You can't catch gay from a t shirt.
Well no duh!

most kids dont even know what the adult symbollism for rainbows are.

kids cant just wear the shirts they want to wear? We now must dress them up in political symbols regardless of their own wants? What purpose is this serving and why dont kids get a choice in the matter?

i would never dress my kids up in symbols that reflect my political preferences. Kids arent an advertisement for their parents politics.

That you (and the guy in the video) think thats what's happening with those shirts is a genuine worry.

They're just shirts with rainbow designs on them dude. They probably represent about 0.3% of the total number of boys shirts available in the store. Go one aisle over and you'll see another set of shirts with minions on them, or dinosaurs, or whatever :drunk:

lol

I have a 6 year old boy, I assure you he likes rainbows :tearsofjoy:

ALL dA sHiRrTS!!!!1
TeH oNlY OpTiON!!1

Or just the 4 he picked up on that specific shelf?

Come on Seeds, you're smarter than this surely.
Theres definately not a market for a third of the shirts being rainbows in boys clothing. Theres not even a market for third of girls clothing having rainbows. Kids want choice. Like adults. If it was right wing symbols im sure your response would be different.

the fact we are using political symbols in childrens clothing at all is very weird. I would be horrified if i encountered one childrens shirt with a dinosaur and the words "no jab" or "make america great again" on it.

You do have to wonder why all the shirts have rainbows though?

even if boys liked rainbows (they dont) why is that the only option they are given?

it may be a small thing but its still very very weird.
Rainbows are colorful. Young kids like color

Can you give me examples of right wing symbols that could be used? (obvious swastikas would be a no go) I honestly can't think of one
There probably are rules against guns/ depictions of violence (that didn't exist back when I was a child)

🤢 🤮

The first shirt that appears in the search is political, it’s a “Top Gun” shirt (literally US military recruiting propaganda)

One shirt on the first page I can see that has a rainbow. The rest rainbow free.

Is there a market out there? Yes, 20% of Gen Z identify as LGBTQ+ and even more of than generation will be tolerant and accepting of their LGBTQ+ peers than any generation before them.

There is definately a phase for rainbows In young kids clothing. Both boys and girls. But for the majority of boys It tends to come before the dinosaur and monster truck phase. not at the same time. Those putting it on the same shirts as dinosaurs and monster trucks are doing it for political reasons. Just as right wingers are no doubt creating shirts with fairies holding automatic rifles. Its creepy to use kids this way.

anyway i wont comment on this again. It is a minor thing. Just think kids clothing should be about the kids and not the parents political views. Regardless of what those views are.

I've got nieces around kindy/primary school age, just wondering when the Che Guevara phase kicks in? Want to get them some shirts.

Is this the same country where those children are forced to pledge allegiance to that nation’s flag every day?

You should really just stay away from children

You've clearly got some unresolved person issues.

OK, so I assume you do now accept that some boys like rainbows lol. Strike 1.

Ummm.. 0.3% is not a third, mate. Its less than 1/100th.

There is a choice, its a big store. The guy was standing in front of 1 shelf. As I said, go to another shelf in the store and you'll see a whole set of other tshirts with dinosaurs or whatever on them.

Your take is absolutely bizarre :drunk:

So rainbows can never be seen ever again in any context whatsoever without being associated with LGBT? Nah not sure that tracks. See the Dark Side of the Moon anniversary hoohaa a few weeks back for a particularly hilarious demonstration of this.

The shirts in question don't have slogans of support for LGBT on them, you're torpedoing your own argument.

How about a child who wears a crucifix around their neck? In compariason, the rainbow is an apolitical symbol.

Yeah there are too many. Gen Z is kind of taking the piss.

child likes bright colours

child wears bright colours

adult loses mind

Lucky then that no such thing is happening in this example. There are about 4 kids shirts that happen to have rainbows on them that are in no way political, out of probably 500 in the store.

You're in orbit.

Yeah there are too many. Gen Z is kind of taking the piss.

Gen Z is also the first generation growing up where they’ve been told that being other than straight/cisgender is as normal as being straight and cisgender. I’m of the previous generation (millennial) and I can tell you with first hand knowledge that coming out would be followed by bullying and abuse. It’s actually quite remarkable how much more accepting Gen Z are of non traditional identities compared to the previous one.

So what you’re seeing is the natural rate of LGBTQ identities in a generation which doesn’t feel the need to suppress their feelings due to fear of embarrassment and discrimination. I think if any previous generation would’ve grown up with a similar level of acceptance then their LGBTQ rate would be 20% as well.

I am actually bisexual, and can tell you the 20% is much too high.

I’m probably a simple person, I see a rainbow as just a rainbow, the political symbol for me is the rainbow flag 🏳️‍🌈

Are you of Gen Z? In an environment where you and others are are to openly express your identity?

I believe there’s a lot of suppression of true sexuality in older generations, I think the rates of LGBTQ identity should be higher than people are willing to state publicly:
