Will the G-Train stop at Richmond? Tigers in hunt for star Saint
RICHMOND is ramping up its interest in St Kilda fan favourite and former AFLW leading goalkicker Caitlin Greiser, as the Tigers target key forward depth ahead of the March 10 sign and trade period.
But it's understood Richmond is also bracing to lose Maddy Brancatisano to Gold Coast over the next month, despite its efforts to retain the midfielder at Punt Road on an extended contract.

Caitlin Greiser celebrates a goal during the R9 clash between St Kilda and Geelong a RSEA Park on March 5, 2022.
Greiser, who is affectionately nicknamed 'G-Train' at the Saints after former men's club great Fraser Gehrig, booted 10 goals from six games in her maiden AFLW campaign back in 2020 to claim the League's leading goalkicker award.
It added to her tally of 29 goals from 34 career games in the competition, which has sparked Richmond's interest in the talented 24-year-old as the club seeks to improve upon last season's top-four finish.
Greiser is still contracted at St Kilda ahead of this year's 2023 season, with the Saints intent on either retaining her at RSEA Park or securing suitable compensation to agree to her departure.
As the Tigers are not one of last year's four new expansion clubs, which have received AFLW concessions in the upcoming priority signing period (PSP), they will have to negotiate a trade with the Saints to complete a deal for Greiser.
Richmond, though, is expected to lose Brancatisano with the promising 22-year-old midfielder hoping to move to Gold Coast next month.
The Tigers had been aiming to retain the player, and offered her a new contract, but it was rejected.

Maddy Brancatisano warms up ahead of the R10 clash between Richmond and North Melbourne at Arden Street Oval on October 30, 2022.
Greiser's expected defection to Richmond is set to kickstart a busy month of sign and trade period action for St Kilda, who is closing on a deal for Brisbane spearhead and last season's leading AFLW goalkicker Jesse Wardlaw.
St Kilda is also chasing Serene Watson from Gold Coast, but as previously revealed by womens.afl the club is expected to lose star midfielder Tarni White to Collingwood and Clara Fitzpatrick to the Suns.
Leah Cutting has also attracted interest from Adelaide and is poised to move to South Australia for work-related reasons, while the club's leading goalkicker last season in Kate Shierlaw is tipped to head to North Melbourne.

Kate Shierlaw celebrates a goal during the R9 clash between St Kilda and Port Adelaide at RSEA Park on October 23, 2022.
Elsewhere, Port Adelaide is hoping to complete a move for the League's 2022 leading goalkicker in Ash Woodland from crosstown rivals Adelaide as one of its three potential PSP recruits.
Fellow Adelaide key-position player Montana McKinnon also has interest from Port Adelaide, Essendon and Greater Western Sydney, but the Crows are tipped to land ruck Jess Allan from the Giants.

Well she gets half as many touches and takes half as many marks as Sabrina Frederick, who got a bit rougher assessment than not bad. Definitely a more accurate shot for goal though.

Pretty happy about this. I reckon she’s a player, like TW mentioned really good converter
29.15 and can score from 45-50
out.
Sometimes played her as a high Hf and rolled her thru stoppages, maybe trying to get her into the game..?
Can play in the air too.
She’d definitely take the oppos best one on one def, 100% think she’d get more shots at goal with KB and Reid looking for her than what she got with the Saints and Dal Santo.
First three steps are actually pretty quick.

for me it's a 👎
gives me Sabrina Fredericks, Sarah Perkins vibe about her.

other than her 1st year she's been ordinary, which is a worry.
the game is getting quicker, gone past this type of player.
happy to be proven wrong tho.

Should have targeted the Brisbane girl if she’s leaving.
StKilda are offering a heap of money, much more than we could offer ATM
sadly going to the Saints by all reports, but yeah she would be a great fit in our side.

Actually moves ok for her size , more agile than Fred and Perkins’s , could still benefit from stripping fitter reckon that’d happen as our squad has in last 2y, def worth a shot , key forwards are rare in W

i've only see her play in the early 2022 season versus us in the 1st game
wasn't impressed, but i'm happy to be proven wrong
yeah you're right, goal kicking key fwd's are hard to find.

Reckon we d back to get her elite fit and lift her game looks to have ability , certainly enough to give a shot

yeah 2020 was her best season

Fair bio, though 21/22 years (3 seasons) nothing but Leading Goalkicker with 9 from 9. Looks to have enough footy smarts, the Saints would miss her. As Bo has suggested if her commitment was there to keep improving physically (took 45sec of her 2km PB last pre season), she could be a sneaky gain on modest coin to begin with perhaps. Depends who we lose.......

if it’s Contained to branc and jaques as reported I’d be pretty happy ,,,most stories in paper re W are almost entirely correct which is quite novel

Yep, that would be a good outcome, can understand the new teams chasing some depth, there were a bit more than depth for us once too, but now just depth really, maybe Brancat more fringe 20 than depth.
