Will anyone ever want to deal with Hawthorn again in Trade Week?

I am just curious how Thornton went from wanting to be a career Carlton player to insisting on a trade to Hawthorn more or less overnight. If Hawks aggressively try and poach players just coming out of contract then they will not be making a lot of friends.

Player managers also have to be careful if clubs feel they are being far too mercenary then it could have other consequences such as clubs may start to factor who people are managed by as part of their recruitment policy.

Clubs will deal with the Hawks but if they burn a lot of bridges and get a bad rep for being obnoxious to deal with then they will find it a lot harder to get players in the future if other clubs are also interested in them.

Agreed. The other problem with Pelchen is he attempts to deal through the media. Once you publicly state your position a deal is harder to achieve, simply because the issue of 'face' arises.

I reckon we lost the plot this week. We were after thornton to improve out list but instead we mucked around. We should have put 24 and 33 on the table day 2. Then sniffed out other opportunties.

Overall I dont reckon we lost but we did not win that much.

How do you know we didn't sniff out other opportunities, also, 24 & 33 were on the table early in the week, i'm sure if Carlton were interested the Everitt deal would have happened earlier, but then no-one on here knows about the stuff that happened out of the media spotlight.

he doesn't "attempt" to do deals through the media...the only reason he spoke about the Thorton deal on SEN is because Carlton weren't willing to answer the phone and listen to the offer being put on the table!!
I saw him on TV and heard him on SEN twice, and both times all he stated was who the Hawks were looking at and that players like Chance Bateman and Cambell Brown were not being offered, apart from that there was no "attempted" dealing through the media.

Carlton were offered 24 and 33 and still declined to deal, mainly because they say he's a "required" player, and secondly because they didn't think that was enough for him (he's no Dustin Fletcher or Steven Silvagni)...so whether it was offered today or Wednesday they were never going to deal unless a first round pick was offered, so in the end i'm happy to keep our pick and let Carlton make a fool of themselves in the PSD by picking up a player who has no interest in being there, good luck to them!!!

How is it different to Rawlings not accepting Hawthorn's 2 year deal, and looking elsewhere, then deciding the Roos.

Our two deals with the Roos:

Both times you accepted it, and at the time of trades were happy.

Sydney ended up getting Spider for a second round pick. Very reasonable.

We offered 24 and 33 for Thornton, Also very reasonable.

We're obviously not going to convince the Hawks' fans who think Pillock is the trading messiah - just take it as read that the other 15 clubs will now only deal with Hawthorn as a matter of necessity and treat them with the same contempt as used car salesmen or child slave traders.

Can you prove you're right.;)

Its blatantly obvious that Pelchen lied.

He claimed another club had offered more than a 2nd round pick for Everitt.

Everybody knows this is a lie, it is just so ridiculously outlandish.

There is no place for blatant dishonesty on the trade table, and the club should be sanctioned.

please provide a link to the quote that you say demonstrates pelchen lying. I'm not saying he did or didnt, but if you wish to post defamatory statements then the onus is on you to provide a source.

So you can prove this wasn't the case?

Can you prove Jesus didnt walk on water?

No, but everyone knows he didnt.

Just like everyone knows Pelchen lied about another offer made for Everitt. Roos knows it, everyone knows it.

Its just common sense, logic, balance of probabilities. Its just damn obvious.

So if it was proven to be true, Pelchen not Jesus, you would apologise and admit you are a bitter knob.
St Kilda may well have been interested, then when Lyon came on board decide to go for Gardiner instead, I don't know, you have no clue what went on other than the tip of the iceberg stuff that gets into the media, he may well of spun some BS, so what, oh yeah, that's right, we should be sanctioned lol.

I just can't argue with logic like that.

No, seriously.

I can't.

;)

He tried to outsmart Sydney - failed

Tried to outsmart Carlton - failed.

The only one he outsmarted was himself.

Yes he was only chasing the best deal for the HFC, but in the end things panned out exactly the way they were tipped to.

The master trader ended up with jack s..t. and no credibility as was tipped for taking the supposed hard line, just a face full of egg.

Here's my theory on why it took %99 of the time to trade Everitt...

Hawthorn wanted to get Carlton to trade Thornton..hence, Pelchin was trying to squeeze the best deal they could of Sydney, to then pass that on to Carlton.. Pelchin said today, that at quarter past ONE, Carlton started talking to them about a trade..hence why Hawthorn hadnt accepted previous offers from Sydney..

Once Carlton said "Nope, we're not going to accept 2 2nd round picks for Thornton, there needs to be a 1st rounder" and Sydney said "Shove off, no 1st round Pick for Everitt" Pelchin has done the right thing and said "Fine, have a nice trip to Sydney Peter, we'll have that 2nd round pick"

How on earth is Pelchin being made a fool of? A blind monkey could understand he was always trying to get the best out of Sydney for Everitt, so he could offer it to Carlton for Thornton.

Pelchen >>>>>>>>> You.;)

Interesting to hear Pelchens excuses for not acquiring Thornton.

Appears to me he wasted so much time farting around with Spida he didn't have time in the end to negiotate with the Blues when they eventually came to him.

Pelchen = Poo:thumbsdown:

P.S. You don't do justice to the name Big game James. Your more a Kurt Rambis.

Obviously, no-one wants to trade with Hawthorn since Pelchen told lies about the offers for Spider. The fact that Sydney actually traded their second round pick for him doesn't count. It wasn't really a trade. And next year, well, good luck to us. We will need it after this years performance. If we have the pick/player that a club wants, and by 1:30 on Friday we are able to agree on terms, well, stuff you lying Tassie Hawks, that won't be a trade either.;)

Pelchen has some serious explaining to do to the Hawthorn board, members and supporters. In this trade week, he was able to

a) get pick 33 for Spider, rather than just let him walk into the PSD:confused:

and,

b) get this: he didn't trade over the odds for Thornton!!!

Serious egg on that man's face.
What a nuffy:rolleyes:

I used all the blue smileys except this one::cool: Go Hawks
