In the scheme of things, this was a run-of-the-mill policing job.

“Given we had very little knowledge of any concerning behaviour about Nathaniel Train, there wasn’t anything particular to flag with our members attending that day.”

Before the May phone call, Train and his wife had “regular contact”, Linford said.

Nathaniel Train’s criminal history was reviewed by officers before the visit by Arnold and McCrow - and their surviving colleagues Keely Brough and Randall Kirk.

That history, Lindford said, comprised a 2014 driving offence and an incident at the Queensland-NSW border at Goondiwindi in December 2021 when he illegally drove through a COVID-19 blockade while carrying four licensed guns, before getting bogged.

Train abandoned his car and fled with two of the guns, leaving two behind.

That latter incident sparked an arrest warrant, which the officers knew about when they went to Gareth Train’s property.

The existence of the warrant was also the reason for sending four police officers from two stations to the property, said Linford.

Gareth Train’s criminal history involved a 1998 offence of having a gun with an expired licence, while his wife Stacey Train had no known criminal history.

“We knew very little about the Trains and there was nothing that would have caused a particular flag for our members that attended that day,” said Linford.

A total of six guns - two registered to Nathaniel, three unregistered and one under investigation - were found at the property after the incident, as well as three compound bow-and-arrows and three knives.

Linford also said counter-terrorism officials had joined the investigation, however the incident was not being treated as a terrorism event.

“Certainly (we’re) not classing it as a domestic terrorism event at this point, there’s nothing to really indicate that,” she said.

“What we can see is sentiment displayed by the three individuals, the three Train family members, that appears anti-government, anti-police, conspiracy theorist-type things.

“But we can’t see them connected to any particular group that they might have been working with or inspire them to do anything.

“We haven’t located anything like that at this point in time.”

No other people involved with the Train trio have been linked to the shooting, said Linford.

However, she suggested people who engaged with the Trains online could be interviewed by police.

“In all of the social media postings, we’ll be looking at who were the people posting material, who were the people who own those sites, where are they located and then we’ll go and speak to him,” Linford said.

There is no evidence the Trains had been planning a larger attack on police or the public.

Linford said police had also previously attended the property on “multiple” occasions, including in August this year, in a bid to find Nathaniel Train to interview over the border breach.

She would not provide the specific number of visits.

Nathaniel Train was unable to be found at the property on any of those occasions."

There could well be some inaccuracies in the above report, but I think that this is the first time it was acknowledged that they had attended the property on multiple previous occasions searching for Nathaniel Train in order to serve a warrant on him in regards to the firearms dumped at the border.

The most recent visit was prompted by his wife reporting him missing, but was also to serve the warrant and presumably to question him about the other two licensed guns and the other weapons.

I wonder whether on the previous visits the Trains had merely hidden and not answered when the Police called?

So Nathaniel Train's wife had no idea he held extreme antisocial beliefs and ideas? If she did, she didn't think to include that detail to the police while filing the missing persons report? As he didn't tell her where he was going, or for how long, it's possible she didn't share his opinions and it was in fact going to be a permanent separation, one way or another. Why did she wait so long to make the report? What caused her to make it right then?

I wonder if his brother made the plan against the police (he'd been visited by them several times) and wanted Nathaniel to take part to inflict maximum damage.

I'd seen it reported somewhere that last contact Nathaniel had with his family was in the October but it wasn't specified if that contact was with his wife. Nathaniel's wife might have been told by someone else that they'd spoken to Nathaniel and that he was okay in the October, which stalled her on making the missing persons report. That may have even been Gareth or Stacey, we know that Gareth was sending threatening and aggressive messages to Nathaniel's wife after they became aware she'd made the missing persons report.

It appears Nathaniel was with Gareth outside the house shooting at the police 'two men in camouflage' even if some think wearing cammos isn't particularly a big deal and on it's own it's probably not, it might say something though if you're creeping around in the scrub trying to shoot cops.

Looks like paranoid, ice psychosis and we've seen groups of people on ice behave in inhuman and depraved ways before. Just not quite like this.

There's reports from witnesses saying they looked so scruffy and unkempt, that ice was suspected and Stacey told someone in the street that vandals in the area 'needed to be put in a hole and shot'. She'd gone feral.

I'm real intereasted to see their tox results though, I want to know if it's confirmed they were using ice, how much of it for each of them, how long were they using for, any sedatives, we might be able to get something of their medical history now they're dead.

How much of what they did, if anything can be attributed to ice psychosis or it's something else entirely, or a mix are important questions imo.

Also, where were they getting their ice from in the middle of nowhere? They hardly went out. Ice addicts tend to go broke real fast too, these people didn't seem to be short on money. The activity on their bank accounts might also be interesting. How much cash if any was found on the property.

Being in contact with Mark Latham should have been a big red flag.

Why are they collecting our metadata if they aren't using it to spot nutjobs?

Is it solely to track down journalists sources or do they do anything else with it?

Probably do something else with it but clearly only when it’s tagged with “terrorism” or some such thing is it used.

Exactly the type of thing the cooker types like the Trains decide to lose their shit over.

If they were on ice, they've got to have been making it somewhere. If none of them were working they would have needed to get an income somehow.

So the arrest warrant was the reason for the visit, and officers were aware of previous police visits to the property, and were aware of the Dec 2021 border issue and weapon possessions - yet still dispatched four relatively junior and inexperienced officers!!??

Would be interesting to know who made the call - four officers are four officers - but 4 young inexperienced officers with no senior colleague for guidance is not a good look IMO.

It was early after the incident, but I’m sure I read that neighbours said the property was empty for months, and that they arrived the weekend prior to the murder

Why would they have any concern if the previous visits had occurred without issue?

The constant thing I revert back to when you read/hear the paranoid delusions of these conspiracy theorist tools is this :

Gareth Train speaks of "Raytheon Learjets" flying over his house on surveillance missions.

A learjet 35 burns 197 gallons of avgas an hour. Avgas is $2 a litre. Then you have a crew of roughly 4-5 highly trained agents all earning decent money operating tracking and surveillance equipment worth millions of dollars. To watch some cooker with a God complex fry his own brain in the middle of the bush?

YOU'RE. NOT. THAT. SPECIAL.

Why would they have any concern if the previous visits had occurred without issue?

1. There’s no evidence they made any contact on those visits

2. Guns dumped at the border

3. Man missing with no valid reason screams mental illness.

This is only based off the facts that we do know. Who knows what other information they knew already as well.

So no reasons really.
What would be of more interest is how many officers went on the previous visits.

They'd already been several times. Four officers is a lot of resources, especially for a regional town. The police were doing the right thing IMO. You can't prepare for every single scenario, eliminate risk entirely from everything we do - it's not practicable.

Umm. Ok then, not sure why you are on a crime forum if you want to completely disregard legitimate facts. Maybe stick to twitter mate
