Quite possibly, the softest senior player in the AFL.

Is clearly at the crossroads, you think with an imposing build, he would be making a mark on the AFL but he has regressed to an alarming level.

Apart from his size, does he have anything else that is of an AFL standard?

id love to see what he would be like playing in a team like port

I think he can come good, might not but some KPPs just do not get their shit together until they are around 24-26.

Not a bad player. Would play in most teams. Maybe he should be better given he plays for Geelong, but hes not bad enough that no one would play him.

i think the lad might be a bit slow or at least lacking in good reflexes. he just doesn't process what is going on in front of him and misses the chances for second efforts.

I Just can't see him getting to many more chances. Barring maybe four passages of play he was woeful. He will have to turn it around very quickly to maintain a position on a list in 2 years time.

his last 6 weeks have actually been really good. Today he was poor, but so was Steve Johnson, chappy etc... People need to stop making knee jerk reaction comments. Its embarrassing for them...

Not running around at under 18 level using his superior size against kids anymore. Slow, no standout qualities. VFL standard. Amazing he's struggled over the years at Geelong with the midfield delivery it to him. Imagine if he had to do the hard yards at an average club with an average midfield. Would already be delisted.

He's a frustrating player. Could be anything, may well end up being nothing.

They used to say the same thing about Travis Cloke though.

Would probably be a better player if he was dealing with an average midfield, has never had to work hard in the Cats forward line and it shows when the going gets tough.

More of a Lauchie Hansen type player i would say, same age, similar expectations. Promised everything but neither have really come close to delivering thus far.

Interesting that none of the very highly rated talls from that draft have really come on. Thorp, Gumbleton, Hansen, Hawkins. It's the talls a little lateron that were perceived to have more flaws that have actually been better.

Odd thread timing though Hawkins has been playing well lately and kicking goals. He was no good today had a few mates in the same boat.

Every time he gets some form going he seems to cop a leg injury though so have to question if he is a bit too big and slow for the modern game. Will still be at Geelong in 2 years time we lose mooney and maybe ottens this year, pods won't play much longer either. But that hasn't helped his development because he gets games without earning them. Probably would have developed better at another club TBH

Hawkins is in his 5th year now, so he's getting towards that stage where he should be entering his prime as a footballer (ages 24-29). If he doesn't make some significant strides in 2012, he'd surely be in trouble at Geelong, especially if guys like Nathan Vardy and Mitchell Brown really start establishing themselves.

I can see some similarities between Hawkins and a young Leigh Brown to be honest. Both top 10 draft picks with big bodies, but just don't impose themselves physically or have as much impact on the contest as you'd expect.

I'd like to see Hawkins play CHF. He's clearly stalling playing as a forward pocket so let's get the big lump out to CHF and make him get on his bike. You say he might not be suited to it but Cloke doesn't look like an endurance freak but has just been built up over years through his work rate at CHF. Obviously a bit late this year but next year he shouldn't just continue as is. Massive waste.

Some time in the back half would be the other idea.
