Will Freo go winless in 2016

No he isn't. It's a shallow analysis from someone that doesn't understand the list management model. Plus all this talk about games we should have got into youth, people need to look at the available players and consider who should have played more games. Many of the players mentioned are rookies, or young players still finding their feet.
Good clubs find a way. Look at Sydney with heeney and mills.

My take on the MCarthy trade was that GWS knew exactly how determined he was to go home and that denying him would damage the relationship irreparably. That they also knew what Freo was offering was overs. But that from their point of view, wanting to play and win finals in 2016, then giving Freo a key forward when they finished top of the ladder but bombed finals due to having no firepower.. it was like "Why would we do that?"

And thats the reason I hate GWS with an incredible passion. Every club wants to win, very few in this day and age stoop to that level of ruining a young kids life for the sake of hurting another teams chances. Dog act.
That young kid was dumb enough to extend his contract, so he got what he deserved, no sympathy for McCarthy here, GWS didn't do anything wrong, I'd rather watch him rot on the sidelines, if gws let him go what precedent does that set for young players an signing contracts? Everyone will just leave when they feel like it

Yeah I'm pretty annoyed Lyon hasn't managed to get any games into our top 5 draft talent academy players yet.
Hes not top 5 but he wasnt far off it... weller struggled to get a game last year.

Absolutely criminal he wasnt played more!!!

How many games did simpson get in his first year? What about apeness? Crozier?

We won't go winless but our position is not that bad. We have players who are down on skill and conversion who have historically been much better. Last year we hardly got scored against on the turnover, this year is the opposite. You remove most of our 8 goals scored from turnovers and we could have won against the crows for example. Or kicked straight against GWS...

However i think our lack of round 1 picks have stifled our growth during our 'window years'....
Fremantle Round 1 picks:
2009: #4 A Morabito - we all know his story
2010: #20 J Pitt - Absolute great skill but forced to retire due to a heart condition :(
2011: #16 T Sheridan - One of our rare first rounders who is playing, although very questionable how good he is...
2012: #17 J Simpson - Took a punt on him...is a GUN...but kept missing training and flights to games as emergency. Still has a massive issue in the WAFL. He's carving it up for east freo sharks but they had to drop him for a few games because he missed trainings.
2013: #17 M Apeness. A TALL KPP!! Believe it or not we drafted one. However screwed his knee up in his first year and has only now just played his first game (60 mins) for WAFL reserves....hoping he can be something.
2014 - #13 L Weller. CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES! Finally no injuries, good player
2015 - # 27 D Tucker. Again, seems like a decent player, already played a few games which is a good sign.

So as you can see we've been unlucky with injuries/illlnesses and took a risk with a few players too who didn't work out. Leading us to where we are. You could says 'you should have taken this awesome player at pick 30' but drafts are always full of that. I believe our gameplan and future players (Bennell, Fyfe, Hill, Walters, A Pearce, Neale, Weller, Yarren) will be good enough to be in the top 8 by 2018 again.

Who would you have dropped though? Future premiership stars like Mzungu and De Boer? I will hear none of it!!

a small portion of their supporters who post on the main board just dont get it... much more of their supporters who post on the freo board get it. they understand the issues and agree with us

i mean seriously all they could find for weller was less than a half of football last year before the last game of the season when they rested everyone... utterly bizarre

I agree that Weller didn't get enough game time last year, but still think the comparison to Heeney/Mills is a bit silly. They were both far ahead of Weller from the get go. Remember that despite his skill, Weller was struggling to run out full AFL games period in his first year.

Why even mention Simpson and Apeness? Both earned debuts in their debut seasons after solid but unspectacular form in the WAFL. Both since have been unable to play since due to circumstances outside of anyone's control but their own.

Crozier was very inconsistent in his first year but got 3 games. Was given large chunks of game in his second and third years and was unable to do alot with them.

you're missing crozier, he also was a first round selection in 2010

I'd see it far fetched that Freo could go a whole season winless. I'd give them a chance at 6-8 wins overall

End of the day GWS missed out on a first round pick from last year and now probably a top 3 pick from this year for a player they don't even need. Freo offered massive overs for him. Now they can either trade him for a 3rd round pick at the end of the season or get nothing as he sits out 2017 as well.

The expansion club years were like an AFL equivalent of conscription, GWS/GCS scooped up young kids by the dozen. Their list has essentially 30 players who went/would of gone in the first round of the draft. Good for them. A couple will want to go home, who cares. What they get in a trade is usually overs paid by desperate clubs who've had limited access to quality picks, this gives GWS access to even more first round picks which is a pretty good deal.

They stuffed this one up, if someones prepared to walk away from the game rather than play for you there's no point bending him over. Realistically football is a game and family is more important. GWS have proved nothing other that they're selfish idiots who've forced a talented kid to choose his family over football and they'll now get next to nothing in return.

LOL....I love the inference that you are so obviously correct that people that disagree with your simplistic hate driven analysis are wrong and 'don't get it'.

Honestly you are a crack-up. :thumbsu:

I know right. The guy is surely taking the piss.

Hey, why doesn't Ross just get first access to players from NSW just like Sydney?

Hey, why doesn't Ross just get Buddy under COLA allowance like Sydney?

Hey, I know Ross is such a twit! Haw haw, why doesn't he just get Jeremy Cameron under pre-draft selections like GWS Stupid Ross.

Hey Ross, why don't you get 23 first round draft picks like GWS? WTF are you doing Ross?

Defloggo? You're a ****ing gormless nong

point missed... whats your response to papley?

I feel for you Defacto 12-18 months ago you told them all where they were heading from your experience with bossco and they all laughed at you. Now that you have been vindicated you're defloggo etc.. Funny bunch that purple lot

thanks mate. i pretty much shrug it off as i know they eventually come around... just takes them time, its funny though, most of the time they defend everything on the main board but share the same opinion as me on their board, so i think there's a lot of playing the man rather than the ball going on. i dont get why they're so worked up about it though... what's the benefit in trying to deny everything? why not call it for what it is?

the writing was on the wall 2 years back, with what is happening now

tom papely has played 7 games in his debut season after being picked in the rookie draft. in a side thats pushing hard for a flag. when was the last time freo gave that many games to a first year player? let alone consecutive games?

as i said in april/may last year, they needed to pump games into the kids so that their veterans didnt fatigue in the 2nd half of the season. they also needed to find more avenues to score... but hey tunnel vision right.

I don't think you'll find many dockers fans argue with this point though (edit there is some above but I think they are referring to holistic young changes, I am referring to players such as Weller and Langdon last year), if they do then they are mistaken. I completely agree with you, we should have looked ahead and planned for the future, trying for a premiership isn't an excuse to not breed and play competitive youngsters IMO. Hawthorn have done it, as too have Geelong and Sydney.
