Will Brisbane Trade for Raines?

How quickly they forget. The 2001-2003 season highlights are basically just Notting highlights :p

Dont get me wrong. Back in the day Notting did some great things for us but that is now in the PAST.

I am talking about the PRESENT. Lets be honest with ourselves. He has been woeful more times than not this year. So many shanked kicks and stupid decisions. How people keep wanting him to be in the side beggars belief. He has only been playing this year out of necessity rather than forcing his way in...

He was a good servant to the club but like all things his time is up.

I don't dispute that those performances are in the past. Nor do I dispute that at some stage Poss will have to either retire or be cut. I did however take objection to you insinuating that he is an awful player at present. Further, I'm not sure you can say he hasn't earnt his spot in the side this season. People here can attest to the fact I'm at the ground watching the Reserves play every home game, so I feel quite confident in judging those performances worthy of Senior promotion when he was elevated. His averages are on par with other players getting a regular game - Stiller, Harding, Proud for example.. not our leading lights but useful to our structure in their own right.

I have certainly seen a lot of endeavour in his games this year and he has been particularly useful providing good run into space, filling gaps in defense, kicking a goal every second game.. even giving the ruck a shake when it was needed. As a utility, he's quite useful to the side. I didn't remind you of his past just for nostalgic value or to imply that he should be kept in the team simply because he played a few good games for us; I did it to remind you that he is a proven performer - unlike Raines who butchers the ball with the slightest of pressure.

Unfortunately you get the feeling that the Raines move is a done deal in the mind of the club, so only time will tell on that one. I just hope if he comes to the club, he doesn't spend most of his time on our other busy list - the injury list. You think opposition supporters were in for some laughs when we took TJ, wait until we take AR(GH).

You have your opinion and I have mine. The comment which I originally replied to was in regards to DISPOSAL. I acknowledge that he has busted his guts to run into space,etc,etc... It is just that this year more time than not he has shanked it. Sure he may be tearing it up at QAFL level but AFL level it is a different story...as we have seen with other players.

Lets leave it at that and move on shall we...

Dalziell "tore it up" once again on Sunday, but once again his disposal didn't hurt enough to make him as damaging as he potentially could have been.

Let's face it, the hardest bit is actually getting hands on the pill. The rest of it should be cash in time. Dalziell can get his hands on the ball no problems and in our team run is a commodity not in overabundance.

FWIW I wouldn't write this bloke off by any means. And I wouldn't be trading him unless a super offer came along. For god's sake, it's less than a season when people were nominating him as a prospective future champ.

They were talking about Notting.

Oops!!

Again, FWIW, I thought Notting tried hard on Sunday, so as to create some sort of leadership by example.

Unfortunately, it is pretty obvious that his best is well beyond him now, and his once reasonably unreliable disposal has further deteriorated.

around 7 pm tonight raines manager spoke with sen & said that raines , his manager and brisbane lions had agreed on a 3 year deal and that its know upto the 2 clubs to work out a suitable deal.

looks like even though bigfooty supporters dont rate him ( like the tiger supporters didnt rate mcmahon ) the brisbane coaches must.

i really dont think that raine was too bad and nearly won the riseing star award in his first year,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, then wallace infected him with his shit coaching.

if he does end up going to the lions, i think brisbane could possibly sort him out.

people on this board actually rate rodan, but personally i would rather have raines than rodan any day.

if the tigers do delist simmons, the charman=raines deal looks likely
if not possibly upgrade our 4th rounder to brisbanes 2nd round pick
which is roughly pick around 51 for pick 28-29 or whatever you guys have.

i really do think he could end up a good player for brisbane.

A straight swap, Raines for Charman would be bending us over a little IMO. Not because Charman is a superstar or anything, but ruckmen on the market are a lot more rare than HBFs.
Not much chop personally on trading, so I don't know how this trade could be made more equal, but Raines + a pick maybe would be more acceptable.

Just my 2c.

In terms of player quality, Charman for Raines is definitely a bargain for Richmond.

What would get that deal over the line is that Charman is on a pretty decent contract, and would be the most expensive third ruckman on an afl list.

If Richmond took that on, the Lions would look at it.

If he comes to us, I am content.

He will need to earn his spot, and if he does, we could well be a stronger team for it:thumbsu:

Maybe even the number 4 will be available as well:p

The last player we got from Richmond was Craig Lambert - and he went alright. If we do end up landing him, I wouldn't have high expectations........ but I wouldn't want to lose Charmo for him.

From memory, Lambert was the only player in our team of the century (97-06) who was in the squad who did not play in a premiership. So here's hoping he is as good :).

I think Vossy can do good things with Raines if he gets the chance!

PS: Figure out your neighbours password? :p

Wasn't Richard Champion in it too?

I don't have the team in front of my but I am pretty sure that Champs was the only non-premiership player in the Team of the Decade.

I don't think Lambert was there.

Ah ****, knew it was one of the two old codgers :p. Serves me right for not keeping my yearbooks in a findable place!

With so many yays-nays – I think I might start drawing up plans for an ‘environmentally safe’ bandwagon should the need arise.

Might as well just whack some wheels on the fence we're sitting on... :D
