We need a BigFooty mob to get down there during the pre-season with a set of clippers and set his attitude straight!

He does have some very important tools which WCE have to focus on to get the best out of him, including his kicking and his pace. Maybe the confidence is already there, perhaps he just needs to be ironed out by an opposition player to show him what hard footy means.

I look forward to seeing him develop as he becomes more experienced and gains more confidence.

I think a lot of those being critical need to remember that Smith, Brennan, Carter, Wilson and Co. would probably not be getting a lot of games if Hurn and Waters were available. Smith has handled the Hurn role ok... not great but ok. He has a long kick, spoils well and has got a bit of pace. He sometimes lacks a bit of vision kicking out, but from where I sit it's often compounded by a lack of good options. So consistency and confidence comes with experience.

But he is just 23 years old. In my experience with young blokes (I have a couple of my own), something happens at around 24 and they flatten out emotionally which gives them a consistency in focus. A good example is Masten... a year or less ago I was ready to jump the fence and escort him off the paddock. Now we can wait for him to get back on it.

So it's hard to think Smith wont make 50 seeing he's on 41, but I predict that he will quiet quickly turn into a solid consistent player.

If you start looking around there are a couple of others out there to be more worried about... starting with Number 3!

i've been paying more attention to smith's performances since this thread came about and he seems to have gone backwards significantly this year (same goes for a few others.)

i find it hard to evaluate him as 'good' or 'bad' from game to game. usually he swings between solid and very ordinary efforts within the same game but overall i reckon his contributions impact somewhere between negatively and neutrally.

i'm sure the club would've given him the extended run just to evaluate his importance beyond this year.

signed for 2014 but if i was coaching a trade back to victoria is the only thing that would get him to 50 games.

I would have said yes at the start of the year, but Simpson certainly didn't have as much time for him as Woosha.

Isn't exactly lucky given the likes of McGinnity, Hill and Wilson? all still hanging onto our list for dear life.

McGinnity, Hill

Certainly been read the riot act, they simply must improve in 2015 or they are goneski, even though I think Ginners adds more to the team than Hill.
Hill is extremely lucky Tunners didn't come good this year because the chances of that renewal would have been slim at best.
At any rate I'm pretty excited that WC (from all accounts) are going to be looking for a dynamic forward/mid. Hill is going to have to do something pretty special to be at the club in 2016, lazy footballer.
